Highlander #2

The Highlander's Heart

Rate this book

Fleeing into the wilderness to escape an abusive marriage, Lady Isabelle Tynsdale would sooner face down a wild boar than spend another night with her wretched husband. Battered by the elements, desperate to elude a band of attackers, and defending herself against, as fate would have it, a wild boar she is rescued by the handsome Laird David Campbell.

Campbell knows holding Isabelle captive for ransom is his best chance to temper the storm threatening to destroy his clan. The ransom of an English countess should be more than enough to pay off his debts to England and save him from an unwanted marriage. But Isabelle didn't escape her husband just to become another man's captive and Laird Campbell is seriously misguided if he thinks she's going to go quietly.

Praise for The Highlander's Sword:

"Highly entertaining debut romantic comedy of miscommunications and misunderstandings."

Amanda Forester holds a PhD in clinical psychology and a Masters degree in theology. As a psychologist, she has worked as a clinical researcher and a university instructor (what they call you when they don’t want to give you tenure). None of which has anything to do with writing romance novels. After trying for many years to stop the internal storylines floating around her head, she finally gave up and wrote one down. Now when she is caught daydreaming and talking to herself she can just say, “I’m plotting a scene for my next novel,” which sounds so much better than, “I’m hallucinating and responding to internal stimuli.”

Amanda lives in the Pacific Northwest with her officer and a gentleman husband and their two remarkably active, naturally brilliant children. They share their home with two fiendishly destructive cats and one lazy dog.

The Highlander’s Series represents Amanda's first venture into writing historical fiction, so she would greatly enjoy hearing from readers.

I enjoyed the different elements going on in this story. Not only was it a story about David Campbell and Isabelle Tynsdale, but it had a small side story for one of David's sisters and her lady in waiting. There was also a small side story about a plot to take out the Bishop involving a man who plays a role in something that happens to Lady Cait Campbell and her lady in waiting. There's also the plot of taking Lady Tynsdale land and castle.

I really loved the break up of the story with everything going on. It made the story not boring and gave it excitement. It's a long book and having the break up was nice as it didn't drag out any particular part of the story line.

My favorite parts
1. The minstrel
2. Last chapter
3. Epilogue
4. Isabelle. Always finding mischief with good intentions and therefore labeling her a trouble maker by Campbell. His reactions towards the end made me smile.
5. David Campbell. He was loyal to a fault to his clan, family and when he could, to Isabelle.
6. Different POVs
7. All the different story plots.
8. Andrew and Cait
9. David Campbell's brothers.
10. Author's Note

Side Note: Book two can be read as a stand-alone. In no way did I feel I had missed anything by not reading book one. Book one is about a man named McLaren and Chaumont. Though McLaren is the Hero and Chaumont is his friend. They do show up in book two in small roles. You do not need to read book one to really know much about them. Their roles are not big enough to feel like you missed anything.

This book has been sitting on my bookshelf for so long. I had no idea what I was missing out on until I picked it out of my teetering shelf and opened it. There was a surprise waiting for me inside.

Before this, Amanda Forester was a new –to-me author and as a highlander romance fan, I knew I had to try her books out. Within the first ten pages, I knew this book was different. There was historical accuracy. There were great characters. And there was a handful of charm that went a long way.

Isabelle Tynsdale is running away from her abusive husband, who after the death of her uncle has the intention of killing her to gain inheritance to her lands. She escapes on her horse, fleeing her home and the man who has hurt her greatly. When her horse decides to leave her, letting her fend for herself alone, she stumbles upon three evil men with the intention of raping her. Scared beyond belief and wondering if she made the right decision running from her husband for more dangerous threats , she is rescued by a barbarian. Later, she finds out his name is Laird David Campbell.

Their chemistry is instant and palpable. What I loved about this book is the fact that Forester first develops strong character in the hero and heroine. David is the barbarian highlander while Isabelle is the English lass with some sass. Then, Forester puts them together and it’s absolute dynamite!

There is a mixture of adventure, passion, politics and charm. Perhaps my favourite parts of the book are the dialogue between David and Isabelle. Their banter is enough to keep me reading for days, as is the subplot of David’s sister, Cait. I can’t wait to see what is in store for her.

