This series was my first introduction to Narnia and remains, in some ways, very definitive in my mind for how I perceive Narnia.

Yet another lavish production from Focus on the Family's Radio Theatre, so rich in sound that the sights, tastes, smells and feelings are as deep as any book and as real as any movie. Whether it's the yearning adventure of the Dawn Treader cutting through the crashing waves, the heart-twisting fear of the Isle of Dreams, or the beautiful and powerful voice of Aslan bringing redemption to all He touches, this audio drama delivers. It is magic.

The real highlight for me in this particular installment are the voices of Eustace and Scrubb. They are brilliant and absolutely hilarious. Perfectly capturing the soul of each character.

Listen to it and enter into the adventure. It's almost like walking through a wardrobe door.

Possibly my favorite chapter in the Narnia series. I always adored Caspian, and I find Eustace's journey to be a stellar story.

Oh my god this might be my favourite one of them all, though Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe still holds a special place in my heart. I find this so interesting because I think this is such a mark of great character writing because Eustance was one of the biggest c**** I've ever seen but his growth was so great and holistic that I couldn't help but really love him by the end. The ending was also just TT so ethereal and beautiful and serene and really reminded me of the atmosphere the Starless Sea had and just wow. I know I'm gonna be thinking about this one for a while.

Perhaps one of my favorites in the series-so many adventures! The ardor of Reepicheep moves and inspires me every time: “While I can, I sail east in the Dawn Treader. When she fails me, I paddle east in my coracle. When she sinks, I shall swim east with my four paws. And when I can swim no longer, if I have not reached Aslan's country, or shot over the edge of the world into some vast cataract, I shall sink with my nose to the sunrise.”

I usually say this one is my favorite of the Narnia Chronicles. The scene with Eustace and Aslan is one of the most poignant scenes in literature. I also love Reepicheap. He is one of my favorite characters in all of Narnia!

Term 2 Book 2 Goodreads Review
The Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C.S. Lewis
Lexile Level: 970L
I read The Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C.S. Lewis. The main characters are Lucy, Edmund, Eustace, Caspian, and Aslan the Lion. The setting is Prince Caspian’s ship the Dawn Treader as they sail the seas and visit islands. They are on a quest to find the seven lost Lords of Narnia. Along the journey they find a dragon cave. Eustace sleeps on the dragon’s gold with greedy intentions and turns into a dragon. As a dragon, Eustace helps Prince Caspian kill a wild boar, scouts a dangerous island, and so Aslin turns Eustace back into a human.
A theme of the book is if you help each other (if even you don’t like each other) you can do a lot. Prince Caspian and Eustace do not like each other. However, after Eustace turns into a dragon, they have to help each other. The group was camping on an island and getting supplies. A wild boar came out and the dragon killed the boar with his tail. He saved the group and gave them a wild boar to eat for dinner. They needed to explore the island to see if they could find one of the lost Lords, so Eustace the dragon flew over the island to explore for them so they could be done faster. After helping so much, Aslin turned Eustace back into a human by clawing off all the dragon scales. After that experience, Eustace was more nice and did his share of the work on the ship to help out.
I liked the book because the fantasy world of the book seems like it could actually happen. It is just like this world only it has magic in it. The island of night was a place that dreams do come true was really interesting. Aslin’s country has white fog and is really mysterious. It is an imagination kind of place.

Although I can't remember exactly how many times I listened to Focus On the Family Radio Theatre versions of "The Chronicles of Narnia" stories while I was growing up, I do remember my whole family greatly enjoyed them every time. Each book is adapted into a marvelous, beautiful experience containing great narration, voice acting, and sound effects. The introductions by Lewis's stepson are also pretty cool. I need to listen to these adaptions again...

(Note: I don't agree with how they numbered their versions stories, but maybe that's just me... and my dad, who actually reordered them in our collection and wrote over the numbering. The Magician's Nephew and The Horse and His Boy do take place chronologically before other stories, but in the reading order they were not meant to be numbers 1 and 3.)

I've a hard time ranking Narnia stories. I have my favorites and then my very favorites, and then my most favorites. (I have one that's kinda in the not so favorite category, but even that has multiple redeeming qualities, so 🤷‍♀️) Voyage of the Dawn Treader falls into the very, almost most, favorites category. 💜 In particular, I love Aslan's appearances throughout. His role in this book is "small" ... Only a tiny handful of scenes. And yet, the entire book is spent trying to reach his country. And the truths he speaks each time he enters are truths for life.

We're raising our kids on Narnia ... somehow I think Aslan's words will ring true: "I've brought you to this world so that by knowing me for a little while here, you might know me better in your own world."

Radio Theatre did an exceptional job with all seven of these productions. It's a treasure well worth investing in.

Suitable for children ages about 9 - 14, a magical, fantasy voyage on a mission to find some 'Lords' on various fictional islands in strange circumstances. Very dated English language like "oh do, lets', 'I say... ' bad men called 'blighters', bad things, 'Blasted boat.' True classics may have challenging vernacular, but are never dated in this way. Descriptions of scenes have a magical quality that would probably appeal to children. True to C S Lewis adult capitulation to religion having been an atheist until some time in his 30s, it has an heavy-handed saviour figure and all the illusory promises that accompany such. While Odysseus is mentioned in passing, there is no real intertextuality with other great voyage narratives.

So, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader from Radio Theatre's Chronicles of Narnia series? I'd give it a 3 out of 5, but it's not my top pick. Here's the thing:
It feels a bit like déjà vu. Sure, the story is there, but it doesn't offer much new compared to the original text. Lucy, Edmund, and Eustace's adventure on the Dawn Treader is still there, but it lacks the depth and detail that made the book so captivating. It's not a bad adaptation, but it doesn't quite capture the magic of the original. If you're a die-hard Narnia fan looking for a different way to experience the story, it might be worth a read, but don't expect it to surpass the book.
Im sorry I just like the other story better.

This was a neat way to listen to a book. It was like listening to a play. There were sound effects and different actors playing the roles. This was one of my favorite Chronicles of Narnia books. I recently watched the movie again, which helped me follow along with what was happening. Eustace wasn't quite as annoying in the book as he was in the movie, at least not to me, so that helped. It was interesting that at the end of the book, we are told that C.S. Lewis had originally meant for this book to be the last in the series, that's why it seems to wrap everything up so well, but then he ended up writing two more books in the series.

We have been making our way through this series in the car as we drive around. I just love how Radio Theatre is the bridge between film and audio books and makes the story come alive for the whole family. This one is a favorite of mine – I love the transformation of Eustice and all the adventures on the islands. I teared up (again) at the end when Aslan tells Edmond and Lucy that they will know him in their world by a different name and they would see him again.

The Voyage Of The Dawn Trader seru banget! That's why aku berani kasih nilai 5 dari 5.
Buku ke-6, gak sabar baca!

Wonderfully presented and acted. This has been a decades old family friend, especially for our young friends who cannot read yet but want the independence of going to "read" when they want to.... just pop it in to listen and voila!

It was boring, cheesy and corny. I think the author managed The Horse And His Boy and thus exhausted his creative talent.
