The day Miranda Billings dies isn't the worst day of her life—but it's close.

Miranda is a nurse who's stuck in a passionless relationship and a dull life. The only excitement she has to look forward to is the hot EMT who flirts with her every day. She dreams of adventure and escaping her boring existence, but she has to lose everything—including her life—to find the exhilaration she craves.

When Andre, the half-demon EMT, finds the woman he loves crushed by a bus, he reawakens her soul with his magic and his blood. Now, Andre must decide if he’s willing to let her join him in his perilous quest to slay demons and save humans. He almost lost her once. Is he willing to risk losing her forever?

USA Today Bestselling Author Carrie Pulkinen has always been fascinated with things that go bump in the night. Of course, when you grow up next door to a cemetery, the dead (and the undead) are hard to ignore. Pair that with her passion for writing and her love of a good happily-ever-after, and becoming a paranormal romance author seems like the only logical career choice.

Before she decided to turn her love of the written word into a career, Carrie spent the first part of her professional life as a high school journalism and yearbook teacher. She loves red wine and chocolate, and in her free time, she likes to read, take pictures, and spend time with her family.

Miranda Billings is having a very bad day. Fist she gets terminated from her nursing job, then she gets dumped and kicked out of her house by her boyfriend, but Miranda never had time to see the last thing coming. . . even if it did run her over. Like I said, Miranda is having a bad day, and the one good thing about it was Andre, a sizzling hot EMT who thrives on saving as many lives as possible, no matter the cost.

Andre is an EMT and was attracted to Miranda Billings the moment they met. Even with her constant rejections he couldn’t keep Miranda out of his mind, until the fatal accident happened and Andre chose to use his half-demon powers to save her from death. But will Miranda be able to accept what she has become and what Andre has done for her? In the mean time, there is a demon on the loose killing innocent people and it’s up to Andre to prepare for battle and send the demon back to hell . . . and not get himself killed in the process.

Sweet Release is pure paranormal romance enjoyment. It’s not only a fun read, but ushers two lost souls to find each other in pure bliss. I loved this story, even though it was only 35 pages, it was well written and planned out, and the characters were awe-inspiring. I specifically liked the way the author, Carrie Pulkinen, created her half-demon character, Andre, using tatoo’s as a form of uniqueness. This short story would make a great series for all readers to enjoy, maybe even die for, but only if Andre was there to resuscitate me. =)

Miranda Billings was having one hell of a day. Loses her job, gets dumped and then to top it all off....she gets flattened by a bus. That might seem like the end of it for her, but sexy EMT Andre, whom had been crushing on her for some time now, brings her back to life with his handy dandy half-demon powers. Now with nothing to lose, Miranda has to make a decision. Stay on the run fighting demons with a man she barely knows whom isn't even human himself, or figure something else out. The choice seems almost too easy.

I enjoyed this story immensely. Reading this book was like being able to eat a whole box of chocolate covered cherries but only having the guilt of just one piece. It was short, but felt like I read a whole story. The passion between the two characters was amazing, leaving me a little breathless and my heart beating a bit harder. I enjoyed her descriptiveness but was a little confused sometimes as to which characters mind I was in. All in all I enjoyed what I read.

Andre is an EMT at the hospital Miranda is a nurse. Since he met Miranda she has been a distraction on his mind, and hart. Andre is half-demon/half-human; he fights demons that threatened humans. If Miranda were in his life she would be in danger.

Miranda definitely felt something for the sexy EMT, Andre. But she was determined to stay loyal to her long-term boyfriend, Daniel, even though their relationship was passionless. Actually their relationship wasn’t even platonic anymore. But she would remain loyal at least until she had enough savings to get her own place.

The old saying, “bad things come in threes” can seem provident. Miranda’s day was turning out to be a bad one. Her shift was doubled because another nurse called in sick (again). Miranda’s double-shift finally ended and about to leave when she was called into the supervisor’s office. She was caught in the budget cuts. She manages to pull herself together enough to head out of the hospital to the bus stop. Next she gets a call from Daniel; he met someone, she was locked out of their apartment, and she had no other place to go or money to even rent a room. In a daze she steps off the curb.

A call comes over the radio, a gruesome accident involving a woman being run over by a bus. If he can get to her before she dies he can save her – a side benefit of being half-demon. When he got to the accident he recognized Miranda.

Gruesome accidents do not often have survivors. What can Andre do? Does he have the magic to save her? Who is Alexia and how is she connected to Andre?

Such a wonderful, short, paranormal love story. The story may be only about 35 pages, but the characters are fully developed and I quickly felt empathy for both of them. I thoroughly enjoyed this treat.

Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

This is a super fast read, but there's a lot of story packed into that hour read time. It's well-written and the characters and story are interesting. Half-demon, Andre is seeing redemption for past deeds and his attraction to Miranda cause changes to her life that even he doesn't see coming. It's full of action, suspense, and some steamy fun. A great page-turner that's the perfect length for a lunch to bedtime read.

I am new to this author but I do love a romance involving demons and this did not let me down!
Not a long or complicated story, it was short and sweet but still fun nonetheless.
I did feel sorry for Miranda for having such a bad day, thankfully she had a happy ending. I look forward to reading more from this author!

