Gallifrey #3.4

Gallifrey: Mindbomb

Rate this book
'They used to tell me at the Academy that anyone could become president. I'm beginning to believe it.'

The first presidential election for millennia is about to be held on Gallifrey. But in the wake of the civil war that has torn the Time Lords apart, can even an election restore calm and order?

And what of the candidates? Darkel — determined to win at any cost... Matthias — a dark horse with his own agenda... Romana — impeached for high treason...

But even as the candidates manouevre and plan, an assassin stalks the galleries of the Panopticon. Gallifrey will soon have a new president, but at what cost? How many people will have to die? And which — if any — of the candidates will survive..?

THIS AUDIO. THIS SERIES I CANNOT !!!!!!

BRAX. BRAX. BRAX. God i love this asshole way too much and I love him with Leela and his satisfying revenge.

It's just so goood.

I love Gallifrey: Mindbomb because Darkel is hell-bent on becoming President and then boom, Chancellor Braxiatel shows up to her complete surprise and for once she is actually speechless because she did not expect his return or for him to become President so soon and it’s all her fault because she is so strict on tradition and the old ways and it all comes back onto her and it’s fantastic to see.

We're now at the concluding episodes of the original Gallifrey series of audios, everything that was set up has been leading up to these final two stories and I'm excited!

Darkel has won, and with the election, she becomes the most popular vote and with Romana imprisoned, it looks like Gallifrey will finally succumb to the past. However, in the shadows, someone is plotting against Darkel and finally the truth will be revealed.

Justin Richards is back at the helm and once again he's written an amazing episode that concludes Darkel's story wonderfully, to see Darkel's selfishness become the better of her was so satisfying to me, considering all the horrible stuff she's put our favorite characters through. It was great to see Braxiatel back and arguably at his cleverest.

Overall: Mindbomb is so far looking to be my favorite of Series 3, I can't say for certain however since I still have the finale to listen to, but Alan Barnes has a lot to live up to and admittedly I'm excited to see how he ties up the series. 10/10

As the presidential race on Gallifrey reaches its climax, Romana faces betrayal, machinations, and an unexpected ally in this riveting penultimate chapter.

Mindbomb delivers a gripping blend of political drama and character-driven tension, elevated by Braxiatel’s triumphant return and a well-executed climax. While some narrative elements feel repetitive, the episode’s strengths make it a standout in Gallifrey Series 3.

The election for President of Gallifrey is upon us and the scandals continue to swirl around the candidates. I don't think that Romana is perfect, but I do feel like she was and is the best President that Gallifrey has ever had.

For an audio titled Mindbomb, it didn't really blow my mind. Not sure why these aren't climbing higher in rating for me.

Lots of politics in this one as well, but it worked better for me than some of the other episodes in this series. I'm looking forward to the finale...

This was a lot of fun. This is political Gallifrey at some of its most political. We're in the middle of an election, the first election on Gallifrey in centuries. The candiates are Romana, Matthias and Darkel. This is a lot of political manuevering with Romana in prison, Matthias scheming in the shadows and Darkel determined to win at any cost. I won't spoil anything, but the last third had me grinning from ear to ear as everything came together. This was a lot of fun, but it does kinda need the build up from the previous episodes (at least from Series 2 and 3). That said, the payoff is well worth it. If you like Romana II, Leela and K9, and are a fan of political stories, then you'll probably have a lot of fun.

I think this may be my favorite so far of this season of Gallifrey audios. I got a real sense in this one of the cut and thrust of the political maneuvering here - it's quite fun to see the characters try to set political and legal traps for each other, only to discover that they've been outmaneuvered by someone who is thinking even more steps ahead.

Also, still loving the Narvin and Leela interaction this season.

So many presidential candidates and twists and turns in this one. Darkel just doesn't give up. It is lovely to see Brax back! Narvin remains brilliant. Poor Romana spends the entire time locked up (though K9 is a great legal defence). It is wonderful the way this all works out.
