When Eric Layton lunges for his ringing cell phone in the middle of the night, he’s halfway to the door before he realizes it’s not his chief summoning him to an out-of-control fire. It’s an out-of-control woman who’s too tipsy to figure out she’s dialed the wrong number. But the line goes dead before he can explain he’s not her brother.
His conscience won’t let him leave the woman to wait for a ride that’s never going to come. Yet nothing prepares him for the chemistry when he helps Joanne into his truck. She’s curvy, blonde, and vulnerable—a three-alarm warning to do the right thing and keep her at arm’s length.
Still keeping watch over her through the night sounds reasonable. Until she awakens, and desire burns reason to a crisp…

Olivia Brynn is the very saucy alter ego of romance author Alanna Coca. Olivia was the one who lured Alanna into trouble as a child. She also would have been the one to get her mouth washed out with soap. Since controlling Olivia wasn't as easy as she thought, Alanna decided to set her alter ego free with Olivia's first book, For a Price, a story about one woman's journey to sell her virginity. Other books followed, earning five-star reviews and bestselling status. Alanna realized what fun Olivia had writing sexy romances without censor.
Olivia writes contemporary erotic romance near a window where the view of the Rocky Mountains beckons her to run naked through the tall foothill grasses. Except when it snows.
I tend to compare quick, hot novellas against Laura Kaye’s Hearts in Darkness as my benchmark of excellence, and it’s rare that any match up to that Gold Standard. Happily, Last Call is right up there at the top of the heap.
A simple premise. Off duty firefighter Eric awakes to a ringing phone, so far, so normal. But instead of his crew chief it’s a drunken woman who thinks he’s her brother, Kevin.
Oh Jesus. A drunk. He didn’t recognise the woman’s voice, so his first impulse was to snap his phone shut. On the other hand, if it turned out to be someone he knew, he’d feel like shit for hanging up.
Not only that, but she’s asking her brother to give her a ride home and since her phone battery is about to give out, she won’t be able to make another call.
This Joanne would be at the Ranger bar, sitting in her car waiting for her brother Kevin who would never come. He stared at his phone until the keyboard dimmed.
He’s a nice guy. I mean, he’s a firefighter. Rescuing and helping strangers is all part of his basic code of conduct and so he sets off to pick her up. He tells her that Kevin sent him and she goes with him happily when he drives her home. He’s taken aback to find how beautiful and bubbly she is, and even though she’s crazy drunk, she makes him laugh and he finds himself attracted to her. It seems the feeling is mutual for she comes on to him as he drives.
The bug started to blur, so he blinked until it came back into focus. Like a naughty child, his cock disobeyed direct orders and continued to grow stiff.
No matter how gorgeous she is, he tells himself firmly that he won’t respond. He won’t take advantage of her while she’s drunk.
It took superhuman strength, and he figured he’d be canonized, but he was able to move her hand off his lap, settle it onto hers and pin it there.
Just when they get to her apartment and he’s figured his responsibility is done, she explains why she felt the need to get hammered tonight.
“Kevin told me I’d feel better if I went out for a few drunks… drinks with some friends. They were all busy, though, so I went by my” – she sniffed – “by myself.” No tears. Please. Eric could fight a mean fire. He could drag a three-hundred-pound man down four flights of stairs, but he was weak as fuck when it came to a woman’s tears.
He takes her up to her apartment. He cleans up her puke, fetches her some water and makes her go to bed. Alone.
Against his better judgement and every damn warning blaring through his brain, Eric crossed the room and sat beside her. “It won’t look so bad tomorrow, I promise.”
This was so plausible. Eric is a caring guy and walking away from her as she breaks her heart was unthinkable, but falling asleep on the bed beside her, was not how he imagined the night ending.
She’s delighted to find him still there when she wakes up, and yes, they get it on. Several times. It’s plenty hot, but touching too, not just the sex romp it could have turned into. This story has depth. And pain. After several hours of loving, when Eric is about to ask her out on a date, her brother turns up. That spells BAD NEWS for Eric, since Joanne thinks they’re friends and he hasn’t gotten round to explaining yet. And Kevin is understandably furious.
“He still took advantage of your drunken condition. If you don’t call the cops, I will.”
