This is a very involved graphic novel.Much like the book this is a sequel of. I would not recommend someone read this without first reading the first part of this tale. This is so involved that a new reader would get lost, as much is unexplained and there is so much complication.

This book is an astounding example of fitting what would be a 1000 page book into graphic novel form in around 50 pages. This tale involves a master villain, people zapped into statues, using & developing methods to unzap and zap, travel to help those zapped, then further travel to stop the villain, more travel to stop villain, a twist and another trip ... It's all nearly exhausting.

The artwork is as erratic as the first volume and a little tough to make out at times. This is a problem with so much going on. The lettering is better than the first volume, but not as readable as it could be. Further trouble with getting through the volume.

The plotting was clearly a chore and the end result is quite something.

Bottom line: I recommend this book. 7 out of ten points.

Houba! Dziii!

This is a 1976 hardback reprint in French from Dupuis. Originally serialised in 1960 and published in book form in 1962, this is the second part of the story begun in “Z Comme Zorglub”.

Being the second round of the battle against Zorglub, this is much the same as the previous episode and somewhat less inventive as well as less engaging. There’s a good intro, in an unusual dystopian style, as the lads clear up the chaos caused by the last zorglhomme. Then there’s a good satire of brain washing by publicity. The story ends with a twist, as Zorglub has somehow taken on Zantafio as a lieutenant, a true villain with no conscience.

The story ends on a cliffhanger: Zorglub had been hit by Zantafio, using a weapon Zorglub created and only he understands. Can Zorglub ever be cured?

A good read but no match for the first half of the two-parter.

adventures of fantasio and spirou must be held up with the big names of its genre (which can be said as iconic comic book characters of northern europe) - it is still a mystery how the author’s of such series manage to offer hundreds of stories about the same couple of characters and how they’ve built an immersive fictional world around them. in this particular story I genuinely love how the story goes on from one to another and how they connected where we discovered the hideout of the “great” Zorglub which lead us to an action packed ending. i do feel lucky of having this issue’s copy in my collection cause i specifically love the cover (and the story as well)

This wonderful sequel to Z is for Zorglub is the story of how the drug Zorglub had taken wears off, and he becomes his former self. Spirou, Fantasio, and Champignanc follow him to the last of his secret bases in a desperate effort to stop him fulfilling his darkest plans with a lot of Zorgl-wave induced soap and toothpaste buying along the way. A great book for all ages.

Franquin was a gifted all-rounder, combining a talent for absurdity and silliness with globe-trotting adventure, and lots of humour. Memorable characters, bizarre creatures, strange situations and odd places abound in tales he both wrote and illustrated.

In this book our two heroes return from the successful conclusion of their previous adventure to find a rogue agent still at large, freezing townsfolk into living statues. What’s clear is that the danger is far from passed, made worse by Zorglub’s bold return. A trip to the nation of Palombia is on the cards to right this wrong once and for all.

Franquin always seems to be having a lot of fun with his creations, investing plenty of exagerated exhuberance and farcical set pieces to push the story along. Like many comic creators of the time working on both sides of the Channel there’s a rich abundence of finely crafted content that’s seldom seen these days, so even though you’re highly unlikely to have read these tales before there’s still an odd sense of nostalgia for when comics were done differently.

And don’t be put off by this being book 15. You can start pretty much anywhere and still enjoy the self-contained tales, and that will then simply open the door to hours and hours of fulfilling reading. Go on, treat yourself.

This follow-up album shows Spirou, Fantasio and the Count de Champaignac returning home from their latest adventure, and coping with the chaos of the villainous Zorglub's Zorgulwave and his hypnotized servants, the Zorgulmen. Their efforts will lead them to an economically troubled Republic of Palombia, where they must thwart a wicked scheme that is deeper than it looks.

Having not read the preceding album in this story, I did feel a bit wrong-footed and thrown in at the start of this book, but on the whole, this was an enjoyable adventure: albeit not the best one I've read. I also wouldn't reccomend this album to a series newcomer, as you may struggle to understand the characters and their motives without that previous familiarity.

Still, having a snarky, back-sassing version of Spip the squirrel is always a delight, and his interactions with the Marsupilami are adorable: someone give these two their own album already! The twist "reveal" towards the album's end was clever too, although I would have liked to see more of the revealed character in question.

In short, this is a fun little story with some lovely artwork and a wacky sci-fi premise, but sadly not my favourite Spirou album.

Cute follow up of the previous Zorglub episode, whcih I unfortunately do not own. One of the few in this collection...

It deals with a special squirting machine that renders humans living statures, and back in Pacombie, the South American country, there is a whole army of Zorglub men getting ready to sell soap and toothpaste in order to make their master a rich man. Unfortunaltelly this master does not forsee the consequences of his actions and lets Zantafio take over and soon rule the country... Monkey wrench? The Count of Champignac, Fantasio, Spirou, Spip and Marsupiliami!

Hyvä tämäkin oli, todella hyvä. Komiaa taidetta, hyvin piirrettyä tekniikkaa ja hauska tarina. Loistavuutta.
