4.25 stars for this fast moving set of short stories bu JG Faherty. There were at least 3 five star favorites that should send you out to get this - all classics in their way: THE ARMIES OF ANUBIS, THE LONGMARSH WITCH, & CRISIS OF FAITH. This is a solid read, I was only disappointed by the inclusion of poems, accurate tho they may be.

A recommended read.

If you happen to have read his book Carnival Of Fear, then you may want to consider giving JG Faherty's short story collection a try too. This is a collection of bone chilling stories (and a few macabre poems thrown in too) with everything after the horror fan's own heart. My personal favorites were the zombie stories like "Home on the range" and "It fell off the back of the truck" though I also enjoyed pretty much the rest of the book as well. I guess with compilations like this you will always end up finding great stories alongside average ones, but all in all it was a scarily good read full of unique and well implemented creepy crawly ideas. Personally I could have done without the poems, but this is juts a matter of taste, I guess.
Last but not least, I liked how there is always a short intro on how stories came to be, often giving you an idea of the author's inner workings too.
In short: A great read for fans of the horror genre!

From demons to macabre poetry, Faherty approaches familiar themes in horror literature in this compilation. The stories represent some of Faherty's early and later work, each story often scary and twisted in its own way. I am a lover of scary tales, and while I found many of these stories addressed familiar horror concepts in unique ways that were much different than I anticipated, I didn't find myself filled with suspense or eagerness to finish this collection. I felt that the characters often lacked any real concise development (for as much as you can develop a character in approximately 10 pages) or depth. I didn't find any of them interesting or engaging enough to care about the impending horror they were about to face. While I agree that the tales were adequately painted as scary, even odd and twisted at times, I wouldn't recommend this read for anyone looking for serious horror.

I enjoyed reading The Monster Inside, by JG Faherty.

Pick your poison from this collection of creepy stories. With a broad variety of ‘creeps’, such as vampires, zombies, monsters, aliens, and just downright weirdoes, this book has vast potions to poison your mind.

Although I don’t want to say much about each individual story, (no spoilers here) I can say that my favorites are “Interruptions” for the first person narrative of the supernatural, and “The Lesson” for its fabulous imagery and sinister touches of reality.

The writing is smart and engaging, and each story takes you on a short, but thrilling ride. If you like creepy, eerie, or supernatural stories, I recommend this collection.

Review of member giveaway eBook

This book of horror short stories and poems provide an entertaining and unusual twist on the usual themes of vampires, werewolves, zombies and bad teachers. Not too graphic and each story being short enough to finish in a few minutes. Highly, recommended. This is a fun collection to add to the genre.
