Grave Consequences is book two in the Grand Tour series and at least the eighth book of Lisa Bergren's I've read. Having loved Glamorous Illusions (book one), I was anxious to dive into Grave Consequences and continue the "Grand Tour" journey!

I loved the main characters in Grave Consequences SO much. My favorite is Will - I couldn't help caring about him and what would happen in his life. Lisa Bergren just has a way of drawing the reader into the story and connecting with the characters. Cora was also a favorite and I loved seeing her grow throughout this book.

I liked the history that was in Grave Consequences and the locations in this novel were great - some of the descriptions were just so breathtaking!

Overall, I loved Grave Consequences! The ending was fantastic and I can hardly wait to continue Cora's journey in book three, Glittering Promises, which is set to release this coming October. I recommend Grave Consequences if you enjoy books with romance, intrigue, and a little history. Be sure to read Glamorous Illusions before this one as this is a series best read in order.

*I received this book for free for my review. I was not required to give a positive review, only my honest opinion - which I've done. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.*

This installment of the Grand Tour series started out a bit slow, but when it got going, BOY it got going. I think the suspense of the novel drew me in more than the romance. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next.

Really enjoyed this! There were a lot of great settings like Austria and Italy. That's where this series really shines I think - in the setting and historical details. It's rich in both.

Great second book. Romantic, adventurous, far away places (for me anyway) great characers. Loved the love triangle, wasn't too much. I took off 1/2 a star because there was a lot of history talk. I'm not a history buff/fan, and it got a little too much in spots for me, but not horrible. Overall great read, and can't wait for the next one.

Moral Note: Clean romance, clean language, some social drinking, and talk about drunk men, mild violence from a drunk man, mild smoking usage.

This is book 2 of the Grand Tour series and it was as good as the first. This isn't my favorite series but one I did enjoy even if I didn't love it. The locations were my favorite aspect of the series and the biggest reason why I wanted to read them. Settings like London, Paris and Italy make my heart smile. (Corny I know, but true). This book continued to have several surprises and twists and it was entertaining. Worth a read if you love the European setting and the early 1900's time frame.

4.5 Stars. In two brief months, the course of Cora's life has irrevocably changed, leaving her reeling in its wake. From a future secure in the knowledge of her parents' love, with plans to attend Normal School and become a teacher, she discovered the life she'd always claimed as hers to be built on a lie. In truth the illegitimate daughter of copper baron Wallace Kensington, Cora's birth father swept into her life like a whirlwind, determined to bring Cora into the fold of his family and open her eyes to a world replete with wealth and possibilities beyond her wildest imaginings. Reluctantly joining her half-siblings and their friends on their own fabled Grand Tour of Europe, Cora finds herself coming to care for her companions, individuals once thought so unlike her proving more similar in their hopes, dreams, and struggles than she'd ever assumed children of privilege could be. And the longer she experiences the power and privilege attendant with being recognized as a Kensington child, Cora begins to fear that rather than simply expanding her horizons, this trip might fundamentally change her, leaving her with an identity no longer of her own making.

When unexpected danger finds the tour group on their sojourn in Paris, tensions are heightened and the tenuous alliances and friendships between members of the group are tested. Continuing the tour under a shadow of danger, Cora finds herself increasingly anxious about her future and determined to establish a life and a future for herself beyond the auspices of the Kensington name. She also finds herself torn between two very unlikely men -- the young apprentice tour guide, or "bear," William, and the wealthy and dashing French nobleman Pierre. The latter promises a life of ease and adoration, establishing a life for Cora in her half-siblings' aristocratic circles, while the latter sees Cora as she truly is -- a simple farm girl, oft-times overwhelmed, determined to make her dreams come true. Amid the glittering European sights, stalked by a shadowy menace, Cora must discover if she possesses the courage to follow her heart, taking the best parts of her past and present to establish a new identity, and to stake her claim to a future of her own making.