Overall, THE HIGHLANDER’S HEART kept me reading into the wee hours of the night, making me laugh and fall in love alongside the characters.

I reviewed this book for Romance Reader At heart website.

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:

This author is new to me, and to make things even more interesting, this is the second book in the series. THE HIGHLANDER'S SWORD was the first one (and tops off my ever growing TBR shelf). I'm one of those readers that HAVE to read the series in order, but this author has done an excellent job, so I truly wasn't aware of the fact that this was the second book in the series.

Isabelle, Countess of Tynsdale, was married very young five years ago, and right after, she ran away from her husband, seeking shelter within the walls of her home at Alnsworth Castle. Upon her uncle's death she inherits the Castle and the land, and realizing that her husband sent his men for her, she decides to run.

David Campbell cited urgent business at one of his holdings as an excuse to Lady Douglas who expects him to marry her daughter Eileen. While on the road, our hero comes across Isabelle who's in danger, not only from men but beast, as well. He saves her life both times, and from that point on we're treated to a most funny, and thoroughly sweet, love adventure.

THE HIGHLANDER'S HEART has all the elements a romance should--two very strong main characters that will melt your heart with their sweet romance, and an intriguing and suspenseful plot with an entertaining villain.

I highly recommend this fast paced and thoroughly entertaining story. It really captured the `feel' of the Highlands, and I could hear the Scottish burr in my head. Loved it!

Very good

Really enjoyable. Best book I’ve read in a while. Loved how Isabelle was constantly escaping. Had some twists that I absolutely did not see coming.

Amanda Forester continues her tale of courageous Highlanders in the majestic beauty of Scotland with The Highlander’s Heart.

After the death of her guardian and uncle, Lady Isabelle Tynsdale sets off on a journey to the King to request his help in dissolving her marriage to the vile Lord Tynsdale, who will surely murder Isabel to inherit her uncle’s lands. On the border of Scotland however, her guard runs into that of her husband’s and Isabelle runs for her life. Lost and disheveled, wondering a lone road, Isabelle is set upon by three men with dastardly intentions when the fearsome Laird David Campbell comes to her rescue. The first of many. Surprised with finding herself in Scotland, Isabelle asks Laird Campbell for help returning to England only to have him decide to ransom Isabelle to her husband instead. Determined to escape before her husband comes for her, Isabelle uses every means possible to get away only to end up in David’s arms every time.
Laird David Campbell is a highly respected Laird but with many responsibilities; taking care of his clan, his many siblings and arranging a suitable marriage for himself. Finding himself informally betrothed to two women after his parent’s deaths, David must decide between a friend and powerful ally in the Stewarts, the Steward of Scotland and his foster family the mighty Douglas’, each who has their own political agenda to gain that conflict with one another. When he happens upon a lady in danger he knows she is sure to be trouble but even though she is English he is instantly attracted to her and as they journey through Scotland he cannot help being intrigued by her until he discovers that she’s a Countess on the run from her husband. Betrayed, David holds her for ransom and intends to return Isabelle to her husband believing her proper place is with him. But the more time David spends with Isabelle the more he comes to care for her. When the time comes, will he be able to let her go? Even if the cost of keeping her puts his clan, and the whole of Scotland, in danger?

The Highlander’s Heart falls eight years after The Highlander’s Sword and makes a great stand-alone novel. I enjoyed The Highlander’s Heart so much more then the first novel, the story was full of romance and adventure with political intrigue, captivating characters and an engaging story. Amanda Forester is a master at weaving a tale in this time period, the 14th century. Immersing the reader in the well-detailed world she has created in the wild beauty of the Scottish Highlands.

The romance in this novel was better balanced out with the action as opposed to what I found in the first novel. Still light and leans more towards a Christian Romance, the story is well written and will immerse you fully. Strong religious tones are present as well but I found this refreshing and enjoyable. The relationship between David and Isabelle was sweet and funny; and their banter highly entertaining. Their relationship seemed hopelessly doomed from the beginning and throughout the novel I couldn’t see a HEA being possible but the ending was satisfying and heartwarming, leaving me with a little happy sigh. J I loved both main characters and thought them a perfect fit for each other. Isabelle lent David a shoulder at exactly the right moments, she was a strong heroine, daring and smart. She didn’t always make the right decisions but had good intentions. David was sexy and honorable, protective of his family and those he called his. His responsibilities always came first, even over his own happiness. A very endearing character to say the least.
The sub-plot of David’s sister Cait falling in love with the enemy was just as intriguing as the main plot and I couldn’t help rooting for this unlikely couple.

