Heart Song

Rate this book
From #1 bestselling author V.C. Andrews (Flowers in the Attic, My Sweet Audrina) comes the second book in the captivating Logan series...

Melody Logan was as alone as a solitary gull, with only the wild Atlantic wind to lift her spirits...

When Melody's mother tragically died in a car accident, Melody lost the last shred of family she had ever known. She was practically a stranger to the Logans, her wealthy relatives on Cape Cod, where she now found herself drifting amidst dark secrets. In the eyes of her gentle Aunt Sara, Melody was merely a replacement for the daughter she had lost, while to Uncle Jacob, she was a constant reminder of the family's shameful past. Only good-hearted Cary seemed to care for her, and now that it had been revealed they weren’t truly cousins, the affection that had always flowed between them deepened into thrilling, new feelings.

But Melody knew that she could never truly reciprocate Cary's loving promises until she unearthed the truth about her own buried identity. Despite the cold, dagger-like threats of Grandma Olivia, Melody sought out Belinda—a mysterious, half-crazy woman who was her real grandmother. Belinda gave Melody hope, offering a glimmer of the truth hidden beneath the shifting sands of Cape Cod. Melody knew that one day, the story of her past would be revealed, a hard-won treasure to savor in a world of sunshine and happiness—a place where she truly belonged.

Books published under the following names - Virginia Andrews, V. Andrews, Virginia C. Andrews & V.C. Endrius. Books since her death ghost written by Andrew Neiderman, but still attributed to the V.C. Andrews name

Virginia Cleo Andrews (born Cleo Virginia Andrews) was born June 6, 1923 in Portsmouth, Virginia. The youngest child and the only daughter of William Henry Andrews, a career navy man who opened a tool-and-die business after retirement, and Lillian Lilnora Parker Andrews, a telephone operator. She spent her happy childhood years in Portsmouth, Virginia, living briefly in Rochester, New York. The Andrews family returned to Portsmouth while Virginia was in high school.

While a teenager, Virginia suffered a tragic accident, falling down the stairs at her school and incurred severe back injuries. Arthritis and a failed spinal surgical procedure forced her to spend most of her life on crutches or in a wheelchair.

Virginia excelled in school and, at fifteen, won a scholarship for writing a parody of Tennyson's Idylls of the King. She proudly earned her diploma from Woodrow Wilson High School in Portsmouth. After graduation, she nurtured her artistic talent by completing a four-year correspondence art course while living at home with her family.

After William Andrews died in the late 1960s, Virginia helped to support herself and her mother through her extremely successful career as a commercial artist, portrait painter, and fashion illustrator.

Frustrated with the lack of creative satisfaction that her work provided, Virginia sought creative release through writing, which she did in secret. In 1972, she completed her first novel, The Gods of the Green Mountain [sic], a science-fantasy story. It was never published. Between 1972 and 1979, she wrote nine novels and twenty short stories, of which only one was published. "I Slept with My Uncle on My Wedding Night", a short fiction piece, was published in a pulp confession magazine.

Promise gleamed over the horizon for Virginia when she submitted a 290,000-word novel, The Obsessed, to a publishing company. She was told that the story had potential, but needed to be trimmed and spiced up a bit. She drafted a new outline in a single night and added "unspeakable things my mother didn't want me to write about." The ninety-eight-page revision was re-titled Flowers in the Attic and she was paid a $7,500 advance. Her new-generation Gothic novel reached the bestseller lists a mere two weeks after its 1979 paperback publication by Pocket Books.

Petals on the Wind, her sequel to Flowers, was published the next year, earning Virginia a $35,000 advance. The second book remained on the New York Times bestseller list for an unbelievable nineteen weeks (Flowers also returned to the list). These first two novels alone sold over seven million copies in only two years. The third novel of the Dollanganger series, If There Be Thorns, was released in 1981, bringing Virginia a $75,000 advance. It reached No. 2 on many bestseller lists within its first two weeks.