The first novel in Bergren's Grand Tour series, Glamorous Illusions, was one of my favorite reads last year, the wait for its sequel interminably long -- but proving well worth the wait, proving true the adage that patience is a virtue. Grave Consequences possesses all of the elements that made its predecessor a stunning success -- glamorous settings, well-drawn characters, and all the romance and intrigue of a bygone era that fans of costume dramas like myself could wish for. This is a novel that creates Cora's newly-glamorous world wholly and completely on the page, bringing the sights, sounds, and customs of her journey to brilliant, vibrant life with the scope and sensibility of a gorgeously-rendered film. Bergren has a gift for sprinkling facts and description liberally throughout the text, never overwhelming the story -- instead, transporting readers to stand alongside Cora in wonder of the sights and opportunities the tour has given her.

Cora continues as, generally, one of the most likeable, honest and relatable heroines I've met on the page. I love her strength, intelligence, and determination to be her own woman, the courage of her desire to carve her own path in a world where women were still very subject to the dictates of a patriarchal society. However, in this volume I had to remind myself numerous times that Cora is only two months into her relationship with the Kensington family and their world of power and privilege. Perhaps it was her first brush with danger -- but Cora spent half the novel clinging to a foolish, unbelievably naive view of her father's power and nature at odds with her perspective in the prior book, a frustrating regression character-wise that remains unresolved until the novels final quarter.

That said, I love Cora's suitors, and the push-and-pull between her forbidden, wildly blossoming feelings for the young bear, Will, and the continued, delicious havoc the gentleman Pierre continues to wreak on her fragile emotions. Will is an absolute darling, with his quiet regard for Cora and his determination to behave honorably as regards his intentions. But I do wish that, with Will sharing third person point-of-view scenes, that the end game as regards this love triangle wasn't quite so clearly telegraphed -- because Pierre is easily Will's equal in the handsome nobility department. :) I desperately hope that Pierre gets something resembling his own happy ending in the upcoming third volume, as I tend to feel that Cora tends to not give him a fair shake more often than not here. I suppose I can't help but cheer for the underdog. *wink*

If Grave Consequences is any indication, Bergren is on track to achieve something rare when it comes to series fiction -- three consecutive novels, one epic story, all parts equally compelling and stunningly realized on the page. With the added threat of kidnappers shadowing their journey, Bergren further underscores the life-changing nature of this trip not only for Cora but each of her companions -- a literal and symbolic transition from childhood to the responsibilities of adulthood -- and the consequences attendant on striving to take responsibility for one's own life. With a subtly-drawn, organic faith thread, well-crafted characters, and a plot brilliantly executed in its simultaneous meticulous attention to detail and breathtaking scope, Grave Consequences is the rare sequel that nearly matches its predecessor beat-for-beat. I cannot wait to rejoin Cora and her family in their final chapter travelling across European world, one final chance to visit an opulent world in the twilight of its powers.

Let's begin with the positive. The first 1/3 of the novel is fun and delightful. The travelers stay with Pierre's sister and her husband in Provence in their fine mansion that was once a prison, perched above the Rhone river. The entire visit spent with Celine and Adrien is magical, almost too good to be true. Every morning the young gentlemen awaken, slip on their bathing costumes, and take a leap from the house into the river below that right past the magnificent mansion. The imagery was so vivid that I effortlessly pictured the scenes spent in Provence.

Unfortunately, the magic was not to last. Cora's emotional upheaval really ended up detracting from this second novel. I understand that she comes from a simple background. Her parents were farmers, they never had much in the way of financial security, etc. I get that. What I don't understand is her foolhardy belief that Wallace Kensington would simply allow her to return to her previous life after bringing her out of it. Why would she even want to?

With Pierre at her side, Cora has an opportunity to achieve so much good that goes far beyond attending school and becoming a schoolmarm. A lot of people hold with the idea that you must follow your heart wherever it might lead you, even if it means you're going to fall in love with a penniless tour guide like William McCabe, who you know your father doesn't approve of, and if he finds our you're seeing him on the sly, he'll summarily dismiss him. Love is about more than mere feelings. It has to be a joining of head and heart and all I see Cora doing is following her heart, head be damned.