Joanne is devastated. She trusted him!
She pushed Eric Layton out of her mind. If that really was his name. The guy probably was named Joe, and he probably didn’t work as a firefighter. He probably couldn’t hold a job. Maybe stealing from drunk women after screwing them paid better than she thought. She ground her teeth together. It was a damn good thing he didn’t get anything out of her. Other than a few orgasms.
This is the second Olivia Brynn book I’ve read, and I will certainly be looking for more. This merited a happy 5 out of 5.
Fireman Eric Layton receives a late night phone call from a drunk woman. She thinks it's her brother and asks him to pick her up from a bar. Before he can clear up the mistake, her phone dies. Unwilling to leave the stranger to fend for herself, he decides to be a good Samaritan and pick her up. What harm can there be in helping a citizen in need?
Joanne just got dumped and fired by her boyfriend and lost her apartment. No wonder she felt the need to get good and drunk. She didn't count on drunk-dialing a stranger, only to end up in bed with him.
This was a delightful novella. It had humor, passion, a misunderstanding, a smoking hot hero who was also a great guy and a heroine in need of a little assistance. Eric, or "Joe" as she liked to call him, tried to be a gentleman, but she was a little whirlwind that he couldn't withstand. Besides, her emotional pleas practically demanded that he help her overcome the blow to her self-esteem. I daresay he did an excellent job. I thought she was very naive to trust take his word at face value and give herself over like she did, but perhaps she just had a really good gut instinct. I wondered how they would work through their misunderstanding once the bubble burst, but it ended much like the story began, and I thought it was perfect for them. I would have enjoyed a longer story because of the great characters, but as it is, it left me feeling happy and satisfied. This was my first Olivia Brynn story, but after this, it won't be my last.
Short story/novella about a fireman who receives a phone call in the middle of the night from a drunken woman. Joanne was trying to reach her brother Kevin to ask him to go pick her up at a bar because she is too wasted to drive. She dials the wrong number, reaches Eric, and he ends up going to get her. They end up having a one-night stand when Joanne is not so drunk. Fun and short, very steamy.
Last Call is a super fast, smoking hot read by Olivia Brynn. This was the first sample of Olivia’s writing for me and I must say, I am hooked. I can’t wait to get my hands on something else! Last Call was so much fun! I want to read it all over again right now and I just put it down. Speaking of putting it down, I couldn’t…not for a second. I was hooked from the opening scene to the last word. My one gripe? That it wasn’t longer. I felt like Olivia could have turned this into a full length novel easily. I’m not sure how she managed to make me fall in love with the characters in such a short time…its a mystery as I don’t normally do that, but she did.
I guess I love a hot fireman…ok, I admit, I love most hot guys, but put one in a uniform and you’ve definitely turned my head effectively. Eric is all steel muscles banded over a Playgirl centerfold body. He is a totally caring guy who didn’t have to go out in the middle of the night to pick up a girl who thought she dialed her brother. The fact that he did had me sighing out loud.I fell for him instantly.
Joanne has had a horrible day. She is feeling like a failure. No job, no boyfriend and several blows to her ego, the day certainly could have gone better. She never expected to end the day drunk and in the arms of the most gorgeous fireman she’s ever laid eyes on. Even if he does keep telling her no….at first. Yes, well, better late than never to have an upswing in the day right? I loved her character. Let’s be honest here..who hasn’t dreamed of this scenario? Most of us ladies have. However in real life you usually wake up next to some guy that has his hands down the front of his boxer shorts and you SWEAR he was better looking the night before…you know….when you were seeing two of him. *SIGH* That’s why we have authors like Olivia Brynn. To take what would usually be a horrifying experience and make it into a fairy tale dream come true.
This is most definitely an erotic romance short story..so not for the faint of heart :) But for those of us who like it hot enough to make you squirm in your seat..Last Call is a must read!
On a night out drowning her sorrows, Joanne goes just a bit too far and needs a ride home. When she dials who she thinks is her brother she gets the shock of a lifetime when Eric Layton comes to her rescue. Already dumped, fired and evicted, being picked up by this gorgeous stranger could just be the silver lining of her day. When the light of day comes, can these two make a go of it or had the rose-colored alcohol goggles made things seem hotter than they really were?
