This is a homage to hunting and riding sports in Ireland. Point to point hurdle racing, which anyone could enter provided their horse had been hunted in the local hunt, is included.

The wonderful illustrations are by Snaffles and they may well be the memories which stick with you after reading. Ladies riding side-saddle were usual at this time and horse sports were a source of social life and excitement for all classes in rural areas.

Molly Keane was also MJ Farrell and her books have been published under both names. They include Loving And Giving and Time After Time. The stories centre on the fading country house gentry (to which she belonged) as times changed and money trickled away through holes in the leaking roofs. Often they are gently ironic and the characters seem to leap out of the pages.