I don't approve of that philosophy of "falling in love." Pierre is a good man who Cora is also attracted to. He's wealthy, compassionate, generous, and he adores her. Cora is not some fling for Pierre, unless something happens in the final book to mar his reputation by having him make choices outside of his established character. With him at her side, she could fund schools, and charities, and make so much difference in the world, accomplish so much good. But no, she's determined to spurn his advances, all because she has "fallen in love" with Will. A decision I don't understand because all I see in Will in this book is a careless, fanciful dreamer who knows that being with Cora is against his contract with her father. The man knows this romance is against the rules! But he just can't help himself. It's ridiculous.

Cora's resentment of her father and his maneuverings, her apparently intense dislike of wealth, all left me with the sour impression of her as a selfish little brat who throws these opportunities back in her father's face with her ungratefulness. She's even being ungrateful to God, wanting to go her own way instead of waiting on Him and examining the possibilities that her new life among the wealthier set might hold. But no, she must go her own way, make her own choices, even it means alienating herself from her new family and destroying Will's career. I don't see her father, Wallace Kensington, as the monster that Cora sees. Then again, I also tend to appreciate rather than resent the societal norms of varying historical eras, accepting them instead of ranting against them the way Cora rants. She rebels for rebellions' sake, and for someone like me who attempts to take her family's wishes into account when making decisions, well, it makes liking Cora all that much harder. I know my own identity and I don't have to be willful or disrespectful to be myself.

I'm afraid that Ms. Bergren lost me a bit with this 2nd novel. I so thoroughly enjoyed Glamorous Illusions that I'm very disappointed Grave Consequences did not live up to my expectations. The writing is as excellent as ever, but the plot wanders in circles, retracing old steps, and is wound up in unnecessary emotional drama. Because this series is historic romance rather than a historical, I already know that Cora must end up with Will. It's the way of the genre. This love triangle was merely penned to lend some drama to the story, but all it does for me is drag the story down. Cora never had a choice. The genre already decided for her that it would be Will and so it is the author's job to get her there, leaving poor Pierre, who I like so much more than Will, in the dust.

Add to that the suspense of having men trying to kidnap the female Kensingtons at every turn, when I already knew a 100 pages before "the big reveal" who was at fault, well, it was a bit of a downer. Surely someone in the novel had to have been at least as astute at reading people as I am, but no. Instead they were all caught by surprise and I was left rolling my eyes at their naivete. The tells were all there, people! It was obvious!

Here's hoping the 3rd book will redeem the series. But I may take a break between books 2 and 3 in the hopes that I'll be more accepting of the inevitable finale. Who knows, maybe the author will surprise me.

In Glamorous Illusions Cora Dehl goes through some drastic things as she comes home from a semester of Normal School. The only person to help calm the tides is her real father, a copper-king. Wallace Kensington helps Cora and her family with their destitute farm. Then gets wisped away to meet the rest of her family she's never known on a Grand Tour through Europe.
The first book was so wonderful and the ending captivated me. So much, that I couldn't write a full review. I needed the sequel.

Lisa T. Bergren knows how to wrap up a story. Every time I read her novels I'm 10 pages from the end and still awe-struck at what's going to happen. Her writing technique is understandable and exciting. You never want the story to end.

Grave Consequences picks up where Glamorous Illusions left off. Cora and Will's budding forbidden attraction to each other gets into a whirlwind with the many friends and foes through the rest of the Grand Tour.

At times Will and Cora's love for each other drove me crazy. I wanted them to end up together, but I also really liked Pierre.
Will is so strong and bold. He's gallant when it comes to his clients, especially Cora. He's one of those characters that has gone through so much, you just want to hug and comfort them.
Pierre is handsome, charming, rich, and friendly, but he's not strong in the faith. At least not as much as William is.

If it were me, I'd do the same thing that Cora done. Or at least try to be as courageous as her.