A wonderful novel that I loved reading; I would recommend this to any historical romance fan looking for a good, clean read.

I’ll start by saying I really enjoyed the writing and characters. Isabelle was very likable, although a bit impulsive. David was your typical brooding hero, but can’t help to rescue the damsel in distress, repeatedly. I liked the plot and to be honest still want to read and find out what will happen next, it was a lot of fun. I only made it about 25% though and decided I should probably just stop. And here’s why:

Normally a cover like this would scare me off. But, not only was this recommended as a clean read a LOT of other reviews led me to think it would be clean as well. Numerous reviews not only described it as clean but also as a Christian romance with an “honorable” hero. I admit the first part of the book was pretty clean, and I’m sure compared to other romance novels this is probably “clean”. I was surprised when I came upon a scene that after thinking about it I can only say is not clean. The author does not go into too much detail, but there is enough to know what is going on. But, what really bothered me is that when the event is over our “honorable” David asks Isabelle to be his mistress, and get this…she’s actually flattered! Yeah right. Not only would a lady of her situation and upbringing NOT be flattered by this, but any lady in her right mind would not and should not be flattered by this. No matter how attractive he is.

Let me give you a little background info. She has run away from her husband and he rescues her along the way (a few times) and they end up having to share a room for the night. He promises that her virtue will remain intact. BUT during the night she is awoken by his caresses and one thing leads to another (they don’t have sex, but they do other stuff). To me that is NOT a guy protecting your virtue. That is a horny guy who cannot control himself and has NO respect for you. And to prove my point he has the audacity to ask her to stay on as his mistress. Did I forget to mention that he is engaged…to two other girls? True, they are arranged marriages and he hasn’t decided between the two, but the fact that he plans on marrying and already plans on having affairs is just gross and wrong on so many levels. When he finds out soon after that she is actually married he is hurt. Apparently its wrong for a woman to cheat on her husband, but it’s okay for husbands to cheat on their wives. Don’t get me wrong, Isabelle is no innocent in this. Frankly she was a little too loose when it came to David, I would have liked to see a shred of morals in her, instead of her constantly (at least the parts that I read) throwing herself at him. BTW, David has SEVEN sisters. I highly doubt that if some guy asked one of them to be their mistress he'd be okay with that. He should have respect for all women, no matter their "title". I just wish he had been honorable and that she would have been as well.

Despite all that I still skimmed/skipped over most of the book to find out how their story would end. While skimming I came across a scene where Campbell is apologizing to Isabelle for that night. Not sure if he is really apologizing for the right reasons, but I admit it did make me feel slightly better. Then I thought I’d skip to the last chapter to find out what happens, which probably wasn’t a good idea because that’s where David and Isabelle finally marry and consummate things. While I’m glad to find out they waited until they were married, I didn’t want to know the details and there were enough to make me blush.

So overall, I couldn’t call this a clean read. I REALLY wanted to like it, but those two scenes alone make it a NOT clean read. The Epilog was nice though (very clean and more private “fade-to-black”), if the whole book had been like that I think I would have really enjoyed it. It’s too bad you can’t edit Kindle books.

I probably won't read any more by this author, and learned that maybe sometimes you should judge a book by its cover.

The Highlander’s Heart by Amanda Forester
Grade: C+

“‘Tis a shame I canna stay to further yer education on the art of kissing, for if anyone needs it, ‘tis ye.” “I am getting chilled waiting for you to stop whining and start impressing me with your kissing arts.”

At just sixteen years of age Lady Isabelle Tynsdale was wed to the powerful Lord Tynsdale by her uncle in hopes to unite their powerful houses. During the wedding night, Lord Tynsdale goes into a rage almost killing Isabelle and she has to flee her new home and return to her uncle. Five years later her uncle has passed away and Isabelle is determined to divorce her husband and keep herself and her people alive so she sets out to petition the King of England for a divorce. On her journey she is separated from her guard and soon stumbles across the borders and right into the arms of Laird David Campbell.

