I know this must look ridiculous, me reading her books, one after the next and rating them all with two stars. Angela White is a writer with a lot of flaws. Sometimes I can read several sentences at a time and not have a single idea what the hell she's trying to get across. But obviously I've found some redeeming factors in these books because I just keep reading them. Safe Haven is one of my least favorite in the series because there is absolutely no mention of Kendra, Luke or any other residents of Pitcairn Island. Okay, enough negative feed on why I keep reading books by an author who needs to go back to Creative Writing 101. This is why I keep reading. The characters lives are interesting enough that I keep coming back. Their experiences are such that I can't stop wanting to know what's coming next. These characters are almost as shallow as those you frequently observe in daytime soaps (U.S. style). But I'm one of those intelligent girls who has fallen victim, off and on, to the allure of daytime soaps over the years. I think that's what I'm going through right now with these books. So sorry that this review is less about the books and more about me and why I continue to read them even though they are just kinda bad...It's like a car wreck on the side of the road that you know has nothing to do with you and you should just keep driving instead of slowing down traffic but you slow down like everyone else to take a long gander because you just can't peel your eyes away. It's sometimes tragic, often disastrous, but always captivating....Yep, it's like that.

Too many words. I finished the first three books, more as a quest than from enjoyment. The preface the author penned at the beginning spoke of arrogance and that we the reader should feel honored to be allowed to read her work. Ok, I gave you these three books. I will not journey onto the other four or more you have planned. The characters are just not memorable.

Not perfect, but very enjoyable. Good characters. Good descriptions of the post apocalyptic world. Usually i read another book between multiple volumes, but this I wanted to contine. Everyone is long but never boring. Bought the 4th book.

Well I managed to get through book three of this multi book series and I'm calling a halt. Unless I can find evidence that the other books are less sexist, racist, scientifically inaccurate and better written (grammar .. for goodness sake!) I am done.
To me there is very little that is likable about the Safe Haven leader. He's smug, arrogant and controlling. HE's the guy to rebuild America? There's already the seeds of control and corruption. Seriously, dropping the age of consent to 16 is ridiculous. No matter the motivation for repopulating the world asap, giving birth at such young age is dangerous for mother and child. Despite having the capability to carry a child at a young age a woman is not fully physically developed until aged 20-25.
Not to mention, potentially bringing children into a world where the long term hidden damage of radiation poisoning is unknown.. while they are still travelling through those damaged areas! Surely waiting would be safer for all concerned (after all, they are under threat of war from another powerful group) and waiting until they were permanently settled would be more logical.
I had my doubts about the "magical" aspects of the story, not certain on reading the first book how well they would integrate into the narrative. At this point I think not. There's already a lot going on (war, mutations, sickness, not to mention violence etc) I think adding a magical element was too much.
Overall, I found this story more and more offensive. I strongly disliked that women were viewed in such a negative way, and that several minority groups were portrayed so poorly (i.e. as bad), I had hoped for better from a woman author and won't be reading more of this series.

I only gave this book 3 stars for several reasons. I loved most of the first 2 books, they moved fairly quickly and as the characters evolved, the post apocalyptic world did as well. The pictures were vivid and frightening, and I kept turning the pages to see what would happen next. Angela has kind of irritated me with her irrational fears even though she's gifted and intelligent.

All it made this reader think was "wow, these really are sheep and they are close minded, bigoted zombie-like followers". Aside from some of the main characters, they show no decent emotion, and made me wonder why their amazing, also gifted, gritty leader even bothered gathering them into his "flock". Perhaps we find out what they're truly made of in the next edition? This reader doubts it. Angela's character gets smarter and dumber at the same time. I don't get her and every time she says/does something that I see as honorable and redeeming, she turns around and plays the "dumb chick".
But I digress. I will finish this written series, if only to give Ms. White the benefit of the doubt and hope that she pulls these characters collective heads out, so to speak. I'm almost rooting for Mother Nature in this series. Now SHE knows what she's doing.

So this is the third book in a long series of books - and this story line was only a week. It has some supernatural undertones in it. Some of the phrases and wording that the author uses seems out of place for the time period this is suppose to be in. Sort of old fashion - and it's annoying, lol. Like "She's my woman" um really?! And what's the big deal, leave Kenn already, I'm tired of reading about her trying to decide whether to stay or leave the abusive bastard. There shouldn't even be any thought behind that decision. Makes her seem weak to me. But I like the basis of the story - people surviving after a nuclear war that wipes out the world. People's ugly side stay hidden when there's law and order to keep them in check. This shows just how horrible people really are when that's missing.

This one was a little less man hating, so I was able to enjoy it again. I liked how Angela finally is able to find a place to belong. Honestly, the writing was probably the worst in this book, with large parts of it being really hard to understand. I think it could use the advice of a good editor, but since I enjoy reading raw books, I am easily able to forgive all of these and get down into the story with the errors. The story continues to be good, and has kept me interested in the story of this little group of survivors. I just hope the evil rapists are gone after another installment, since I'm a little tired of the man bashing, and want the more interesting stuff to continue. Survival, mutations, and finding a place to settle are enough of a battle for a couple books after this.

