Suffice to say I didn't enjoy this book at all. Looking at the cover I expected something more real but everything is done in the shadows. For the first 100 pages nothing really happens besides a bit of development of characters. It's a convoluted tale. Nothing really happens. Pace is boring as heck. For a thriller novel I expected far more. It's boring. I didn't care for any of the characters or story. Really sad. This book has been on my shelf for over 10 years.
One interesting thing is that the American First party really looked like Trump administration. "Europe, Mr Winter, has had it too easy too long," Middleton interrupted. "Too much take, too little give, and too little gratitude. The present administration is beginning to realise, as it's predecessors dit not, that generosity breeds contempt."
Very cool phrase that was written in the 70's and seeing Trump and Zelensky in the oval office really clicked. Either way 20/100
lmao read this at a time where a nazi influencing a run for president in an isolationist america was a fun topic for fiction not the past two years of my life, still super good story tho
