Moonlight Lovers #4

Moonlight Temptation

Rate this book
Her magic is so powerful, she’ll need two men to help her control it…

Evie Simmons has magical powers she can’t control, she’s living in a community of witches, and her best friend is a seventeen-year-old werewolf. It’d be hilarious if it weren’t just so damn depressing. Add in the sexy shifter she can’t keep out of her mind and his hot-as-hell friend and it’s a recipe for disaster.

Dr. Dane Dimitriou knows Evie is having a hard time adjusting to her new life as part of the Etruscan magical community—almost as difficult as his denial of his feelings for her have been. But Dane has the perfect solution—introduce her to his best friend, Ryan Maguire. Easygoing Ryan is the complete opposite of stick-up-his-ass Dane. Ryan can act as a buffer and Dane can get close…but not too close.

Together, these sexy men may be just what the doctor ordered for Evie. And the doctor himself may discover the cure for what ails him has been right in front of him all along.

No one does hot better then Stephanie Julian! I really enjoyed this fourth installment of the Lucani Lovers. While I read book 1 in this series, Kiss of Moonlight I did not read books 2 and 3. While reading the others would have helped a little, this can definitely be read as a stand alone book. Past relationships and story lines are explained really well without interfering with the one being told in Moonlight Temptation.

Evie Simmons has gone through a lot in her 23 years. She's overcome drug addiction, discovered that witches existed and that she was one of them and had powers of her own. She also found out that werewolves were real, and was kidnapped by a scientist who ran tests without her permission on her blood to try to save her dying son, Alex. I enjoyed watching Evie struggle from being shy and unsure of herself, her powers and her feelings for Ryan and Dane into someone who was strong and believed in herself.

The menage scenes were super hot, but what I enjoyed most were watching the struggles that Evie, Ryan and Dane went through to make the relationship work. The three have a completely different dynamic around each other. Dane is quiet around Evie, and Ryan immediately gets that it's because he likes her. Evie is immediately comfortable around Ryan, but still shy around Dane. At first I had a hard time figuring out why Evie was so much more comfortable around Ryan then Dane, but realized that it was probably because he hadn't seen her powers go all out of whack like Dane had. Ryan wasn't afraid to tell Dane that he was being an idiot around Evie, and loved seeing how honest their friendship was.

What I also liked is while past characters made appearances in the novella, they didn't take over the entire story as what happens in so many series. There appearance was just enough to cover what happened in past books and why the story line was where it was at. I am really looking forward to Cat and Ty's story, and I can't help but wonder if the King will get his own story as well.

I've discovered that with novellas, I'm always left wanting more of character relationships. For instance, I'd like to know why Dane went from avoiding Evie to finally helping her out, but novellas are short and I've come to expect that not everything will be answered, and I'm ok with that. :) I just can't wait to go back and read books two and three of this series and for the next one to come out.

Favorite Quote:
He didn’t overreact. Most people who knew him complained that he reacted like a robot most of the time. No emotions, no feelings. Steady as a rock. Dangerous. The woman was fucking dangerous to his sanity. He took a deep breath. Then another.

Dee's review
Evie is a survivor. Now she faces the challenge of controlling her powers, but her biggest challenge is excepting what two gorgeous alpha males want to give her, themselves.

Dane is a control freak, know it all and he is completely in love with Evie. However, Dane feels his dark, rough and sexy personality is not all Evie needs. Ryan is fun, easy going and sexy as hell. Dane knows his best friend has the rest of what Evie needs. Together they make the play to have Evie for themselves, forever.

I found this novella HOT! It was to short though, I needed more. The story line was excellent and the romance was sigh worthy. However, I find Evie very selfish for keeping both men for herself. Lol!

FYI: There is some explicit m/f/m action that may cause excessive sweating. ;-)

I'm totally hooked on the Lucani Lovers series and I was very intrigued how Evie's book would be like. When we met her in the previous books she was always the vulnerable girl- the one with the bad past that everyone tried to handle with care- it was interesting to see how she experienced all this.

Evie is stronger than everyone believes and she hates that they all underestimate her. She wants to get the acceptance she deserves and she works hard to earn it even though sometimes it seems to be impossible. In the previous books I imagined Evie younger than she felt in Moonlight Temptation. She grew up and I really liked how she matured and started to take responsibility for her actions.