Taking a break from the chronicles of Chris and Cathy Dollanganger, Virginia published her one, and only, stand-alone novel, My Sweet Audrina, in 1982. The book welcomed an immediate success, topping the sales figures of her previous novels. Two years later, a fourth Dollanganger novel was released, Seeds of Yesterday. According to the New York Times, Seeds was the best-selling fiction paperback novel of 1984. Also in 1984, V.C. Andrews was named "Professional Woman of the Year" by the city of Norfolk, Virginia.

Upon Andrews's death in 1986, two final novels—Garden of Shadows and Fallen Hearts—were published. These two novels are considered the last to bear the "V.C. Andrews" name and to be almost completely written by

I’m actually really enjoying this series. Lots of mystery, lots of drama, and none of the usual themes that gross me out so much that I can’t enjoy the story. I’m excited to see where it goes next because those last few chapters were a fun twist. And I just know there’s more secrets to be revealed.

So far, this book is as good as "Melody." I can't even remember where one finished and this one began.

We pick up in the summer, Melody and Cary are out of school for the summer. Melody takes a job with artist Kenneth, who she believes may be her bio Dad. This book shows the growth of the character of Melody. She becomes very independent, headstrong and determined to find out all the secrets that her now deceased mother took to her grave. Who is her father? Througout the book there are hints of a blossoming relationship between Melody and Cary, as well as hateful relationships she forms with members of the Logan family. The book ends on a cliffhanger. I won't ruin it, but I am eager to read the third book in the series, Unfinished Symphony.

An author my mom loved and left me a couple in her library after she died. I've read a couple of Andrews' books that were pretty good, but did not enjoy this as much. A young girl trying to find the secrets of her family and who her father was. Most of the new family she didn't know about are not very friendly to her, but she finds some that give her good support and love.

Kissing cousins. So old! I've heard this theme before. Ruby and Flowers in the Attic had a similar theme. However, those were much better than this series. The Flowers series seemed fresh, and the Ruby series was incredible. However, I could not see the characters in the Logan series. This was too generic, I couldn't understand how someone could fall in love with their own sister. Then, years later, after her death, fall in love with another blood relative. There are hundreds of kids at school one can easily fall in love with. This book was too unbelievable. I would say do not waste your time. Logan has been written before, and it was not a fresh idea. Although I didn't grow up with a brother, there's no way if someone is sleeping in separate bedrooms a romance will develop. Small towns are not that small where you would have to fall in love with someone in your own household. Utterly horrific, please put the book down in the book store and pick up a Sidney Sheldon book, or the Ruby, Flowers in the Attic series.

Heart Song by V. C. Andrews is the second book of the Melody series which I am enjoying. This second book is about Melody's search for her natural father, her romance with Cary, modeling for Kenneth and meeting her real grandmother that does not sit well with Olivia. Melody learns more family secrets and stands up to Olivia. It has a shocking ending that left me hanging, eager to read the next book of the series.

This series sort of reminds of Belva Plain's family sagas. There is a lot of interaction among the characters which makes for an interesting read. I liked this book as well as the first, Melody.

Melody’s quest to find her true father is a little contrived, and I’m not sure why Kenneth Childs had to get her to pose nude and there haven’t been too many leads to the family secrets everyone hunts about. A bit of a slow burner, this one.

(jajajnt)

"I couldn't help wondering if the feelings Cary claimed to have for me were really leftover desires he'd had for Laura."

LA SEGUNDA OPCION, tan yo.

'What was wrong with me that I could feel both repulsed and attracted at the same time?"

si hermana si.

"Just when I had gotten to the point where I thought I knew Kenneth, I discovered he was more of a stranger than ever. Perhaps we never get to know anyone, I thought, not even people we love and people who claim to love us."

tan yo.

"How could I have been stupid enough to think that Kenneth could love me?"

si.

cambiando de tema, lets talk about the romance. algo que realmente me gustó.

