June 2017 - This is a very close sequel to Book #1, Space Commandos. I have to say that gurries, and Bandit especially, seem to be a very charming, intelligent species. Bandit herself is really OTT (over the top) clever, as well as being a mind-reader and -speaker, together with being able to project goodwill into the minds of those who meet up with her and her bonded friends, Varn Sogan and Islaen Connor. I didn't come at these books in publication order, so I can already say that the amount of time Ms Griffin spends dealing with the angst that Varn Sogan feels about his role in the recently-ended War is excessive. Way too much time about the conflicts with himself in his mind.
However, this is a decent adventure, and I have rated it as such.
Aug 2017 - Had to look back to this book for some info, and wound up re-reading it, perhaps a little more closely than in June. Still a solid 3 stars.
This is more plausible than the first book. The planet's wildlife are interesting, especially the gurries, and Bandit - who adopts Our Heroes - is a delight.
The enemies-to-lovers romance really makes the intrigue of this novel pop. I am being besotted with the characters of Islaen and Varnt. The addition of their "pet" only puts the cherry on top of an already delightful and engrossing tale which would have been a wonderfully inspiring epic fantasy if it had been placed in a medieval time and setting. I am definitely wanting more.