Laird David Campbell is quite surprised to find a beautiful English woman wandering along the English-Scottish border and even more surprised by the attraction that he feels for her. As the journey through Scotland, Campbell finds himself falling for Isabelle that is until he discovers that she is an English Countess who has run away from her husband. Campbell decides to keep Isabelle but as a prisoner instead of a mistress and ransom her back to her husband. None too soon Campbell realizes that his feelings from Isabelle are real and he might not be able to let her go even if it might ruin everything he’s worked so hard for.

Let me start by saying that I am a big fan of of highlander romance and try to read as many as I can get my hands on so I was very excited to read The Highlander’s Heart. The beginning of this book was very, very good and the relationship between Isabelle and Campbell was so fun and full major sexual tension. I really liked Campbell and found him to be very sweet for a highlander in the 1400’s and not your typically alpha male character. Isabelle made me laugh so much because no matter what she did she got into some kind of crazy situation. It gets so bad that at one point Campbell ties her to him so she can’t get into anything.

I think the major problem that I had with this book was all of the side stories. Don’t get me wrong I liked them but halfway through most of the book stopped being about Isabelle and Campbell and more about the other love stories going on. I think these stories were important but they started to take away from the main relationship that I was interested in and wanted more from. I found myself starting to not like the side characters and forcing myself to read their sections which made the whole reading experience not very much fun.

I believe this is the second book in a series but I could be completely wrong. I think this may be true only because of the ending when some “new characters” join and it seems that you are supposed to know who they are. I found this very confusing and I had to re-read the end to try and figure out what was going on. I know I have rambled a lot over what I didn’t like but this was a good book with great characters, lots of hot sexual tension and flirty banter.

An English Lady with sass, an unlikely Highland protector, and plenty of good humor make up this delightfully entertaining historical romance.

After the death of her uncle, English Lady Isabelle Tynsdale is on the run from her cruel husband. Isabelle knows that her husband will kill her if he finds her, just to claim her inheritance, her Uncle’s estate. While on the run from her husband’s men, Isabelle gets lost by herself. She winds up all alone and disheveled and the only help around is a brute of a highlander. The highlander turns out to be the Laird David Campbell who helps Isabelle without knowing her identity. Isabelle is afraid that if her identity is discovered, she will be sent back to her husband. As David and Isabelle travel together, they develop an attraction for each other, but both know that because of Isabelle’s husband and David’s marital obligations they could never be a couple. However, neither know the truth about Isabelle’s husband.

The Highlander’s Heart is an engaging read, and I really loved this book. There is plenty of action and adventure. Isabelle may be an English Lady, but she has spunk. She is constantly trying to escape, she has a penchant for getting herself into trouble, and David Campbell has to continually rescue her. Don’t get me wrong here, while Isabelle is in trouble a lot, she is not at all annoying or whiny. She is highly entertaining, a heroine to love. David is a strong warrior and leader, he puts value in his word and his family. He has a very large family, many bothers and sisters, so the last thing he really needed was to be responsible for a lost woman. He proves again and again that he is a very good man by continually putting up with Isabelle’s antics. Isabelle and David are a very good match, and between them and David’s sisters, there really is never a dull moment.

The adventure in The Highlander’s Heart is tempered with humor and with romance. There is a bit of a side story in The Highlander’s Heart involving David’s younger sister Cait. Cait and Isabelle become good friends, and Cait proves that she can get into just as much trouble as Isabelle. I enjoyed Cait’s part of the story, but really Isabelle and David are the shining stars of this novel.

There is much to love about The Highlander’s Heart. There is tension between the English and the Scots, Highland warriors, a mischief finding heroine, inter-clan struggles, and an unexpected enemy. This book is book 2 in a series, but I honestly had no idea it was book two until after I read it. You don’t have to read book 1 to enjoy book 2, but I enjoyed The Highlander’s Heart so much that I will have to read the other books in the series.

The Highlander’s Heart will grab you, entertain you, you will laugh, cry, and live the story right along with the characters. The bottom line here, Historical Romance and Highlander fans, do not miss The Highlander’s Heart. I very highly recommend this book.