Ryan is a new character and oh my goodness is he hawt. I loved how easy going he is- he's one of those positive thinkers. He's not reckless but he tries to enjoy life at its fullest. At some points his "shrink" skills amazed me- he sees bullshits and calls you out on it. I love this kind of honesty. He was a great contrast to Dane who always seems to worry about what the world or better said his family thinks about him. He's so scared to disappoint them that he keeps himself from what he really wants. I loved the duality we got from those two men.

These three together put the pages on fire- their mutual attraction is breathtaking and as always I'm surprised how some authors can make me believe in this whole threesome thing- even when it's only for the duration of a book. *wink*

I enjoyed how much Julian includes her sidecast. All her characters are shown in such great detail that you just can't ignore them. Cat really intrigued me and I can't wait to see how her HEA will work out. The story itself was captivating and I couldn't put this one down. The plot itself takes a new turn in this book and I'm already breathlessly awaiting the next book.

Moonlight Temptation is a wonderful extra hot addition to the Lucani Lovers Series. It seems I love everything Julian keeps dashing at us. I'm sure I won't miss the next one.

I found an unexpected surprise in Moonlight Temptation. It’s a ménage! I have no clue on how I did not pick up on that prior to diving in to this spicy novella. There’s one gal and two guys on the cover, I guess I’m ding-bat Diva. None the less I had no clue until Ryan approaches Evie and informs her that he is there to seduce her. Yes he is bold, hot, a doctor, hot, and has zero issues with telling Evie exactly what is on his mind at any given moment. There are so many things to love about Ryan.

Ryan is also the necessary element in this trio that brings Dane fully into the relationship. Dane knows he wants Evie sexually. He is otherwise having some issues with everything else Evie. Dane has much to stress over as the lucani doctor. He not only treats the community’s injuries, but he is trying find a couple of disease cures as well. There is also an issue concerning a stick, Ryan points the problem out regularly and it is apparently a familial trait.

I loved that Ryan and Dane are total opposites. This gives Evie two very different men in her life, at the same time. Dane and Ryan have been best friends for numerous years. They have shared lovers before, but always for just one night. Ryan and Dane know that they can’t have Evie just once. Ryan and Dane’s close brotherly friendship helps them push the other in the direction of keeping Evie theirs. They know what makes the other tick. Reading Dane and Ryan pointing out what they need to do for the best interest in Evie, very enjoyable. Evie made them open their eyes to see that what was best for them was best for her.

I have to agree with the other reviewers on a few points on this book. First of all, I did really enjoy it. I like this series and its an intriguing world the author has built for us.

I thought Dane and Ryan were a delicious combination of Tender and Fierce. Evie was a perfect match for both of them. She did tend to give in to them rather easily though. And I also agree that Dane's reluctance, a huge obstacle throughout the story yet never really addressed or explained in detail, was kind of frustrating.

It was a short story and I would have loved to read more. It almost felt like an arc story to tie the last book and the next one together. Still, I really enjoy this author's work and look forward to the next one. Who will it be? Perhaps Grace?.... Cat seems a little young yet to have a story...

Evie is fairly new to the Etruscan & Lucani communities. She also recently learned that magic is very real and that she herself is a Etruscan witch. Since she is having trouble controlling her powers the other witches are trying to teach her as fast as possible. It could be they are trying to drive her crazy. When Dane & Ryan enter the picture (issues aside) - they aim to drive her crazy in other ways.

Moonlight Temptation is a delicious romp. Evie's lack of magic control and the mouth-watering Lucani mates make for one hot, engaging story. This is the fourth installment in the series and I have to say it's still going strong. Each story keeps me coming back for more. Ms. Julian aims high and hits the mark every time.

I've loved this book. Evie after everything she's been through deserved her happy ever after. Dane pissed me off a bit but I came to love him. Ryan I loved right away. He was perfect for Evie. Now of course I'm dying for the next one. Also forgot to add I liked the little bits of the author's real life in the book. Junior mints yummy :)

Temptation in Moonlight

Wow I hate that poor little Alex got taken by his evil father. Grace should have told them who he was for them to better protect him, or maybe it still wouldn't have mattered. I'm glad Dane and Ryan got their shit together and claimed Evie as theirs.