Cora's character is so brilliant. She never wavers. The things she says and does shock the others, and I love it! As she goes on this discovery trip through Europe she finds what she's never thought of before, and also realizes to trust in her Heavenly Father more so.

Personally, I found this book better than the first. Perhaps the suspense and all the twists among it were so escalating. I'm going to immediately start the next book.

(There was a small Christian book store where I recently went on a trip and purchased all three books! They had a 'buy two get one free' deal. Thought that was perfect.)

Oh the dreaded 2nd book. I hate series for this reason. You could have put this book at the end of the first book and probably put some at the beginning of the 3rd book. I can't imagine what the third book holds and I'm not sure I'll finish it if it's like the 2nd. The tour and seeing Europe through a book only holds charm for so long but it gets old pretty quick. This book drug a little bit and ideas repeated and story lines repeated. The romance was fun and I really like Cora as a character. She really does keep you interested and wanting to know how she is going to handle everything thrown at her. I think the ending was a little too easy and I am really wondering where the 3rd book is going to go. These are clean Christian reads with some kisses.

I could barely make it through. There just isn't enough of a plot here to justify three LONG books. I was shocked when I finished the first one that so little plot had been covered by so many wordy pages.

Picking up immediately where the first novel, Glamorous Illusions left off, Lisa’s second chapter in the lives of the Kensington-Morgan clans travels is no less decedent in its settings featuring a compelling, “real” heroine and the best part of all, it shows no sign of letting up as reader’s gear up for the final novel in the trilogy. Never is there a dull moment in Cora’s overseas travels that continues on through Austria, France and Italy. The skill with which Lisa writes this book is unparalleled. History lovers should never feel slighted with the detail carefully inter-woven into the heart of the novel. Chocked full of interesting historical tidbits for any reader who enjoys fascinating fiction with a historical framework, the author never misplaces the concept of what this started out to be; a coming-of-age saga involving a girl whose identity has suddenly been upended.

Cora’s heroine is a wonderful personification. Her character is not only likable but also a sympathetic personality who is easy to relate too – we’ve all at some point struggled with a form of identity, it’s a part of the growing up process. The first person narration seems understanding of that leading Cora to become more of a "friend" than an impersonal character. The stage on which Cora’s self-doubts, dreams and confusions play out is opulent and thought-provoking. Much as I love romance (and there is plenty of that smoldering here, never fear!), what is so poignant is the abiding fear struck in Cora that she’ll never want to turn back from the life of comfort she was swept into. One of the characters’ who is far too often lost in the shadows of everyone else is, Anna. I adored her conversations with Cora and the genuine advice she imparts to her mistress. Then there are the charms of the romantic triangle. Pierre is, of course back along with Will, the young guide (or Bear). It isn’t hard to like both men even though we all probably have a frontrunner. For Cora the choice is clear – for readers, both will likely make you swoon at some point or another. *wink*

If you’ve not yet been swept up into the charms of Lisa’s Grand Tour, there is no better time; wait no longer. It’s a journey you won’t want to miss!

The very premise of this book boggles my mind. Spend weeks touring Europe just because you can, in the very lap of Royal luxury? I can't imagine! Doing so with several love interests, people who don't like you, people who want to kidnap you, and not knowing whom you can trust - I think I'd lose it.

With that said, the descriptions of each place visited in Europe are completely fascinating. As a total lover of history, I would love to stay in a Venetian palace, visit a French ruin, or climb a glacial mountain. Just imagine who might have been there before you!

Unlike the first book of this series, it took me a bit to get my head in this book, but I think that's because of the way the last one ended - and how long it's been since I read the first one. That one didn't have a final wrap -up or slow resolution; instead, it ended like a soap opera, with the reader wanting desperately to just pick up the second book and keep going. This series reads more like installments or chapters than separate books, so since I read them months apart, it took some time to get back into it without the usual warm-ups and introductions that usually take up the first chapter or two of a series. However, I was soon back in the game, and once there, I didn't want the book to end.