What a fun story to read! Amanda Forester's The Highlander's Heart is filled with sweet romance, political intrigue, chivalrous and not so chivalrous characters, complex alliances, secrets, and possible wars. It kept me reading well into the wee hours but it was worth the lack of sleep.

Lady Isabelle Tynsdale is desperate to escape her marriage to the violently abusive Earl of Tynsdale. Fleeing from him 5 years ago, she returned to her uncle for safety. But when her uncle dies, she knows not only will her husband come for her but for her beloved home as well. She travels to meet with the King to beg him to dissolve her marriage but is met en route by her husband's soldiers. Literally running for her life, Isabelle unknowingly enters Scotland where she encounters 3 ruffians. Just when she thinks she has met her end, she is rescued by a half naked barbarian. Could things get any worse?
Laird David Campbell is in a fix of his own. In a dangerous and lawless time in Scotland, rumblings of discord and whispers of treason and war are in the air. The English brought nothing but ruination and poverty, and now he found himself betrothed to not one, but two women he didn't even like while struggling to pay ransom to England for the release of their Scottish King. When he realizes the lass he has rescued in the woods is not only English, but a countess, he knows ransoming her may be his only chance out of his situation. But trouble seems to follow Isabelle wherever she goes and David finds himself not just in risk of losing his life, but his heart as well.

This was my second Amanda Forester book and my first introduction to this series. I am hooked! David and Isabelle are such charming characters. Their attraction to each other builds and soon the sparks between them are palpable. Their playful repartee was a delight to read. ( I loved the "kissing like Aunt Edna" references!) Isabelle was an English lady but she was tough with lots of sass. Sure, her endeavors often got her in even more trouble but she entered them with good intentions. David, though Isabelle drives him insane at times, can't deny he is drawn to her. In spite of the fact that every encounter with her brings more trouble for him, he can't seem to walk away from her.
All the characters in this story are so clever, wonderfully written, and interwoven with each one's story affecting and hinging on the other. There are lots of layers and conflicts, not always physical, but often conniving and pulling strings. Readers will easily find themselves pulled into this delightful story. Though part of a series, it reads as a stand alone, but I will definitely be reading all of this charming series.

The Highlander’s Heart combines intrigue, suspense, and pulse-pounding romance. From start to finish, the book takes the reader on an unforgettable journey with characters that come to life on the page. Amanda Forester has penned a novel that historical romance fans will thoroughly enjoy, with multiple twists and turns that will keep readers on their toes.

The heroine, Isabelle, is the perfect balance of strong and vulnerable. Knowing she faces certain death, she relies on her wit and instinct to survive. Nothing in her world is black and white, and there is no one she can trust. Every moment reveals more about her past, which is dark to say the least. Likewise, the hero, David, is confronted with his own conflicts. Destined to lead his clan, he has no other option but to see to the welfare of his people. His loyalty is unwavering. However, he can’t resist the alluring beauty that stumbles across his path. Although Isabelle is a woman he can’t have, he fanaticizes of what might have been if circumstances were different.

The obstacles standing between Isabelle and David, while enormous, only bring the star-crossed duo closer together. This is the beauty of A Highlander’s Heart and what makes the book so memorable. There is no guaranteed happily-ever-after. Rather, the hero and heroine must struggle to come to terms with what they can and cannot change.

Multiple plot lines add richness and depth to the plot, and all the secondary characters are well-rounded. The Highlander’s Heart isn’t your average romance. Instead you are plunged into the lives and experiences of those surrounding Isabelle and David. As a bonus, Ms. Forester’s elegant writing style is enhanced with beautifully written dialogue and attention to detail. Enthusiasts of historical romance will undoubtedly enjoy this newest offering in the genre

The perfect romance for those looking for a sweet romance, a good laugh and wonderful sub-plots thrown in. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and am curious to read more from Amanda Forester. I love romances that can toss in some humor that makes me laugh but doesn't come across as too campy. The romance is sweet and you can definitely feel the chemistry between David and Isabelle but don't hold your breathe if you are one of those romance fans who like the long, detailed sex scenes. This book is quite tame in that aspect but suits my taste perfectly.

