These are the things that I've always To get the top grades in my class. To make my grandmother proud. And most of all, proof that I could succeed where the rest of my family had a Stanford acceptance letter, early admission. My mother and my sister were obsessed with boys and love and sex. So obsessed that they lost sight of their futures, of what they wanted. And in the end, they lost everything. I'll never let a boy distract me. I promised my grandmother that. But that was before Tate. Before the biggest pop star on the planet took an interest in me. Before private planes and secret dates and lyrics meant for me alone. There's so much I don't know. Like why he left music. Where he goes when we're not together. What dark past he's hiding. But when we kiss, the future feels far away. And now…I'm not sure what I want.

Sorry guys, but it was just not my book. It was so lame, like a really bad teenage movie. The story and the characters had no depth at all, and there were so much hot and cold scenes in it. There were moments when I just had to laugh because the whole story was so incredibly cliché. Sorry.

A GUILTY PLEASURE!
Like an ice cream sundae or german chocolate cake with whipped cream... I devoured this book!

Look, this isn't a profound book that tackles any important issues, it isn't even a particularly new story concept, but just like 50 Shades of Gray captured readers attention, this book satisfies the same desire for a book that entertains and keeps the readers engaged. It's fun, sexy and uncomplicated. Sometimes, that's just the kind of book we need. It's reality TV at its finest. And I loved it.

The writing style was fluid and effortless and beautiful, and was surprised that it was written by two authors (how did they write together so flawlessly?) but now it makes sense, learning that only one author actually wrote it (Olsen). And other author (Craft) just plotted story.
Really enjoyed the writing and would definitely read something by Shea Olsen again. Maybe Olsen will do a solo book in the future? Fingers crossed.

Tate and Charlotte's relationship was well developed. Their romance was intense and kept me turning pages. I desperately wanted them to end up together and I'm hoping there will be a book two!?! So much more can happen.
This was a quick read, the writing flowed easily, and perfect for summer!

I couldn't put this book down. And I'm still thinking about the characters long after I've finished. Pretty sure I'm going to need more from Charlotte and Tate!!!

I got a free copy of the German edition of this book through Amazon Vine and boy, am I glad I didn't pay money for this!

"Flower" tells the story of Charlotte - a good girl who only cares about school and stays away from boys - and Tate - a famous singer who immediately falls for her when he sees her through a shop window.

At the beginning of the story we find out that Charlotte doesn't date and has sworn off guys and sex until at least after college because she doesn't want to end up like her mom and older sister who both got pregnant before they finished high school. No, Charlotte wants to go to college and become a doctor, and so her focus is all on school, her college application, and her best friend. So far so good.

But then along comes Tate, and Charlotte throws all caution overboard faster than you can say first crush. Suddenly, the only thing that matters is being with Tate, homework isn't that important anymore after all, and she even ditches her best friend for a date with him. It felt like she was completely head over heels in love with Tate after only two dates (both of which ended rather apruptly - one of them with Tate sending her home after finding out that she had never kissed a guy before). Mind you, at the very beginning she gave Tate the brush off, but that didn't last long. When he tells her that if they are going to be together it has to be by his rules, she tells him no and leaves ... only to then call him back a few hours later (in the middle of the night) to tell him that she wants it after all and is okay with sticking to his rules. Why she changed her mind? I have no idea. Oh, no, wait - she woke up all sweaty and with the feeling of Tate's hands and mouth all over her. And that is what makes her change her mind. Right.

After the third date, Tate tells Charlotte that he wants her to join him for a trip to his parents' place for christmas. He hasn't actually seen his parents in years, but he wants Charlotte to meet them. And of course while they are there Charlotte sneaks into his bedroom at night to try to seduce him cause she has "waited long enough". Makes sense for a virgin who just weeks earlier said that she doesn't want to have sex until at least after college. Right. At least Tate has some sense and tells her no, but of course this is followed by him telling her that she needs to leave. Pronto. As in, he puts her on a plane home the next morning. Why? Who knows. The guy is not big on explanations.

You know, love stories where the guy occasionally acts weird and stalkery or like an asshole in the beginning and the girl is naive and throws all her plans and priorities overbord after she has gotten her first kiss *can* work --- but only if they are written by a skilled author and if the characters have a good back story that explains everything and character development that shows them realizing where they went wrong and learning from it. And it needs a well-crafted story. None of that is the case with this book unfortunately. Both the writing and characters were superficial and had no depth.