Getting called in the middle of the night is something that Eric is used to since he joined the fire house. But this is a phone call that he won’t soon forget. From the first breathy sigh and pleads for a ride home, Eric is hooked. He has to at least help this faceless woman get home. But after meeting Joanne and seeing just what a great person she is, it is taking everything that Eric has to keep his hands to himself. When the night becomes longer than Eric’s restraint, will Joanne regret everything that they share or will this be the best misdial that Eric ever had?
While this story was quite short, it was a good story that got the point across and made me want to get to know these characters better as each page turned. After a night of passion the world gets in the way of these two, but the time apart turns out to be the best thing for both of them.
Olivia Brynn is a new to me author and I was pleasantly surprised by this book that was packed full of heat and fun. I think if the story would have included a bit more about each of the characters I would have enjoyed the book even more. If you are looking for a quick read that is well thought out and fun, then this is the book for you.
In Last Call, Joanne suffers a day straight out of hell when her boyfriend/boss both dumps and fires her all in one swift shot. On the advice of her older brother, she drowns her pain in liquor and ends up in bed with a very sexy, very sweet guy named Eric all because of drunk dialing. Nothing happens at first. Until she wakes up more sober than expected and urgently needs to feel like a woman.
I’ve enjoyed Olivia Brynn’s work in the past and the feeling certainly hasn’t stopped here. The heat between Joanne and Eric simmers with wicked deliciousness and, let’s face it, no one can resist a modern day hero. The sexiness balances quite well with the sheer hilarity of Joanne’s drunken state as laugh out loud funny sails into toe curling passion with expert ease. Personally would have liked a little more get-to-know-you time but being the short story that it is, I didn’t put too much weight against the swift progression of their relationship. I would recommend this quick read for anyone looking for a little fun that’s a whole lot of hot around the edges.
For being so short, I really enjoyed it. The hero was exactly that, when he rescues her from...her herself! LOL After getting dumped by her cheating boyfriend/boss, it hasn't been her day! Calling her brother for advice he sagely shares his wisdom, and suggests she go out and wasted! Heeding his advice, she does just that. At the end of the night, in an attempt to call her brother to come pick her up from the bar for a ride home she mis-dials, and instead reaches a stranger aka our hero Eric. While he is annoyed by the interruption from his sleep, he can't help but find her drunken ramblings rather amusing. When it dawns on him that she is drunk, alone, in the parking lot of the bar, with just a few stragglers left hanging after call, his firefighter sense of honor kicks in and he goes to pick up to make sure she's safe. What ensues is some hilarity, hot sex, and a cute ending for a quick story. I enjoyed it as something fun, hot, and quick to read on the beach. Cheers!
This is the first time I have read anything by Olivia Brynn, and it will NOT be the last. I loved her writing style and her ability to not only tell, but show a story.
This book has it all. It’s crammed with hilarious drunken dialog, a sexy but incredibly sweet and caring firefighter, over protective brother, and scorching sex scenes.
I am still amazed that I came to fall in love with these two characters in such a short amount of time, but I did. The chemistry and the humor shared between Eric and Joanne was superb.
Again...the story is short....go into it believing in happy-ever-afters. You won't be disappointed!
Firefighter Eric Layton receives a phone call in the middle of the night from an extremely drunk young woman who believes she is her brother. Always one to protect, Eric picks her up from the bar and drives her home wanting to drop her off only. Of course the beautiful Joanne has other plans, believing he is a friend of her brother and plans to seduce him that is if she can make it into bed.
Fun quickie, I thought Joanne was very humorous she rambles and manages to embarrass herself completely but Eric, ever the gentleman doesn't take advantage of the vulnerable Joanne waiting until she is completely sober to see if there is something there. Would have liked it to be longer, but overall entertaining.
The idea was really good. The way it was executed was really good. But it felt short. This might be my fault though. For going with such big expectations in to such a short story. Had it been longer and more developed, I would have possibly rated higher. Over all, a good, hot, short. Just didn't have the 'WOW' factor I was looking for.