Evie has been through a lot. From being kidnapped and terrorized to discovering she is a witch; Evie is now living in a borrowed house with a 17 year old werewolf who is trying to help her control her powers and being pursued by two sexy men. Could things be worse?
Dr. Dane Dimitriou knows Evie is having problems adjusting. So is he. He wants her badly but feels his aggressive personality is not what she needs. So he calls in his best friend, sexy easy going Ryan, to help Evie become more comfortable with her new life.
So who will Evie chose? Or will she have to chose at all?

Stephanie Julian writes some very steamy erotica featuring very smexy shifters. Yum. Her books are mainly themed for ménages. The sex scenes in here are great. Very physical and descriptive. But that’s all it was. Sex. I never felt a true romantic or emotional connection between our protagonists like I did in past books. It happens so fast. It felt forced and coercive. Dane and Ryan have the attitude that they know best. I didn’t buy it. Evie meets Ryan and within 6 hours they are going at it. She knows nothing about him. Within two days her, Dane, and Ryan are having a ménage. By the end of the week, they are all in love and ready to settle down and live happily ever after.

Huh?

Dane has done nothing but avoided her for months, and she never asks why. That was a problem. We never really get her opinion beyond that they are good looking sexy men and she feels a little uptight being attracted to both of them. She really had attitude in the previous book- Edge Of Moonlight. But in here she just seems to agree with everything they say. She lays down and allows them to do it all for her. We are getting together. Okay. Your going to do this. Okay. The one time she does try to back off, all they have to do is kiss her and she goes back to being their “okay” girl.
I also had a problem with Dane. He starts out in a devious manner and I just couldn’t warm up to him. I never fully understood why he has such a problem relating to Evie or vocalizing what he wants. It’s as if he feels he can’t take the “no” so he maneuvers around it to make sure it doesn’t happen. It felt seedy. I could accept Ryan a little better, though he too seemed to think more with “little Ryan” then anything else.

I wish we could have divulged a little more into Evie’s magical problems. Once she gets into this relationship everything seemed to correct itself automatically. It is too easy a fix for the build up we were given about Evie and her dangerous powers in the beginning here and the previous book.
We do get some arc development in a few small sub stories, but not as much as I expected. Some old faces are in here that pleasantly surprised me. Cat and her elusive Ty. Evie’s brother John and his mate Kaine. We are introduced to a new character towards the end that spells out a possible and very interesting romantic interlude down the line.

While this gets a solid B for smexiness, that’s all we get and I felt the plot and arc suffered for that.

And I was also given this book from the author to review for my honest thoughts!

So here we go...

For those of you that know me... and those that don't this is my little statement about short books.... I do not judge short stories on the rush of their relationships, because they are just that - short stories. So, yes the relationships always could have been drawn out more, yea it seems like they fall in love to fast and of course the story could have been made longer... but it is a short story. So with that said.... here is my review...

Oh wow.... Oh wow... This is one fire explosive story. Ms. Julian did it yet again with another hot story. She has a way with her craft and she uses it well. This woman has wrapped me up in a story that I hope will not stop. She allows terminology to flow through the book (so you are not stopping to check out what that means) and she treats us to characters of the past and invites new ones into the world of the Lucani family.

Evie has a seriously crappy past... We met her in the past books; but you won't be left out if you did not read them. (That is another great job by Ms. Julian ~ never leaves you feeling like you are missing something) Evie has a heart the size of Texas. Okay, as long as you get my point there. Evie was kidnapped and used for her blood. Yes, you read that right... they syphoned blood from her and was basically keeping her alive to produce her blood. Her blood is the secret ingredient to one little boy's life. But once freed, you would think that she would want nothing to do with the little boy or his mother (the one that kidnapped her). But... That is where Evie will surprise you... Now, there is another matter at hand... Her heart and her powers...

Will Evie's heart allow her to accept what two people are willing to give her or will her uncertainty over her powers cause her to go up in smoke?

Dane has one major stick up his ass... And sometimes all it takes is his best friend Ryan to remind him to pull out and stop acting like the ass Ryan's knows him not to be. Dane is set on finding a cure for the disease that seems to be plaguing the Lucanis. The same disease that took his father from him. But what will it cost him? When all else fails, he ask his best friend to step in for him and help him out... But what if what Ryan wants threatens to consume the both of them to the fiery pits of Evie?

This is one story that heat up your sheets and catch your heart ablaze! This book will leave you hot and possibly other things you might not want me to mention and for sure... she will leave you drooling over the hot alpha males and their best friend... And she will definitely leave you hanging on to what is to come in the future. Awesome job Ms. Julian!!!