I will say to enjoy this you will have to suspend your belief in reality and just take it as a given that no matter what trouble Isabelle gets herself into David somehow miraculously always manages to be there to save her. I also found it hard to believe that as a noble woman Isabelle really could have walked as long and as far as it is made out to be. Still just go with the flow and take it for what it is.

Along with David and Isabelle's story we also follow the plight of one of David's sisters who is kidnapped and ends up meeting the love of her life. Alas things never go smoothly and their relationship appears to be doomed to end in misery. I loved the twists and turns that take place along the way and when I finished the book I admit I did let out a satisfied sigh.

Lady Isabelle Tynsdale has just lost her uncle and protector from her cruel husband. To protect her estate Isabelle attempts to see the king to have her marriage annulled. In route to the king she gets separated from her guard and runs into a highlander, Laird David Campbell. David hates the English and cannot step on English soil or he will be arrested. Yet and still he decides to help Isabelle and getting her to safety. However, Isabelle is fearful that she will be discovered and while she will admit to being English she refuses to tell David that she is the Lady Tynsdale. Then the adventure begins.

This is a great romance novel, you have two really string characters that just balance each other out. I loved how Isabelle had so much spunk and was constantly trying to escape while poor David kept rescuing her. When David is not saving Isabelle he is busy being the Laird and dealing with his family and the on-going war with the English. Both of the characters were extremely likable and it was good to watch a couple become friends first.

I really liked this one great pace and funny to boot. I will say if you are looking for sex it is not here and this one does have some religious undertones which I think added to the story.

After reading the author's first book and finding it a really refreshing change from the norm, I was excited to read this book. I didn't enjoy this book quite as much as the first, but it was still a sweet, relaxing read.

The story is very sweet, and nothing really objectionable happens. There are no cringe-worthy moments or traumas. Even the ever-present highlander kidnapping turns out to be a good thing for all involved. The leads were slightly bland for my liking but there were actually two supporting couples with romances of their own and they were a little more multi-faceted. I enjoyed watching the secondary romances play out.

It did seem like problems and obstacles worked themselves out a little too perfectly and a little too quickly. On one page an obstacle would arise and it would be solved perfectly on the following page. Still it was a cute, sweet, and relaxing read.

If you're looking for a sweet, quick read about highlanders, this is the book for you.

6 Huge 'Now and Forever' Stars

Wow. Just wow.

After reading the first book in the series, I was reluctant to give this one a try. Not that I didn't like the first book, but it didn't push me to read more of the series.
When I saw this was about Campbell, I got curious. He makes a small apearence in the first book, and the blurb seemed attractive enough to give it a try.

I'M SO GLAD I PICKED IT UP.

The Highlander's Heart was a full house for me.

Free of dull moments... Check
Truly heartbreaking story... Check
Emotional rollercoaster... Check
Amazing heroine... Check
Fantastic Alpha highlander... Check
Superb family and secondary characters... Check
Laughed myself silly effortlessly... Check
Cried more times than I can count... Check

*Sigh*

Hours after I read it and I'm still with a high.

I would not say it's an epic love story, but it was close enough for me.

I truly loved it and highly recommend it.

I can only say that I wish David Campbell were real! ;o) Amanda has succeeded again in writing a humorous and exciting story. The characters are strong, believable and easy to fall in love with. This really is one of those "I couldn't put it down" books!

This is a nail biter and not predictable which is very refreshing. One of my favorite parts is in the very beginning when David kisses Isabelle and he tells her she kisses like his Aunt Edna. Hilarious!!

If I could have given this one ten stars, I would have. ;o)

Nice story. It was cute how Isabelle was always up to some kinda mischief. I love dhow David was always having to rescue her. Every time she's get away he'd be right there to catch her again. Story was longer than a normal romance book. Since I have not read book 1 or 3 yet, I look forward to finishing this set. There was very little romance and what was there was bland. The author did not go into any details. So if you are looking for a juicy read, this isn't it. If you want a good story with just about no sex, this one is for you.

Had some interesting moments, with generally good writing, but I couldn't get fully invested in the characters, and the subplots were distracting. I skimmed through half of the book. Character-wise, i found Isabelle rather frustrating with her repeated attempts at escape without thinking things through. Campbell was amiable and amusing, but not at all arresting. I did like some of the secondary characters.

