Well, I liked this enough to decide to read the rest of the volumes - it's only 5 volumes after all, but Mei comes across as a major a-hole in this volume, so knowing that Yurara will end up with him (because I read the sequel series Rasetsu before this book) is annoying.
I get that he has a dark past, but I don't like this making the guy callous. I do like the way Yurara the living girl and Yurara the guardian spirit don't let him do what he wants with the lost ghosts they encounter. I also don't like that when he gets angry at Yurara not being careful enough for his taste, he starts manhandling her. And as a personal pet peeve, the idea of an older teacher (even if it's mid twenties) and a 16-year-old boy makes me, as a teacher at an all boys school, GAG!
People have said that Chiomi usually has the guy who doesn't get the girl be more interesting than the successful lover - well, in Rasetsu I was for the main relationship all the way from beginning to end, so I wonder if this series will leave a bitter aftertaste. Not even the redemption story with Mei's lost love really can whitewash this.
The action, horror and comedy bits are really well done for a shoujo series.