A very quick, short and steamy read ... I picked up one evening to while away a few minutes in an entertaining way ;) It was hot and I liked the HAWT Fireman, who doesn't like one right? Though it was short, it did have a happy ending and that's all I wanted from this read :P
The writing in this short and steamy read is done so well it was actually believable and realistic. I could stop reading this book right off the bat, having it capture me and brought me in the middle of Joanne and Erik's crazy start. Joanne's silly dialoge was a smig childlike, but everyone is different, so with that in mind it didn't actually take away from the story, just made it that much more unique.... The steamy bits were different in a really good way... Making me want to experience a man like Erik... Definitely one to get!
3.5 stars. Pretty straightforward smut up in here. Short, not so sweet and to the point. My one gripe was Joanne at the beginning. What was supposed to be (I think?) drunk girl turned out to be childish ditz. I got over it when they started doin' it, though. ;)
This was not very long, but it was a great story. I thought it was a really cute premise... drunk calling your brother, but you don't actually reach your brother. Instead, you reach someone who has a conscience and can't just let you sit outside the bar, drunk off your ass, refusing to get into a cab, and thankfully refusing to let some guy you don't know take you home.
I thought Joanne was a freaking hilarious drunk. And Eric was such a great standup guy. I mean really... she's in the middle of giving him a blowjob (that he didn't consent to...he was sleeping) and he tries to just stop it altogether because he doesn't want to be a regret. Joanne is quite convincing, and things move further, but Eric never really thought it would be a one-night-stand.
I thought the "conflict" was realistic enough... who wouldn't jump to conclusions? Thankfully, Joanne was sober enough to realize the part she played. And thankfully there was a really cute HEA. Great chemistry between the characters, and pretty steamy sex, too!
2.5 stars This would have been a sold 3 star, except it seemed like there was a missing chapter in there near the end. The beginning was good, an interesting way to set the characters up even though she was being sloppy drunk which isn't really cute. There was an inevitable climax... and then sudden resolution. Completely out of nowhere. We needed one more chapter in there from her perspective showing her indecision, not just a quick sentence from her summing it up after the fact. That kind of ruined it for me, but otherwise a quick, fun, and steamy read.
Nice short story from Olivia Brynn. Steaming hot sex sceans but still very well wover characters.
Eric is a fire fighter want to simply enjoy his holiday by getting full sleep but by his luck he get call from a drunk girl who need her brother to pick her but called on wrong no. But due to his gentelness Eric gone to pic her and take care of her.but faith want more from him for the beautiful girl in his arms.
Johanna is sweet but fun loving girl I like her max when she was drunk. But she was sweet and sizzling hot at same time...

Couldn't finish. Made it to page 60 and stopped. There was absolutely no story. It's less than 100 pages and pretty much all sex with no substance. Definitely not worth the money.
I am not much for labeling but c'mon...a girl who works that fast after a break up isn't right in the head. The "story" came off totally trashy and ridiculous. Josie comes off as a cheap, ditzy tramp/fluzie (I really couldn't decide which word I liked better to describe her), though, she is admittedly a funny drunk. Over the top but still funny and the only positive comment I have for the "story".
This was such an awesome story even though it was short! You can read it super fast, but it was so very fulfilling! Very original, refreshing storyline, awesome characters, a hero that will melt your heart and super smokin hot in the bedroom! The banter between these two was hilarious and I couldn't help but think that it all came full circle, wrapped up nicely with a bow on top, heart warming and perfect! Of course I wanted more, but it's a novella and I was thoroughly pleased! Will read this again and more from this author!
Wow this was a really really short book....only 4 chapters. Not happy about that for the price it's being offered at. I did enjoy the story though, I just wish that Olivia Brynn would've taken the story just a little further & not left the entire ending to our imagination. A one night stand that turns out hilariously funny & sad at one point but does end up with a good feeling. I would recommend it but it needs an ending that fits the story.
This isn't going to stop traffic by any means. It's just your run of the mill short story where two people meet under a ridiculous circumstance and end up rubbing against each other. I didn't find it to be particularly good smexin'.
It's super quick so there isn't much room for a plot or character deveopment but the hero is cute and the heroine is quirky so that was nice to read.
This is the first time I have read anything by Olivia Brynn, and it will NOT be the last. I loved her writing style and her ability to not only tell, but show a story.
