Packer Pride: For The Love Of Lambeau, Lombardi & Cheeseheads

Rate this book
Lombardi, the Golden Boy, Fuzzy, Bart, Taylor, Nitschke, the Ice Bowl, five world championships in seven years, and a place in history as secure as Fort Knox. Three decades later, the Pack would win their third Super Bowl behind the brilliance of a gutsy field leader named Favre.

Before Lombardi, there was Lambeau and his cast of two-way Johnny Blood, Arnie Herber, Clarke Hinkle, Cecil Isbell, Tony Canadeo, and the incomparable Don Hutson. This group surpassed even Lombardi's crew in league titles, bringing six world crowns to Green Bay.

Packer Pride spans 85 years of Green Bay Packers lore that's sure to work up the gridiron appetites of Cheeseheads everywhere. America's love affair with the Packers is a salute to an era when town teams proliferated in the Mid-Atlantic states and the Midwest during pro football's infancy, before big towns and bigger money pushed out the little guys. In an age when no team is safe from relocation, Packer fans sleep well at night, secure in the knowledge that their team is home to stay, the only publicly owned franchise in the NFL.

Packer Pride All are told by the players themselves, Packers' opponents, coaches, and members of the media.

The novel "Packer Pride: For the Love of Lambeau, Lombardi, and Cheeseheads" is a work of nonfiction. It is composed of mainly quotes from players, coaches, reporters, and others on different aspects of the proud history of the Green Bay Packers. The novel spans from the start of the franchise in 1921 all the way to Green Bay's Super Bowl victory in 1996. The author describes legendary athletes and coaches.
The author's purpose is to inform the reader, yet he is still able to accomplish this while entertaining as well. The theme of the novel is clearly pride in The Green Bay PackersThe author's style of writing was not ver;y evident since most of the book was quotes. He was able, however to assemble the quotes in a way that conveys his message. The quotes give a first hand account of what it would have been like to have been on, opposing, or spectating the Green Bay Packers. The writer makes it very clear through the quotes he has chosen to include that he is no a Bears fan. photos are also included to give the reader a glimpse at what the legends looked like when they competed. The novel had characteristics of both a description and an expostition.
I felt that the book was excellent. It was very well written. I liked that the assembly of quotes gave an idea of what some of the players thought about their team. The only thing that I did not like was that some parts of the quotes repeated each other. This was not the author's fault, though because if he had not used exactly what they said, it would not have been a quote. This novel is completely unique, and I would not change one aspect of it because that would take away from it's uniqueness.