Overall, the author seems promising; I would keep an eye out for future books.

I loved the characters! Oh my, the poor heroine had a long run of bad luck. But she is incredibly determined and isn't whiney despite all that happens to her. I laughed. I cried. I raged. Each and every chapter was an emotional roller coaster! I love stories that make me feel..so much! lol!

430 pages of I don't understand why this book exists. I don't even think I can summon the strength to write a full length review on this book. I don't understand why this book is so highly rated on this website. It's just two idiots running circles around each other with everything coming to a head 20 pages before the book ends. I don't even want to waste my time with a review. I think it's ridiculous that these two had a happy ending. The odds were so against them and I cared so little about either of them as characters that I would have been fine if they both just walked away from each other and that was that. I found myself finishing this book just to find out what happens to the side characters romance story because THEY WERE MORE INTERESTING THAN THE MAIN CHARACTERS. Also this book literally preached about god half the time. Half of it was Isabelle running away and not telling David the truth when she knows full well that if she told him that her husband was trying to murder her he would not return her to him. And the other half was like I was sitting in church. This entire plot was pointless because around page 50 she just could have explained everything to him and it would have been finished.
Anyway I'm done with this because I cannot spend anymore precious time on this book. I'd like to remind everyone that these are my opinions on why I did not like this book and everyone shares different opinions.

The Highlander's Heart is a constant battle between politics and morals. Isabelle is an Englishwoman and already married to boot, which makes up for a whole lot of frustration when combined with a bonnie highlander - too much for my personal taste.
Even though this novel is nicely action-packed as the previous one, which makes for an exciting read overall, I can't shake off the feeling Amanda chose the wrong main characters to focus on. Because Cait and Andrew's love development is as lovely as can be. Andrew is still young and his ardent love speaks of bottomless dedication, childish admiration and simple happiness in the little things, which is in stark contrast against the passion-hungry David holding himself back against his feelings because the subject of his admiration is a Sassenach, married and because of his own duty for his people.
That being said, this novel just shows how talented Amanda is to write such differing types of romances. So, for those looking for a more serious and conflicting romantic development with spice sprinkled in at the right moments, definitely recommend, just a bit too heavy for my liking.

I love this Author and series! This book did not disappoint! It is about Lady Tisdale (English) and Lord Campbell (Scottish). I love how both had high morals and a sense of loyalty to their people/clan. I really love how the author puts God and Christianity in her books. Even though lady Tisdale has doubts about God, she hopes and prays. I can relate to her and her situations in life. It does seem through the story God has a hand in her life. I found this book to be everything I want - laughfulable, romantic, epicable, challenging, religious, passionate. It's a great journey and I highly recommend!

I enjoyed the storyline. He treated her with respect and honor, which is rare for the time frame, as well as in most current 'romance' books. He had a wonderful family who all loved each other. There were predictable portions and some twists. There was an underlying sweetness that I enjoyed. No gratuitous sex was another bonus. Without it, the story could proceed with a real storyline complete with likeable characters, a couple likeable 'villains', strong family bonds and real honor. Great job, Ms Forester.

The beginning and ending were great! But there were several things twisted up in the middle that made this book my least favorite of Forester's "Highlander" trilogy. David & Isabelle seem fated to be together, as often as they run into each other, but their feelings seem based on lust alone and not necessarily the finer feelings of falling in love. They are also at odds much of the time...

But I still love Forester and enjoy her amazing skill in writing a great novel!

This book had a lot going on
Not only do we get to read Lady Isabelle and David Campbell's story, but David's sister Cait's as well. McNabb and the others from book one book one also make an appearance. This book keeps the reader entertained and engaged. It is mostly faced pace.
This book can stand alone, but I liked reading book one first.

Educating

I didn't know the trueness of all of the going on of this really intertaining story. It was really good to read this very good story. I'll look into the next. For I was wondering if Morgan ever did become maried or have someone like her because of her meanness and boyish way.

I would have given this book a 5, because I loved the main characters. Unfortunately, the book rambles on and on. It would have been a lot better if it was 200 pages shorter and got more to the point. (Really, how many times can a damsel in distress be in distress?)
