Rate this book
Updated edition found here.

Every faery is born with a gift. Every gift is used for the good of fae existence, but when a troublesome faery is blessed with the greatest of abilities, the outcome doesn’t look so promising.

Nahtaia is a mischievous, Jaydürian faery with one of the greatest of gifts; distortion. After accidentally turning a human boy into faery size, her powers are immediately seized by the Jaydürian Voices and banishment is a likely punishment. Luckily, the Minister of Fae Assignment is unaware of her mistake.
With the help of a pine faery named Oren, Nahtaia must find a way to change the human back to his natural state and regain her abilities, all while keeping hidden from the keen eyes of the Ministers of the faery realm lest she be stripped of her wings and doomed to a life without the one thing she loves most; magic.

Whoa, WHOA now! You want my bio? Shouldn't you start with a hello, at least?

Ok, fine. I'll be gracious.

I'll even give you an updated version.
I'm best known for my book Nahtaia: A Jaydürian Adventure, which boasts a whopping 3.7 million online reads. Born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, I moved to the east coast where I run a life coaching business and am hard at work on my next book in The Chronicles of Jaydür. When I'm not writing, I'm educating my horde of goblins in the ways of Middle Earth and Narnia along with my better half, Joshua Robertson.

Check me out at my website, or on Facebook, or on Twitter. I promise I'm just as interesting and likely to make you feel uncomfortable there as I am here!

This was an awesome Faery Fairy Tale that I read for free on the Wattpad website!

The story is about a moon fairy named Nahtaia who is infatuated and curious with the humans that she takes every chance she gets to secretly observe them. When she is followed by the pine fairy Oren towards the farm house where she has been masquerading as a human, she is captured by one of them and in revenge she shrinks one of them. Will her folly make her lose her wings and banish her from the land of the fairies? Read this story for yourself and find out.

I enjoyed this story. If you like tales about fairies, you will enjoy this story. Definitely check it out here: http://www.wattpad.com/568899-nahtaia...

For a story that started off as a sort of teaser to Lilian Oake's upcoming release Jaydurian, it pretty much manifested into a stand-alone book. The tale itself kept me riveted as the lead character wended her way through many adventures, mishaps, and revelations. The interaction between the lead, Nahtaia, and those around her were convincing and entertaining that I found myself rooting for each of them. While the story of Nahtaia is unedited and 'raw', don't let this deter you from giving it a read. Once you start, you can't stop since the story takes over and minor things like a typo here or a 'could have been re-written' there gets pushed aside as you just want to know what happens next. I was a smidgen disappointed in the end since I found it ended all too quickly and left a few things hanging in the air. (Perhaps I didn't want the story to end and wanted to just keep reading more about Nahtaia). But Oake has assured us in the final note that all will be explained shortly...I await in patience.

After a very long 12 hour shift at work I have finally completed this book!! I've been reading it the past couple of days while on breaks at work. And can I say. I love this book. It did take me a minute to get into. But I seriously just soaked in the tub for an hour and a half because I was so into the story I couldn't get out of the tub. So thank you Lilian Oake for writing a great story. Can't wait to get more of your books.

Nahtaia by Lilian Oake

Reviewed by Angi

This past week I had the great fortune of going to Wizard World Philly. I met so many amazing people and had such a wonderful time.

I met many authors and added plenty of books to my TBR list.

One of those authors was Lilian Oake. Both she and her husband were there and I had a wonderful time learning about their amazing worlds they create for us. I had seen their books before but had not ventured into them yet. I purchased one from each to test the waters before diving full in. I had a hard time choosing which to start. I settled on a fairy story. Well, let's be honest those who know me know I'm going with the fairy wings. That and I love a snarky strong female character, and I was promised a lot of snark.  (And snark was delivered)

So that's how I ended up reading this in one sitting. I mean a 3 hour didn't even turn the tv on for background noise page turning till the very end.

This book is so FUN! It was fast and exciting! There was action,  adventure, and humor. The characters are so well written and thought out that I could picture them as I was reading.  I wanted to join in on the adventure.

There is a bit of a love triangle and though it's very important for where the story is going it's not in your face obnoxious. I found myself unable to pick which I was rooting for. Then just when you think you got it the story will take an unexpected turn.

This is a great story for all ages.  It's good clean fun and exciting. If my son was still young this would be a book we could have read together and both enjoyed it.  So whether you're looking for yourself or looking to get your young one into reading this is the story for you.

Absolutely worth the one click!

Love. Love. Love it.
Love the quest. Adore the characters. Enchanted by the story. Laughed out loud several times and smiled my way through the entire book. I like feisty main characters and this book has three of them. Easily the most feel good book I read this year. I would recommend this book to anyone from 8-80.

5 stars and 5 hearts. Adorbs.

Did Not Finish
June 19, 2013
I get nitpicky. This is well-known to anyone who's had the misfortune to ask me to edit for her: the devil's in the details. A story has to work really hard to convince me not to nitpick, to leave something alone as a style decision, and some decisions will never have that excuse.

