This is a book for the absolute beginner. If you've written anything at all and have had it published this book is unnecessary. It is very, very basic. Also, the writing style of the author is substandard and the book has the feel of a self-published (read: poorly edited and designed) work. The author has this annoying habit of making a statement and then adding NOT! to the end several times in the text. For example, "This book is indispensible if you are writing for children. NOT!" It may have been funny in "Wayne's World" however many years ago, but not so much today. You are probably better off picking up a Children's Market Guide.

I purchased a used copy of this book after learning about it at one of the awesome Highlights Foundation Workshops. It is jampacked full of helpful information that writers who are serious about getting published need to know. The author shares from her years of experience as both a freelance author and as a writing instructor for the Children's Writers Institute. Sowing Seeds was out of print at the time I purchased a copy, and the sharks were their demanding outrageous prices for their used copies. Fortunately, the book is now being re-published so buyers will no longer have to rob the bank to purchase this wonderful treasure.