The ending of this book did feel more final than that of the first in the series, with a more complete conclusion and resolution, but it did not keep me from wanting to read on. Instead, I was completely impressed by the ending. The surprise both in action and in the character of Cora is a perfect transition to the next book, and I can't wait to read it.

If you've ever wanted to travel, if you find the luxury of the Titanic incredible, or you just plain like history, this is definitely the series for you. With so much action, intrigue, and adventure, and romance, all done in corsets and silks, Grave Consequences is a riveting read.

I received a free copy of Grave Consequences from LitFuse Publicity in exchange for an honest review.

Lisa Bergren continues to draw me in with her second novel in the Grand Tour series! I absolutely love the beautiful imagery she gives us as Cora and her siblings travel all over Europe! She is so descriptive that I have no trouble visualizing the family there!

I really liked how Lisa brought a lot of suspense in this one with the kidnappers as well as the outings that sometimes went wrong. Their were many times she had me on the edge of my seat since I was unsure what was going to happen, especially when Will and Cora decide to try and draw in the kidnappers by their new plan!

Their was also great romance that made me squeal with delight (I don't what to give it away so I won't say who it involves), but also make my heart break. I love Will and Pierre, but Cora will only have the one she has given her heart too! I feel bad for the man who did not claim her heart because he is so wonderful!

My favorite part of the entire novel was the ending when Cora takes a stand against her father! She was so bold and I love how she pushed to make her own decisions instead of someone making them for her!

I am greatly looking forward to Glittering Promises to see how the rest of the tour will be and how Cora taking a stand will effect Vivian as well the others! I am also looking forward to Cora's growing romance with that certain someone!

Great novel overall!

This series really took me on a beautiful guide of Europe, making me want to visit! Next time I'll have to read it with a map of Europe nearby because I wished I understood the references better. That was a little frustrating.

Cora not only traveled through Europe, but she traveled through love. She had to make decisions on whether she would pursue one or both of the men looking for her attention, Pierre and Will. Pierre was so charming and extremely rich, and Will was so lovable. Pierre was the man her family approved of, and Will was strictly forbidden as a guide on their tour and not rich.

There was mystery and a few tense moments to add to the enjoyment. Overall I loved the story and the characters. Let me say, Hugh was always good for a laugh. Some of the scenery descriptions felt a little long at times, but overall I really enjoyed this read. I look forward to reading book 3 when it comes out in October!

GRAVE CONSEQUENCES, the second book in the Grand Tour series, is one of Lisa Bergren’s best novels to date. The adventure, danger, and intrigue that faces Cora Diehl Kensington honestly never let up. A time or two, it felt like a bit much, but the mastery with which Bergren wove this tale headed off my negative thoughts with compelling characters. I admit it—I was conflicted over who Cora should be with. Does that make me a bad person? She just did a fantastic job making both potential suitors equally attractive. If Cora had waved more, I would’ve fought Bergren over the ending. Alas, the story was spectacular and the characters to-die for—and they almost do! I strongly recommend GRAVE CONSEQUENCES—in fact, ANY Lisa T. Bergen novel!

Lisa Bergren was an author I had never read before, but I was pleasantly surprised when I began the first book of the Grand Tour series. She is an excellent author and her background in editing have helped her craft marvellous worlds around her characters. The many faces I met throughout the first two books of the Grand Tour series did not seem to melt together or become too many, but each were well-developed and different from one another. Bergren focuses mainly on Cora and Will, and their forbidden relationship as a new socialite and a bear-in-training. I really enjoyed this relationship, as it is one I have never seen explored in fiction before. Bergren's settings throughout Europe as the Kensington's and Morgan's travel on their tour was also beautifully described, making the reader feel as if they were truly there. A beautiful book by Bergren. I've already ordered the third in the series so I can finish the Grand Tour alongside Cora!

I have been looking forward to Lisa T. Bergren's second installment of the Grand Tour series since reading "Glamorous Illusions" last year. I didn't like "Grave Consequences" quite as much as the first novel, but it was still a great read.