Part of why I pick is because I write, too. I haven't published yet; I'm slow, ponderous, and so critical of my own work that I will give it up midstream if I realise it's terrible. God forbid anyone who doesn't know me should read it! So it's in the spirit of fellowship and edification that I say to Ms Ilinca:

Get an editor. Get a mentor. Learn to walk before you decide to run.

I made it through maybe eight pages of Nahtaia, distracted the entire time by the kind of errors I have seen in amateurs (and please remember that "amateur" does mean "lover of", not merely "beginner at"). It's clear Ilinca's got story in her, plenty of it, and would be amazing to hear around a campfire. Nahtaia as a character is young and does cringeworthy things because of it, so I want to see her grow up, but the writing does not support the story enough to make me continue reading.

I caught mistakes that were (only metaphorically) beaten out of me during the time I spent under the tutelage of three far better writers, one online, two off. All told, I had a good five years of apprenticeship, and many more of learning by reading great writing, before I could consider elevating myself to journeyman status. I developed peer relationships with these writers, and one of them is now my go-to "is this crap?" person, provided her own life is not chaos at the moment.

I imagine Ilinca would benefit from similar arrangements. Subtle though it seems, there's a tense difference between "had seen" and "saw"; if you've ever taken a foreign language course, perhaps you are aware of it. In context, this tense difference sets some action in the story's past and some in the story's present, no matter what tense the author employs. There are also basic ideas about starting and ending sentences that should be considered. Take this example.

"Nahtaia, I called you here for a reason. It seems we're running out of-"

"-it wasn't my fault!"

As it stands, this transition implies she's finishing his thought, not interjecting her own. A simple change to "It wasn't my fault!" alters the meaning of the second sentence; we are no longer running out of something called "it wasn't my fault". We are now hearing Nahtaia say she's not responsible.

The decision to call mushrooms "shrooms" is also painful, as "shrooms" is already slang for a psychedelic substance -- bringing me to another point. Language. If a world is not our own, it needs a good reason to share our language. Obviously Nahtaia's world does not share our language entirely, though it appears to incorporate elements of our mythology (minotaurs?). Moriel, whose name incidentally connotes an angelic or heavenly connection, refers to "Lord in Heaven" when he's upset. Is he Christian? Has Christianity influenced these faeries? And whence, in that case, "Nahtaia"? Must it be pronounced according to English language standards? (The nickname "Nahty" implies that the first sound is "nau".) If we are in our world, where are we that the name Terralyn ("Terry") is as common as Kale and Willeim?

Worldbuilding is important. I am doing it myself right now and it can be frustrating. The temptation just to plunk everyone down in a pseudo-Europe-America-wherever place is strong. But in defining my own Westraal as a continent south of the equator, with regions having distinct linguistic influences, I find the writing grows stronger. My best friends are Wikipedia, the Academy of St. Gabriel's Medieval Names Archive, and an online etymology compendium -- I don't have to call a neighborhood a neighborhood if there's a more distinctly Viridien or Westraali name for it. I don't have to call a mushroom a mushroom, or a shroom.

But I can call an amateur an amateur, and I know from amateurs. I don't forget that I was one. I am not trying to shame anyone. Like I said, the story's cute and curious. It just needs more time to bake before it's a novel(la), and the writer might benefit from a mentor or a class or two. Writers need other writers because we love our work and we don't like admitting its faults, but if we shove our work out there without correcting its flaws, what does that do to the body of literature as a whole?

Nahtaia is a beautifully written tale of a quest about discovering your inner self with a Furngully feel that keeps you turning pages.

I really enjoyed this book. It has a bit of a love-triangle going on, but not as deep as you think, and not as typical as most. This is a really great story which I thoroughly enjoyed. The characters are wonderfully done, and the humor is a fantastic touch. This is a perfect novel for late elementary school kids and up.

If you love action, adventure, comedy & a little romance, here's a book for you. If you love being swept away into the story, here is the author for you. Diana Ilinca has the gift of making you "feel" like you're part of her stories due to her detailed descriptions & believable dialogue. This story is about Nahatia, a fairy, who is sometimes a little too curious for her own good. You will join her & her friends on her journey to also discover herself. It's a truly fun read and adventure.

I took a week and read Nahtaia a little bit at a time. I am impressed with Diana's skills as an author and a creator of fantasy. She is clearly well versed in the genre and you can tell she loves it. I believe we will be seeing a lot more for her in the future, and I expect it will be all fantastic.

This was a great read. Nahtaia's adventure was enjoyable and entertaining. There were so many scenes that I loved and reread several times. It was well worth the time! Though it's available to read for free, I wouldn't hesitate to purchase it for my kindle or in hardcover/paperback and add it to my library.

I ripped through this book, charmed with every adventure that Nahtaia took part in. I loved her feisty personality! The world is populated by magical creatures and humans, and seeing their worlds interact was fun as well. I would love to spend more time in this world, and will eagerly snap up other tales written by Oake.

I have finished reading Nahtaia: A Jaydurian Adventure, and I can honestly say that it stole a piece of my life (I mean that in a good way). Fun characters, great story and a thoroughly enjoyable adventure. I am currently reading it to my kids as part of our bedtime routine and they love it!
You are now among my must-read authors, Alongside names like Elizabeth Moon, Terry Goodkind, and R.A. Salvatore.