Then there's the constant changing of mind with both Tate and Charlotte. "I'm not interested - he should leave me alone" is followed almost immediately by "I want him so much!!!!", and in Tate's case he goes from practically stalking Charlotte and telling her he wants to be with her to pushing her out the door with no explanation whatsoever several times.

There was no chemistry between these characters, and I found their romance unbelievable. There just weren't any scenes that made me want to root for them. In the end, I gave up around page 200, and the only reason why I'm giving this two stars (rather than just one) is because I *have* actually read worse stories than this.

Fin.

Finally got my hands on this book!
Not sure how the two authors divided their writing but it feels like one author wrote it and the other plotted it. The two seem at odds. The writing was stunning and lyrical and I felt swept up in it. But the plot fell a little flat for me. Seen other reviews call it cliche and that seems about right.
Anyone know who plotted it and who wrote it??

* five stars for writing
* two stars for plot.

What makes a book unputdownable? As an author, I wish I knew that magic formula! But the authors of FLOWER, Shea Olsen and Elizabeth Craft, clearly have it down to a science. I could not put this book down... I read it in bed, while eating breakfast, while cuddling on the couch with my dog. It came with me to work, where I spent my lunch break whipping through pages instead of doing my own writing... whoops. Every time I thought I should probably put it down and save it for later, something would happen that made me NEED to read more!

In FLOWER, the main character, Charlotte Reed, is determined not to do what all the women in her family have done-- fallen in love and ruined their own lives. She's studious and hardworking, with a dream in mind that has nothing to do with boys. But when Tate Collins walks into the flower shop where she works, she begins to question everything.

FLOWER is full of romance and intrigue, but I think my favorite thing about it was seeing Charlotte's character develop, and having her figure out the difference between the person she is and the person she wants to be. This kind of struggle is something I think everyone can relate to. Charlotte has to figure out if the path she has chosen for herself is what she really wants, or if she is doing it to prove to those around her that she won't end up like every other woman in her family.

Love, love, loved this book. Go read it, but make sure you have some free time, because this is a book you'll want to finish in one sitting!

Going into this book, I wasn’t expecting much. While I knew that it wasn’t going to be a piece of literary gold, I at least thought that it would be a fun read that I would enjoy.

Let’s just say that I was wrong.

I find that many books these days suffer from one major flaw: an unlikeable main character. And, Flower is no exception.

Charlotte Reed is an 18 year-old straight A student who has sworn off boys until after university. She wants to reach her educational and occupational goals (get into Stanford, and become a doctor) without the distraction of a boyfriend. She knows what she wants. She’s independent. What could possibly be unlikeable about that?

Well, that’s before Tate Collins comes around, and Charlotte turns into a monster.

Okay, so it might be a bit of an exaggeration to call Charlotte a monster, but it’s not far off to say that she is a hypocrite. In the beginning of the book, Charlotte’s educational goals are based on the fact that she doesn’t want to end up heartbroken and pregnant like her grandmother, mother, and sister before her. She doesn’t want her life to be defined by some guy. Rather, Charlotte decides to be in control of her own life. The authors set Charlotte up as this independent female lead who doesn’t need a boyfriend to complete her. Yet, once Tate comes into the picture, the authors take all of this away from her.

Charlotte turns into this crazed, obsessive girlfriend whose boyfriend is Tate Collins, the international popstar (which she never fails to mention). Suddenly, school, family, friends, and work don’t seem to matter so much. She’s the girl who obsesses over the feeling of Tate’s touch, his handsome face, and his toned body. Even when it’s one of the many times that Charlotte calls things off with Tate, the instant that she thinks about the electric spark that Tate causes within her, she goes crawling back to him. For a smart girl, Charlotte really needs to learn the difference between love and lust.