Danger makes an appearance at the conclusion of "Glamorous Illusions" and continues to thread through "Grave Consequences," often lurking in the shadows of European landmarks. The sense of impending attack upon the travelling party lends a suspenseful edge to the plot otherwise defined by romance and European history. New characters also add intrigue as Cora attempts to ascertain their motives. Meanwhile, Cora must also contend with matters of the heart and determine her place in the Kensington family. The romantic suspense is often stronger than the mystery of who is targeting the Kensington traveling party.

Bergren established a love triangle between Cora, Will, and the wealthy Frenchman, Pierre, in "Glamorous Illusions." Because the story is told from the perspectives of both Cora and Will, it is easy to relate to their feelings as well as their internal debate about whether or not to act on those feelings. Will and Pierre both have their charms as potential suitors, but I consistently hope for a union between Will and Cora. Of course, circumstances and family prevent an easy match, and increase the interest for readers. I want happy endings for all three characters, but it seems that at least one heart is destined to be broken by the end of the series.

On the surface, Cora's story is like a fairy tale. She is a farm-girl-turned-heiress on the trip of a lifetime, dressing, dining, and traveling in splendor. Her new-found wealth creates hardships for Cora that are evident in "Glamorous Illusions" and "Grave Consequences." The chapters told from Cora's first person perspective provide insight into her inner doubts and attempt to reconcile both sides - Diehl and Kensington. Bergren adds emotional depth to the plot through Cora, and creates a realistic character.

Historical depth is also an appealing aspect of "Grave Consequences." Bergren takes readers on a grand tour of Europe through her descriptions. The sites, tastes, and sounds of France, Switzerland, Austria, and Italy come to life on the pages. These are all places I dream of visiting, and combining them with a historical setting make them even more appealing. I can't wait for the tour to continue in Book 3, "Glittering Promises."

***SPOILER ALERT***
Wow. Lisa Bergren never ceases to amaze me with her writing. She is by far one of my favorite authors and maybe even my number one favorite. When she writes a story she completely pulls me in to where I feel like I'm standing right next to the characters. She uses such vivid description for all the settings in the story that I literally feel like I'm looking upon Austria, London, Geneva, and other places visited in the book.

I feel so much emotion for both Cora and Will. When Cora's Father was forcing her to allow Pierre's advances all I wanted to do was jump through the book and punch her Dad in the face. I also felt horrible for Will because he had to watch Pierre with Cora time and time again when he couldn't do anything about it without losing her and his job in the process. I was so depressed with all the things going on in Will's life: His relationship with Cora, the responsibility of everybody in the group, the death of his uncle, and then the debt that was laid upon his shoulders. So many times I wanted to rip this book to shreds, but I like books that make me feel emotion whether it be good or bad.

Will and Cora's first kiss was so cute! The whole time up to that moment I was practically screaming in my head "DO IT ALREADY!" to Will. It was really sweet seeing him try to withstand the temptation to kiss her and tell her how he felt about her because he knew all the consequences his actions would lead to. Lisa Bergren is definitely a romantic and is great at putting it to work in her stories. In my opinion, out of all the books I have read this first kiss was probably one of the best. I don't know why, I just thought it was romantic.

I love how Cora is so determined not to let anything change her. She knows who she is and what she wants and she is willing to fight for it, which is a great character to have.

The cover of the book is beautiful, however the thing I don't like about it is I the person on the cover for Will. It's not how I picture him at all, but I tend to picture every guy in a story like an Abercrombie model anyway. :)

I could go on and on about how great this book is but I think I'm gonna stop here. I hope this was enough information to help you decide on whether to read it or not.

In the sequel to Glamorous Illusions, we rejoin Cora Diehl Kensington on her grand tour of Europe with her newly discovered half-siblings. While things are going better for Cora with her family, things are only becoming more difficult in her romantic life. She's being aggressively pursued by a dashing Frenchman, Pierre. However, Cora's heart seems to be drifting toward their young tour leader Will. All the while Cora and company are still being chased by the people that kidnapped Cora and her sister in France. With new friends and some twists and turns, Cora must navigate Europe and her new social status. Cora's not sure though that she will be able to get everything she wants.

