As an exotic dancer at The Great Alaskan Bush Company in Anchorage, Mechele Hughes Linehan knew how to captivate men. Three of them were convinced she was engaged to them. Then one spring morning in 1996, one man, Kent Leppink, was found in the snow, shot in the head… Days before his death, Kent had removed Mechele's name from his million-dollar life insurance policy. He wrote a letter to his family stating that, should he meet foul play, Mechele would likely be among those involved. But she wasn't charged with Kent's death. She married a doctor, moved to Olympia, Washington, and began a new life. For years, Mechele's suburban friends never suspected a thing. She went to school meetings, hosted backyard barbeques, and was beloved by her neighbors. But authorities eventually found enough evidence to mount a case against her and an alleged accomplice. Did Mechele conspire to kill her ex-fiancé? Or is she the innocent victim as she claims? Seduced by Evil is the shocking true story about a love triangle that ended in mystery―and murder…
Last month I bought some real books (meaning not ebooks ;-)) for my dad for father's day at amazon UK so I decided to get myself some books.
This one was one of it.
So far I am very much enjoying this read. Now stupid me while i was adding this book I accidentally read that the ending is not satisfying which means to me that horrible girl (woman) will not be punished.
Hope that is not the case but I will keep on reading.
On page 63 now July 2. ----------------------------------------------- Okay finished this morning. (July 4th) I did enjoy this book and I think that has a lot to do with the author. He really made it interesting and kept me on my toes. Finally an author who does not tell you everything on page 3.
I still have a book of him on my TBR shelf. Will try soon.
Nothing crazy here, although it made me think about how I would fare if emails from me twenty years ago were put on trial (I hope good?). I felt the story could have been better organized as it was tough to get into (probably easier around the time this was more relevent) but once it jumped 10 years I thought it got better. Ends on a cliffhanger, which the internet was able to provide...I think an updated afterward would've been nice to provide an update aft er it all settled.
Meh. Not as salicious as I thought it would be, and mostly just a story about sad people doing sad things for money. It really seems like she got out of it and then many years later ended up paying the price for a mis-spent youth (that happened to include a murder.) Fine I guess, but like most true crime, a little repetitive and in the weeds for my taste.
This was definitely one of the books that you could get into and never imagine that its ending would be so unsatisfying. Basically the story is the one where you already know how it is going to turn out due to the facts of the case and the lack of any conviction from an early point but still you hope that there would be a conclusion, a good ending to something that is so vague.
The book had a fair amount of missing words and misspellings throughout but it didn't stop the reading for the most part. There were some points that you had to go back to re-read it to get the point but otherwise it was do-able.
The best part about this book was the fact that the author did such a great job in trying to show the "characters" as they had been throughout the whole "dance". It had me wondering if I had even been bad or low enough to stoop such as Mechele had done or wonder how a guy like John Carlin III could be seemingly so low-key yet wrenched along. And what may have really happened at the end of that forsaken frozen road in Alaska.... too far from civilization on one cold night.
I would give this three stars, but it was not copy-edited. I have never read a book with so many typos, superfluous words, missing words, errors. Interesting story, though. Pictures would have been a nice addition.
I think that some people need two worlds to live. One to be his or her own self, the other to be his or her ideal self. Maybe all of us actually want to live like this, but only a handful of people dare to do it. Regardless, living this way will surely hurt a lot of people.
Crazy! I needed a quick read and this true crime was one of those for sure. It was quite a detailed account and was very interesting to see how it ended.
