Rachel Billington has written twenty one novels and eleven books for children. She is also a journalist, feature writer and reviewer. She is a regular contributor and Associate Editor of Inside Time, the national newspaper for prisoners and a Vice-President of English PEN. In 2012 she was awarded an OBE for Services to Literature.

È un libro particolare e che definirei 𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑝𝑙𝑒𝑡𝑜 per la trama e i personaggi che descrive.
Lydia e Patrick non si conoscono, conducono vite totalmente diverse, eppure il loro incontro è il fulcro di tutta la narrazione e del loro sviluppo: Lydia entra nel negozio dove lavora Patrick, quest'ultimo la conduce nel retrobottega e la accoltella ripetutamente.
Da questo episodio si dipanano i racconti di entrambi i protagonisti, dal processo che i due devono affrontare, dalla lenta rivalsa di Lydia per riuscire a riappropriarsi della sua vita, dagli anni che Patrick sconta in prigione, fino al loro nuovo incontro.
Ogni capitolo è intervallato dai due diversi punti di vista e la scelta di raccontare in prima persona fa immedesimare il lettore fin dalle prime righe. Ho apprezzato tantissimo le descrizioni psicologiche dei personaggi, le spiegazioni per le frasi dette e non dette e per i gesti, seppur estremi.

° psychologisch tiefgründig im Bezug darauf, was eine Gewalttat für das Opfer bedeutet aber auch wie emotionale Vernachlässigung im Kindesalter dazu führen kann, dass man nicht in der Lage sein kann feste Bindungen einzugehen
°leider stellenweise sehr langatmig, mit einem Ende, das alles kaputt gemacht hat und ins lächerliche gezogen hat
