I’m Elisavet Arkolaki, it’s great connecting with you!
I’m a multilingual mom raising two beautiful, multilingual, and ethnically mixed children, and I’m a children’s book author, mainly writing and publishing bilingual books. I have lived in six countries and my home right now is in Norway.
Both my husband and I are passionate about traveling; inspired by global learning, we’re raising our own children in between countries, cultures, and languages. I write to build cultural understanding and sensitivity in young children while they are still eager to learn, and also help and support them in their bilingual journey. The bilingual books I've published are ideal for early readers: white background, large and easy-to-read fonts, the image on one page and the text on the other, etc. They're available in 50+ languages with progressively longer stories from one book to the other.
I have an academic background in foreign language teaching, translation, and marketing. I graduated from the University of Liverpool with a degree in Global Marketing (MSc), the University of Athens (EKΠΑ) with a degree in French Philology/Language and Literature (BA), and I was awarded a certificate of proficiency in English from the University of Cambridge. I speak four languages now at different levels of fluency.
I’m proud to volunteer as a PEaCH Ambassador. PEaCH is an Erasmus+ (EU) funded project that supports European families raising bilingual and multilingual children. PEaCH does this in the form of a handbook for parents, a handbook for educators, informative videos and an online collection of ready-to-use materials in the 24 official EU languages. This book, inspired by the writer's own childhood and her sister's watercolors really spoke to me. "Happiness Street" is a story told in words and pictures that celebrates the simple things in life that give us joy - nature, animals, and art. Although this story is the author's own story, I'm sure that children will relate to it, and their own walks in nature.
Nostaligic in atmosphere, this book is a tranquil read that will soothe children. They will learn about the seasons, about art, and may be encouraged to create something of their very own.
The language in the book will challenge children in places. For example, the use of "would" to express habit or routine in the past, and the future tense to express what the artist in the book is doing. The book will introduce kids to new vocabulary. I recommend guided reading for younger children. Perhaps the author could create a Glossary.
The art in the book is truly lovely. It moved my emotions. Children will learn to associate different colors with different moods and emotions and the changing landscape through the year with each season. The book reassures children that while things may change, some things will always remain in the memories that we make.

Charming
This is a trip down memory lane mixed with a bit of color theory. Pleasant and easy on the eyes and heart. I am going to use it with my students in French class. Another sweet story that focuses on colors. Its goal is likely to help bilingual children become familiar with the names of colors in both languages, achieved through a children's story who draws pictures.
At the end, the author encourages the child to create their own drawings, allowing them to solidify the color names through play.

You can feel the warmth of the summer holidays through the tender writing and wonderful pictures! It communicates beautiful feelings and encourages imagination. This book is a big hug of joy and hope!

I really liked the artwork in here and thought it was really pretty. I did read the bilingual one with Korean and found that I sometimes struggled to follow till I read it in English.

What a lovely and colorful children’s book! It is just the prescription for these complicated and gray times.
Elizavet Arkolaki sets the scene for children who are lucky enough to read (or have someone read to them) this guide to “Happiness Street.” She invites the reader to sit on the imaginary veranda – a veranda which might be all too real to many of us, one which might even be a kitchen table in our recollections. Her veranda is more real to me because I lived in her Greece for a while and visited many beautiful places like she describes.
After encouraging the readers or a responsible adult to take out watercolors, she guides them frame by frame through that magical land of our imagination to describe the place she held dear as a child, her grandma’s place by the sea.
Some of our grandmas did not have a place by the sea where we went to spend our summers. But suddenly they do. You can picture the waves, and the rocks, and the little chapel and grandma’s cat. The author gently suggests the colors she would use to make the pictures come together. The pictures come alive along with the memories. There are many such places all over the world. Some of these are merely open fireplugs in an urban setting. It’s OK, as long as it’s grandma’s place.
The best part is the promise the child hears when the mom picks them up. They will come back next year. This deep sense of normalcy adds great value to a child’s peace of mind. Bravo, Elizavet!

