Biography from Harlequin Romance #2489 The Golden Spaniard
"When one happens to be an unmarried woman of forty-five and apparently fixed for the rest of her working life in a safe and settled job," Rebecca Stratton says of herself, "it is apt to be regarded as bordering on the insane to suddenly give it all up and become a full-time writer."
But that is precisely what British-born and -bred Rebecca did one August day in 1967. Writing had always been her ultimate aim, and she felt that if she didn't make the move right then and there she'd end her days as "one more elderly lady sighing for what might have been."
When Rebecca Stratton's first attempt at a romance novel was accepted, she didn't know whether to laugh or to cry. So she did both. Then she celebrated with friends and relatives. And then sat down to the job of writing more books - and reveled in it!
I would have fired the h if I had been her employer. The h is nanny to a 6 year old boy and she has brought him to Greece to be with his mother's family. On her first morning there she lets a man she knows is engaged flirt with her and kiss her fingers at the breakfast table in the presence of his fiance. She is remonstrated about her behavior by the man's older brother. She puffs up and takes off with the kid trailing behind. They walk for a good ways and come to an olive orchard where the nanny complains of being tired and sits down for a rest. The little boy of course has no intention of resting so she lets him play nearby. She closes her eyes for a moment and then wakes up an unspecified time later and discovers he is missing. She panics and starts running around frantically looking for him and her employer (the older brother) drives up and takes control. She seemed to be a weak willed woman with no common sense. I surely wouldn't trust her with a child.
Boring. The fact that I never got to know more about the heroins background or her age made it hard for me to connect to her as a character. Didn't feel the connection between the H and h either. Skipped a lot of pages involving the drama with the secondary characters.
It really didn't have any story H was secretive about his feelings and expects h to learn it magically I hated how the sexual harassment by the brother is overlooked and something she should understand as she is pretty ,ridiculous it was! So was the slap by the wife of another brother. h was ok. boring.