Yet, what’s even more puzzling is that it appears as if the authors believe that Charlotte remains to be this image of the strong, independent female lead. As if cluing into the hypocrite that they’ve turned Charlotte into, the authors seem to backtrack on Charlotte’s character development. In an attempt to revive the independence and power that Charlotte has vowed to hold over her own life, the authors turn Charlotte into this selfish and annoying character who constantly needs to assert her independence from Tate. How dare he not tell her what he does for a living! How dare he try to protect her from the chaos that surrounds his life! How dare he ask to have control over their relationship! It becomes Charlotte’s life goal to make a big deal out of everything, even though she’s the one who misinterprets it all. Everything that Tate does or says wounds her ego. Yes, Tate asks to have control over their relationship, but he only wants to protect her from the spotlight. Then, when Charlotte’s picture and name are leaked to the public, she’s completely freaked out. It’s as if we’re meant to sympathize with Charlotte, even though she’s the one who caused this entire mess. She always believes that Tate is to blame since he wanted control, but she never admits that she’s at fault too. Maybe if she didn’t throw herself into this relationship before Tate was ready, none of this would have happened. She actually has the audacity to say that Tate’s the one who made it impossible for them to be together. Really? I mean, why does Tate even like Charlotte, when all she does is blame him for everything? He could do so much better.

I just don’t understand why the authors would take a (somewhat) bearable character like Charlotte, who has her head on her shoulders, and turn her into this unbearable stereotypical teenage girl in ‘love’? It makes for an exhausting read. Was the whole point of the book to turn Charlotte into this lying, lustful, and awful person only to have her realize that she has no idea who she is in the end? That’s sure what it seemed like. Someone involved in this book obviously mistook Charlotte’s selfishness for independence. By the time that Charlotte realizes that she is more like her mother than she thought, I was so fed up with her, that I couldn't care less. What is even more infuriating is that Charlotte’s sister and grandmother condone her actions. They’re both like, ‘Oh, it’s okay that you completely changed and became a liar once you started dating Tate, because you were only trying to find love and be happy. You’re still a strong, independent young woman’. Oh, please. Charlotte doesn’t deserve your sympathy. Let her throw herself one last self-pity party.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go and rest my eyes from all of the eye rolling I did while reading this book.

Atvirai iš visos širdies - net vieną žvaigždutę šiam kūriniui man gaila duoti.
+ už tai, kad neįmanoma knygoms neduoti jokio įvertinimo ir čia tiesiog pats mažiausias, kokį tik galiu šiam kūriniui suteikti. Tikrai buvau pikta skaitant šią knygą, tiek daug kartų norėjosi jos kratytis, mesti lauk, bet ištvėriau iki galo (net nesuvokiu dabar pati kaip - magišku būdu);
- už tą nesveiką logiką, nesveikus santykius. Mergina šiame kūrinyje pasiryžus mest viską dėl vaikino, kuris realiai perka tos merginos meilę ir po visko, ką ji daro dėl jo, įskaudina ją. Ir kas blogiausia šiame kūrinyje - ta mergina grįžta pas tą patį vaikiną - tiesiog tobulas pavyzdys jaunoms skaitytojoms (atsiprašau dėl spoilerio, bet jei nenorit sudegint smegenų ląstelių - neimkit šios knygos į rankas, pasitenkinkit mano apžvalga - taip, tai buvo TAIP blogai);
- už visą nuspėjamumą. Žinai kaip eisis, tavęs knyga net nestebina (nors giliai širdyje tikėjausi, kad veikėja nebus tokia naivi ir nedarys to, kas ir taip nuo pirmų puslapių buvo išpranašauta);
- už tą tradicinį įvaizdį, kurį naudoja, kad tik taikyt į jaunų skaitytojų jautriausias vietas. Naudojamas jaunos, neišvaizdžios, gerai besimokinančios, turinčios gėjų draugą portretas ir šalia sugretinamas populiarus, kietas berniukas, kuris būna su užslėptom praeities nuoskaudomis ir atveriantis jas tik tai nedrąsiai mergaitei (pusė paauglių literatūros kūrinių turi tokius veikėjus);

Disclaimer: I was sent this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.

When I first read about Flower, I thought that it was going to be an amazing read and I was really excited to receive a copy. A few chapters in I was hooked! I couldn't put the book down!

As the story progresses, I began to become a bit skeptical about Tate and Charlotte's relationship. After the third breakup, the plot began to get a bit boring. One of the highlights of the novel was when Charlotte began to become her own person. I really loved her character & all of her hard work.

Even though the story itself wasn't my cup of tea, I need to praise both of the authors on their writing styles. The words were effortlessly beautiful and they blended together perfectly. Shea Olsen is a flawless writer. I would love to see her possibly write a solo book in the future (SIGN ME UP!)

Flower definitely gave me a carefree summer vibe while I was reading it. If you're looking for a nice relaxed book to read I would recommend it 110%!

mich so aufgeregt habe!