This 3rd book in the Life After War series was a fantastic read! I've enjoyed going deeper into this new terrifying world that Angela White has created. Action, adventure, intrigue, mystery, suspense, magic and more are all wrapped up into an amazing adventure! Combine all of that with a story that keeps you reading late into the night and you've got a winner in this book/series! I'm so glad I stumbled across the 1st two books (free on Amazon believe it or not)! I recommend these books to everyone, though there is mature content! Life after war is not always a pretty picture, as you would expect and will read, but it's realistic and that's what makes it great!

I'm still in love and plan on getting the rest of the books. Ms. White you have outdone yourself. I find myself wishing for the apocalypse just so I can be a part of this story right in the middle of the planning and operations! I know these are Marines and I heart all things military... Go Army!
Been a while since I was hooked on a series. Author Victoria Danann (Black Swans) was the last one.

It seems these books tend to overlap. So if you get the first book you won't really need to buy books 2 and 3. Luckily I got them for free on the author's website. Still a great story. Angela and Marc finally make it to Safe Haven. The camp that is fighting to keep humanity alive. If you've already read books 1 and 2 you know that Angela is a witch with incredible powers that is coveted by both her new leader Adrian, even though he claims he wouldn't force her to use those powers. Also by the Slave Lord Cesar. They won't let this little patch of humanity alone and they must now decide what to do. On to book 4!

After a promising beginning to this series, Safe Haven basically deals with what we all deal with on a daily basis, human conflict, albeit with a back drop of the aftermath of a nuclear war. Unfortunately, the author seems to have lost the image of the backdrop and instead seemed to want to delve on the human conflict and an excruciating slow pace. While I can see where it is an important part of the story, it should not have been a focus of the entire last two books.
Not sure if I will feel inclined to continue the series.

In the third books of the [Life After War] series we learn more about Adrian's creation [Safe Haven]. They are beginning to prepare for a fight with the Mexican slavers but they have to deal with internal conflicts as well caused by Kenn's controlling nature.
The characters continue to drive the story and the way they interact keeps the plot interesting. I am looking forward to reading book 4, [Adrian's Eagles].

So much potential
The story is compelling. I really want to know what comes next. The characters are not simple caricatures.
There is enough plot teasing to keep leading me forward.
But the editing is truly horrific. The grammar is so bad it keeps pulling me out of the story. This story is continually under attack by homonyms and apostrophes.
It's a testament to the plot and characters that I ever got this far.

This was not my favorite. I kept reading expecting there to be more action. This installment had more to do with following the love quadrangle than actually telling an apocolyptic story. I will continue reading the series more because I feel I have vested more in this book series then most. I really hope it gets more exciting as I had serious high hopes for this series.

Finally the hero and despicable one meet. Makes you wonder how the heroine is going to handle all of her abilities and emotions. Even though her primary focus is on her son she still struggles with other areas of her life. As the series continues one begins to wonder how she will resolve her issues (will keep me going at least through the next book).

So glad they finally made it to camp! But geez, what is wrong with Angie??? I am reading and yelling at her simultaneously!!! I am so glad Safe Haven's leader seems to see what is really going on between Angie and Kenn. I like reading the different character's story's. I want more of some than the others, and I have already bought book #4.

With completion of book three, I'm done with this series. When I think of an apocalyptic America, the attitude of those characters just do not fit. And the thought that only one man has the power to hold survivors together along with a witch, is just plain disappointing. There is nothing uplifting in this series to give hope to a lost nation, let alone a reader who is looking for so much more.

Jingoist, and terribly simplistic, with people who seem to think that America means more than a bunch of hype.
The main thing I can say as a review is that book #4 is only $3...and I won't be buying it.
However, if you actually believe that any Marine is better than anyone else, then you can probably stand this book.

Despite some glaring spelling and grammatical errors, this book continues to push the story. While it mostly focused on the survivors camp, I look forward to the next book and hope it will update us with what is going on with some of the characters from books 1&2

Characters contend with many anticipated confrontations in this volume. Very interesting against the backdrop of survival and fear against enemies. Recommend the series to post apocalyptic premise fans.

I really like the synopsis, however, a lot of the story is very repetitive. I read in the first book that every man in the world wants this Angela character, but for some reason, the author continues to add that detail on every single page.

I've read books 1-3. The wtiting (spelling, grammer, etc) is not good and sometimes takes some interpretation to understand what the writer is trying to say. That being said, the stories are interesting and engrossing, if you can get past the unbelievability of the environment and human nature.

I love this series! Can't wait for the next book to come out. I stay up late at night reading when I should be sleeping bc I have to work the next day! Very talented author.