"I left him standing there, smiling at me, his shoulders gleaming in the late-afternoon sun, the sea, roaring behind him, and my heart . . ."

L'oncle Jacob m'a également beaucoup agacée...

As someone who remembers many details of this series, it is nice to see how things are being planned out, especially with Teddy Jackson (ngl he one of my faves). The relationship between Cary and Melody is still cringy; like the scene near the end where Cary sneaks into her room and starts to touch her and kiss her while she is protesting, like Boy, learn consent. With May, I did really like seeing a deaf representation, but she can be so annoying in this book, like I wish there was more about the negligence of her character rather than her being a cliche, naive kid. I felt like in the first book, they really made her character sympathetic because of her treatment by both parents, but it is barely brought up in this book. The whole subplot between Kenneth, Melody, and Holly (Yack!), girl Kenneth ain't even a hottie in my mind (I imagine the comic boy teen from Nightmare on Elm St. 6), Holly is so annoying with her hippie ways, and Melody should be trying to find better ass than Kenneth Childs, like an interesting way you could of went (instead of replaying Heaven scenes with new names) was to show more of an attraction between Teddy Jackson and Melody, now that would be messed up, and he can be like this can't ever happen and she would be like why, and he be like because ... (no spoilers :P)

This book was a hot mess...but it's VC Andrews so I guess that's kind of expected.

Melody lost her mom in the last book and has to adjust to a new life in Cape Cod with a family full of secrets and lies. Convinced the hermit artist down the road is her father, Melody works as a house keeper for him and also agrees to nude modeling...ya know, cause he's an artist. When he reveals he's not her father she's suddenly sexually attracted to him. And when she and Cary realize they're not 1st cousins but 3rd...they take their relationship to another level because it's ok now! Melody also meditates and likes stones and stuff now because Holly does. She visits her ailing "real" grandmother and discovers her true grandfather, stands up to Grandma Olivia and then runs around acting "mature".

In short, we still didn't get any answers and just more questions at the end of this one...and Melody is actually only featured in one more book as the other two are prequels. It's uncomfortable, Uncle Jacob calling Melody a whore because her mom was a flirt was weird...the suave flirty dude in town is probably totally her father...and I don't know. It was typical VC Andrews weirdness.

This book really makes me think. It is a good back overall and can't wait to read the third book. The series is really good too. V.C. Andrews is an amazing author.

Melody is an amazing character that develops really well. With her wanting to find out her family and her family secrets is good to read. The anticipation to see what will be next, is good in this book. We get to see her relationship with Cary involve which I find really sweet. With Cary and Melody not actually being cousins, helps with the relationship but they are still offical family which proves difficult.

I can't wait to read the 3rd book and see what happens next on Melody's path to her family especially her father and mother.

Great story, but

This is a good story. It has a strong opening and a wonderful cliffhanger to get you lined up for the next book. The continuity of character development was great. The only problem I have is the editing. A lot of misspellings and a few grammatical errors. The editor of the digital versions need to go over them again.

Captivating!!

It took awhile to really get into the story itself until I realized that a lot of V.C. Andrews novels always end with a twist and when I realized I wanted to finish it to see what the twist was, I was glad I did. I held my kindle until I finished the book and was glad I did!

I have to say that the twist end of the buddy back home mailing a catalog to Melody did surprise me. The creepy subplot of Melody doing half-naked modeling for Kenneth was like a flashback to creepy Tony Tatterton LOL. But I admit, I was shocked to learn that Melody's mom might be alive and well as a model.

Takže pokračujeme. No tentoraz je dej taký pomalší, dokonca mi tam prišlo dosť málo drámy a zvráteností (nechápte ma zle, je to Andrewsova 😅), no napriek tomu som si to strašne užila.

I like the romance with Molody and Cary, I'm glad they are distant cousins. VC andrews like to make them related some how in her books. I wish Molody would leave her mother alone, she abandoned her and faked her death. Molody uncle Jacob and grandma drives me crazy but I do like the family.
