This was another enjoyable entry into Dee and Ryo's world. This one seemed longer and more serious in tone than the previous books and much of it focused on Dee's childhood dad figure and explained why an orphaned street punk decided to become a police officer. Carol is kidnapped by a deranged serial killer who enjoys keeping "pets" and cutting off their hands when he's through with them. As I said, this was one of the darker entries.

There is a serial killer which is killing young girls and chopping their right ! off. Cal ends up in the killer's Crosshairs and it's up to our duo to save the day yet again. Luckily for our duo Cal is one clever and bright young girl. We learn more in this Volume about Dee's past and why he decided to become a cop. It is another rather sad tale as you would expect with this manga. We find out about Jess who Dee thought of as a father. As a young cop Jess found baby Dee abandoned and took him to mother. He was a detective in narcotics and as you can guess there isn't a happy end for him. Let's just say he did what he did to protect Dee in the end. Why are there so many sad backstories for our boys?! I'm just happy to see how much they have grown into fine men and detectives.

3.5 stars, rounded down because of how irritated I am.

The story about Carol was really interesting, as was learning about why Dee became a cop...

...but Ryo acting like he is doing Dee some massive favour by giving him attention, or access to his body, makes me want to hit my head against a wall repeatedly.

At this point, Dee should meet up with Diana and just hook up with her. It would never work out long-term, but they would both have fun until they agreed it wasn't going anywhere and moved on. At this point, Dee repeatedly sets himself up to get hurt (and does) as if this time Ryo may actually wake up one day and love him.

Honestly, the similarities between Dee and JJ are just sad, in both cases. The fact that Ryo probably does love Dee in return makes it worse, because he has absolutely zero guilt for how he treats him. Massive "main character" syndrome with that one.

quick series review:
so, so good!
I had not read fake in years and oh, I am so glad I did so on a whim! the series is just so refreshingly free of many of the genre's most troubling and terrible stereotypes, it's a truly a breath of fresh air! and then there are the very lovable, well-rounded main and side characters... fake is just really, really good.
some of the smaller cases feel a bit rushed and I wish some arcs/cases had more time to them, but overall the crime story aspect of fake is solid.
content note:the manga can be quite graphic when it comes to the depictions of homicides, that's something to be aware of and maybe look into depending how sensitive you are to such things.

I remember this case so clearly from when I read it the first time, I think it was one of the scariest because the dude was a total creep and I felt absolute fear for poor Carol, she’s so nice and cute… but she’s also a badass, I remember loving her then and I still love her now.
But I also remember being frustrated with Ryo at this point in the story, I mean back then it was frustration because I wanted him to jump Dee already, but now it’s more because he’s acting like a teenager instead of an adult, and that’s just annoying on a different level for the adult me, but I still have fun.

I love this series. I was disappointed to learn that the next volume is the last with all the character development given to this series. This is the third Tokyopop series I read recently that abruptly ended. I feel attached to Dee and Ryo and I am not sure one more volume can bring their story to a logical conclusion. Hmmm... Maybe I should start reading Bleach! Hehe!

Carol, my darling. I actually really enjoy this volume because it shows us more of Carol, who I adore, and shows us how resourceful she is. Which makes complete sense considering she was introduced to us as a pickpocket.

La historia de Carol me gustó mucho, volvemos al tema del crimen y se incluye la mención de algunas temáticas sociales. La historia de porqué Dee se volvió policía fue muy buena, me gustó la manera en que se trató, creo que estuvo muy bien narrada.

Carol es víctima de un acosador que ha estado matando a chicas por toda la ciudad.

Dee se salta el día de trabajo para ir a visitar la tumba del hombre que fue como un padre para él, y cuando Ryo lo encuentra, le comparte la historia de su muerte.

Este tomo siempre me impacta muchísimo más que todos los otros, porque normalmente no conocemos a las víctimas, pero esta vez Carol es víctima y angustia más lo que le sucede, aunque sabemos que no le va a pasar nada grave, porque es una de las protagonistas, pero resulta muy triste que todas las otras muchachas asesinadas no tuvieran amigos policías que pudieran salvarlas. También el pasado de Dee, con su amigo Arno, que se involucró en una red de narcotráfico y prostitución para ganar dinero y terminó siendo adicto... da mucha tristeza saber que a veces no sabes qué están sufriendo ni tus amigos más cercanos.

Lo que más me pregunto ahora mismo es ¿qué hacía mi yo puberta leyendo estas cosas tan fuertes? XD

Not sure how I missed reviewing this manga! In the first story, a killer is hunting and collecting gruesome trophies, which becomes personal for Dee, Ryo and Bikky when Carol is kidnapped by him. The second story reveals some more of Dee's back story and the man that was the closest thing to a father for Dee.

The UST (unresolved sexual tension) is still escalating between Dee and Ryo, which is great for the reader, as we are treated to some very hot kissing scenes! But you do start to despair of them ever getting their act together - fortunately, we know that this isn't the case!

Penultimate volume of the seven book yaoi cop romance. First story has Carol kidnapped by a serial killer targeting teenage girls and cutting off their hands as souveneers. Secon tale is another dark flashback into Dee's past looking at his surrogate father, a bent cop who gets killed finally doing the right thing. Perhaps not as engaging as previous volumes and less romance & comedy in favour of darker story lines, still great though.

The scenes with Carol getting stalked are just plain creepy, but still drawn in an excellent way. Carol's such a cute character, I always enjoying seeing beautiful drawings of her. Another quick story line though, I raced through this one. On to the Seventh and final book, I give this one another five stars!

This series really seems to be getting back on track - I enjoyed both of the stories in this volume, particularly thebone about Dee's 'father'.