This was a short, hot little romp. Very much an insta-love type thing, but it's really hard to make a book this short and not have it be that. I liked his demon abilities and her willingness to accept. Talk about a crappy day! That poor girl. But then it turned around and into what could be the best of her life. Who knew? Good read and quick. Recommend the read.

And I thought my luck was bad. She gets laid off, dumped by her worthless boyfriend & ran over by a bus; writing an hour. Luckily the paramedic dispatched knew her & secretly loved her. But to save her, he had to change her. Can she accept these changes?

Story is short and to the point. Action. Chemistry. Attraction. Sex. It's got it all plus paranormal tidbit. Nurse Miranda and EMT Andre sizzle. I liked it even if Miranda's life was beginning to sound depressing and very real. Definitely worth reading.

Sweet Release by Carrie Pulkinen
* I received a copy of this book from Breathless Press in exchange for an honest review*

What would you do if you had just lost your job and your boyfriend broke up with you? That's what Miranda is facing in Sweet Release. She is a nurse at a local hospital and is unsettled with her life. She is in a relationship that is boring and dull. The only highlight is when she gets to spend a few minutes a night talking to Andre the local EMT.

She didn't know what she was going to do now that she was jobless and homeless but circumstances took that decision out of her hands. Andre stepped in and literally breathed new life into her. She is now facing an exciting future, just what the Doctor ordered.

The characters have known each other for about six months and have fallen in love with each other. Andre wants her but doesn't feel like he can do anything about it because of the life he leads. He's a half demon, on the run, and trying to rid the world of evil. He doesn't want to subject her to that kind of life.

In Sweet Release, it seems the story is more about Miranda being released from the boring life she's been living to enjoy the new life Andre is able to show her. Miranda and Andre have chemistry right from the beginning. This is a short story so there isn't a lot of room for character development, instead, the author uses the story to give us clues so we can learn more about them.

This story could easily be expanded to provide us with more background on the characters and a look at the future as Miranda and Andre help rid the world of demons. Overall I enjoyed this short story and look forward to more from this author. I give Sweet Release 3 1/2 flaming hearts

May have slight spoilers.

I liked this short story, but at the same time I would have loved it if it had been longer. But as it is, I liked it.

Sweet Release is well written and has gotten good reviews since it came out in 2010.

In it we meet Miranda Billings, a nurse and she is having a terrible day, really; losing her job, her boyfriend, home, then dying.

It can’t really get much worse.

Excerpt she doesn’t die. EMT Andre whom she has been attacked to since he first got to the hospital, and he her, saves her life by giving her some of his life force. As a half-demon, giving life is not something that is unusual for him; of course most demons take instead of give; which is why those demons are after him namely his father.

His best course of action would probably be to stay away from demons altogether, but there is one loose killing and to Andre it is his job to stop them.

Miranda I thought took everything very well but since it is a short story and other reasons I can see why she did. Andre sounded very sexy; I especially loved the idea of his markings or tattoos. ;)

Altogether this was a short read with some action, and a couple very hot sex scenes. A must read for most anyone!

*I received a hardcover/paperback/eBook copy/ARC of this book for free to review from the author/publisher; this in no way influenced my review, all opinions are 100% honest and my own.

A super quick and easy read. Everyone understands a bad day, and the one that Miranda had was an extremely rough one.

The plot was quick and easy to read, making a nice short story. The romance between Miranda and Andre was hot, graphic and intense. The storyline was well written.

I enjoyed the short story although I feel that a bit more detail could have been added to the characters. I enjoyed them, and honestly wanted to know a bit more about them. In my opinion that is what dropped it from a 5 star to a 4.5. I just wanted a bit more about the characters.

Overall, I did enjoy this book and have enjoyed reading Carrie Pulkinen’s books. This is the second one I have read of hers and I will continue to read her stories.

This was a quick erotic read right from page one. Sparks fly between the two main characters Andre and Miranda. There;s a little plot to go with the intense sexual desires- Andre's demon hunting with the intent to send the vile creature back to hell. He didn't anticipating having to make Miranda a part of him in order to save her life-

I enjoyed the fast pace of this read. The sexual scenes were hot with a keen focus that really drew the reader in. If you're looking for something quick and easy to read- this is the story to pick up.

I normally don't read short stories because I tend to favor extended gratification. I received the link to download it from the author who is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Andre is a half human/half demon who is trying to atone for the lives he took in the past by now saving lives as an EMT. Miranda is a nurse whose day goes from bad to worse before she is literally hit by a bus. Andre fell in love with Miranda when he met her at the hospital. He is devastated when he arrives on the accident scene to find the victim is Miranda. The author is able to create well developed characters and an attention grabbing plot in a short story. My only complaint is that it's not long enough. I want more of this amazing authors creations in which to mentally escape.

Action packed, love, sarcasm, heroism and one gorgeous half demon. Miranda learns that you can't always judge someone by their genetics when Andre a half demon brings her back to life. Andre saves her in more ways than one from her boring life and cheating a**hole of a boyfriend. This is a must read I could not put it down.