I found the first book very interesting, so I was excited to read the sequel. It was definitely a lot of fun. Cora's world is becoming increasing more difficult to navigate through, and you can't help but feel for her. She so wants to be able to live her life as she chooses, but this is looking less and less likely. Her newly discovered biological father has much bigger plans for her, and everyone around her is sure to tell her that Wallace Kensington always gets his way. While this doesn't sit well with Cora, she soon discovers there is a lot of truth in this. Cora is being pursued by the French Lord Pierre, but it doesn't take her long to realize her heart actually belongs to Will. Circumstances quickly change though, and it seems like Cora and Will will have a difficult road ahead if they want to be with each other.

Like any good middle book, this one leaves you with a lot more questions than answers. To be honest, I'm not sure how Cora is going to get any of the things she truly desires. That makes things more exciting though. This book manages to move the story along at a fairly good pace while really setting up the next book. I could have done with maybe a little less of the back and forth between Cora and Will on their feelings for each other, particularly when they had already confessed those feelings for each other. That didn't make a lot of sense to me. Overall though, that's a minor point. This book is able to make you feel like you are there in the time and the place exploring with Cora. I look forward to the next book. I really want to know how it all turns out.

I quickly discovered I needed to read 'Glamorous Illusions', before I had the background necessary for Book 2 in Ms Bergren's Grand Tour Series. With the stage set, I began this 2nd leg of the journey...

Hair-raising adventures dogged the Kensington and Morgan families from Paris to Austria to Italy. Red herrings and ruses thrown in to confuse any resolutions kept the tension building.

Our feisty protagonist, Cora, seems to have a flair for the dramatic, managing to get herself and not a few of the other entourage members into hot water. Repeatedly. She never seems to recognize the outcome of her decisions will affect more than herself. Grave COnsequences indeed... Whilst I appreciated many of her strengths of character, others, due to her immaturity, were borderline. Scenes with her father were dynamite interactions calling for every available inner resource Cora possessed. Her growth of character ending this 2nd installment was a valued relief.

Descriptive picturing of locations, people, settings, add to the appeal of the era. Historic information provided via tour presentations serves the reader well without being documentary. An added insight into these characters through their teaching methods and dialogue, and their choice of activities provided for these Grand Tourists. It certainly stirred up my own interest regarding their various ports of call. Live concerts in Vienna featuring the work of historic composers, balls [and ballgown shopping!], picnics in France's meadows overlooking waterscapes, champagne and strawberries at every turn... ahhh - not hard to picture the life Ms Bergren is presenting to her readers.

The ending? Absolutely delicious.
Fantastic story twist setting the stage of anticipation for book 3, Glittering Promises, due this OCtober.

Title: GRAVE CONSEQUENCES
Author: Lisa T. Bergren
Publisher: David C. Cook
March 2013
ISBN: 978-1434764324
Genre: Historical

The Powerful, Epic Romance Continues

For Cora Kensington, the journey of a lifetime takes unexpected twists. And her future—her very life—depends on the decisions she’ll make at each crossroad. As her European tour with her newfound family takes her through Austria, France, and Italy, an unseen enemy trails close behind. Meanwhile, a forbidden love continues to claim her heart, putting everyone’s plans in danger.

And as Cora stays one step ahead of it all, what might need the most protection is her own heart, torn between the dramatic pursuit of a dashing Frenchman and a man who has been quietly staking claim to her affections all along. Love has dangers all its own. She must escape the bonds of the past and discover the faith to make the right choices, as each one has grave consequences.

GRAVE CONSEQUENCES is the second book in the series. Readers should read Glamorous Illusions first, as these books do not stand alone. GRAVE CONSEQUENCES does have some loose ends tied up, but has enough left hanging to leave readers anxious for the third book in the series, coming in October 2013.

