The theatre music season continues with a recent recording of Kurt Weill's 'Broadway Opera' Street Scene which tells a gritty story of life, love, birth and death in a squalid 1940s Manhattan tenement. Presented by Jonathan Swain.

When I first heard that we were putting on this show this past year, I was not particularly thrilled. My first opinion was that the music sounded borderline demonic. However, after working on this musical-opera hybrid and the role of Greta Fiorentino, I have developed a soft spot for Weill's contribution to the Broadway stage. I don't like how this particular score is laid out - for example, the table of contents doesn't list every number. However it is complete with dialogue, so it is a useful tool for any singer working on this show.