Elisavet Arkolaki's book is a tribute, to a summer spent by the seaside with her Grandma. It is a cute story which will strike a chord with anyone who’s ever counted down the days until summer arrives. Charikleia Arkolaki's watercolor, nostalgia-soaked illustrations fit perfectly with the story. The illustrations are exactly for preschoolers.
The bilingual concept of Elisavet Arkolaki’s books is refreshing. I wish I had books like this for my grandchildren in our language.
The concept is nice. The vocabulary is the problem. Children’s book must have a restricted vocabulary that is specific for the age group. This isn’t a book for preschool children. I am sure it could be rewritten to have one version for preschoolers and one for older children. Otherwise a good book worthwhile to buy and read to your children and/or grandchildren.

This is a charming picture book inundated with colors and memories. Memories of Greece and the colorful Greek summer. Whether you were brought up in Greece or spent some time there as a tourist, these watercolors hit a sentimental chord. Harikleia Arkolaki moves us with her nostalgic watercolors and Elisavet Arkolaki takes us by the hand with her eloquent writing. The French and English text is perfect! The author demonstrates that she commands both languages equally well. This book is the ideal read for bilingual kids or for those learning Greek or French as a second language. It goes beyond teaching vocabulary and encouraging kids to be creative through art. Page by page, it unfolds the magic of Greek summer, which, personally, will stay with me forever…

This is a wonderful children's book to use in a bilingual or ESL classroom. I taught reading to Spanish speakers for years in Texas. A book like this can support children whose first language is either of these languages as they try to master the other one. Granted, this is Portuguese, not Spanish, but I had two Brazilian students over the years that could've benefitted from this very book. It's colorful watercolor paintings and dual texts do a great job of building reading vocabulary, especially, in this case, the names of colors. And it is brief enough not to discourage children who need to puzzle things out one word at a time. I definitely recommend this book.

A beautifully illustrated and poignant story!
The story brings a refreshing gust of air in these sad times. The author takes us back in time with a heartfelt description of her childhood summers spent with her grandmother. The illustrations are wonderfully done! I love the unusual way in which the author weaves in a description of the colors used in the illustrations. As well as providing a lovely and well-written story, the book is a great teaching tool for children, and shows how color can also affect our mood.

Light Hearted Well Illustrated Sentimental Read for Learning English and French
The Gist of It: "Happiness Street" is a very light-hearted, almost melancholic children's novel with elegant prose that's easy to read for children and adults alike. The French text is at a level which a child can pick up quickly even if they're learning, with the English just equal. The watercolor illustrations are colorful and compliment the tone. Overall, I found this to be a delightful, sentimental read.

A warm, lyrical and artistic story of childhood
A calming, nostalgic meditation on summers past, art and the beauty of nature and childhood. I imagined the peaceful sounds of the surf as I read. This makes both a great bedtime book and an excellent bit of creative inspiration for little ones. It encourage them to see the world around then and to paint and experiment with their art. Lovely.

Wow. I've never seen or read a book like this. So much creativity in the style. It's a childhood memory essentially described in colors... Make it into a bilingual book and it's even better.
I think kids, especially the older ones, may now be more aware of the colors surrounding them in this world as well as the "happy" moments in their lives and cherish them even more.

A must read!
I really like the originality of the story and how the author inspires children and their families to have fun during the summer. I felt like I have know the author for a long period of time because of how she described her childhood memories. This book will encourage you to spend quality time with your loved ones. The illustrations are one of a kind and made this book even more special. I highly recommend to check this book out!

I bought this book from amazon.ca as bilingual editions in both Korean and Russian. As a teacher of multilingual/ multicultural students I was pleasantly surprised by the rich vocabulary (veranda, sparse, imprinted, intense, suitable, stroll, composition). I also loved the watercolour art references and illustrations because I think they will make this book appealing to classroom teachers. I will be on the lookout for other bilingual editions!

Beautifully written and illustrated!!
An amazing work from the Arkolaki sisters! Sparks the imagination of the children but also brings sweet summer memories to the adults. A relaxing read and a great opportunity to talk to our children about our font childhood memories! An nice reminder and inspiration to always try to make happy memories with our children also...

Simply enjoyable
I think we all have a Happiness Street. That place you looked forward to as a child. This brought back nice memories. I liked that it was bilingual. Helps children to see that a different culture may not be so different after all. Can also help to learn a bit of a different language. Recommended.