I enjoyed getting reacquainted with Cora and her family and friends, as they continue their grand tour through Europe. There are some interesting twists in this story, and the struggle is more external than internal. The story is not one to be read in a day, but rather to be read slowly and savored.

Fans of Ms. Bergren and historical sagas won’t want to miss GRAVE CONSEQUENCES. Discussion questions and an interview with the author are included at the end. $14.99. 430 pages.

What a ride! This book has a little bit of everything in it. Mystery, romance, and a bit of suspense! And let's not forget the beautiful setting up Europe. In this book, it takes us to the lower parts of France, Austria, and a part of Italy.

Cora Kensington has had the Cinderella dream that every other girl has ever hoped for. Cora has been presented with this gift to travel with her unknown siblings, by a father she never knew. In Glamorous Illusions, Cora is tossed into a whirl wind and just doesn't know what is going on and can't really find her footing until a kidnappers threaten to harm the people she has been getting to know. In Grave Consequences, Cora has finally figured out her footing and is determined to get back to school to finish her teaching certificate when the trip is over with, ready to tell her future students about her adventures. However, several of her siblings and new friends have indicated that her hopes may not be inline with her father and what she wants isn't befitting to a girl of her station.

It becomes a question of when is a gift no longer a gift and what is the purpose?

Questions are answered in Grave Consequences that were presented in Glamorous Illusions and more are posed. Cora has much to figure out in her personal and social life. With siblings, her father, and with romantic interests. There were some twists I never saw coming. We are introduced to new characters and all of our favorites are back as well, along with not so favorite. The development of the several characters was great and I will say, one character that I thought was on the edge of OK, proved that he was OK. And after reading this book, I'm still very leery of Wallace Kensington. I can't wait to see what will happen in Glittering Promises!

The Grand Tour series is yet another entertaining historical series from author Lisa Bergren. I don't believe I've read a book by Ms. Bergren that I didn't enjoy and recommend to fellow Christian romance fans. Grave Consequences, Lisa's latest novel is an interesting story to say the least. I'm still not sure if I like Cora's main love interest. I just could not connect with him and found myself liking the other gentleman soooo much more. The rest of the characters and story itself are terrific.

Following where Glamorous Illusions left off Grave Consequences finds Cora and her new-found family in the midst of their Grand Tour with danger still on their heels. A hefty 440+ pages it's a surprisingly quick read. All the drama and tension that were present in the first book are in this book! Cora is still as headstrong as ever even though she's had to make the adjustment to life with a wealthy family. I have to say that I'm not at all sure where Cora is headed but I hope she finds happiness and her one true love. As much as she denies wanting a Prince Charming, I think she needs one.

Grave Consequences is a good book but definitely one to be read only if you have read Glamorous Illusions. If you're a fan of Lisa's books or historical fiction definitely think about picking up this series. Book 3 will definitely be a must-read for me if for no other reason than I want to see who, if anybody, Cora ends up with!

"How much did we do in life that was the result of what others around us demanded? Rather than what God was calling us to do?"

Cora Kensington has it hard. Taken from her comfortable country home and parents, she's brought into a well-to-do family she didn't know she belonged to until recently. Lime-light didn't seem to suit her, but now she has a part to play in it, and she must learn to cope with it. As well as her biological father's wishes for her.

This is the second book in Lisa T. Bergren's Grand Tour series, and although I didn't read the first, I didn't have a difficult time in finding my way around this one. It wasn't exactly stand-alone, but it was understandable and made me want to pick up the first book of the series.

Ms. Bergren takes us on our own Grand Tour with her rich tapestry of writing and flowing descriptions of places most of us are likely never to travel. Full of gorgeous imagery, at times you can almost smell the places Cora and the others are visiting. Add a little romantic angst, (and who doesn't love that?!) a little intrigue, and a little suspense, and you have a wonderful book to spend your weekend with. Recommend!

**My thanks to David C Cook publishers for providing me with a copy in exchange for my honest review. These thoughts are my own, and I was not required they be positive.**
