Elyn Castel spent 50 years as the slave of a vampire sociopath. Now, thanks to cyborg bodyguard Jarl “Blade” Bladin, Kruz is dead. But Blade is after Elyn now, and she has to do everything she can to get away from Blade. But that’s easier said than done…

This little erotica story starts off explosively — with Elyn running for her life from the assassin whose life she’d helped ruin.

What worked for me:

* I really enjoy the “enemies to lovers” plot device in romances, and this story is no exception. Having Blade out for revenge against everyone who’d caused the deaths of his team several months prior made his conflicting emotions for Elyn much more intense.

* I really liked that neither character was perfect. Blade made a very stupid mistake early on in the story in an attempt to be a smartass (his words), and Elyn literally threw herself in front of a blade later in the story because she didn’t take into account that as a Tekken, Blade could take care of himself better than she could.

What didn’t work for me:

* Elyn had been brutally and savagely raped and tortured for the entire 50 years that she’d been enslaved by the evil vampire Kruz and his lackeys, and yet, she shows absolutely no signs of this trauma when she not only set out to seduce Blade before the story began, but also shortly after he’d captured her. The second time comes directly on the heels of her being truly terrified by believing that Kruz was still alive and after her. This seemed to be too far at odds to her initial reaction to the possibility of Kruz being alive to be believable

* Elyn and Blade jumped into the ILY’s way too quickly for my tastes. Even though they had a very short previous history together, I wasn’t feeling the emotional connection that soon.

Overall, however, this spicy little short was a tasty treat, and the best part? Right now it’s only $0.99 for Kindle at Amazon.com

Blood and Steel is a small story, less then a hundred pages, that grabs the reader by the throat and drags them along as it hurtles toward the end. I have never read anything by Angela Knight but the skillful pacing alone in the this short piece would have me looking for more.

The heart of the story is the heroine, Elyn Castel who has spent years as a slave to a vampire sociopath. When the hero shows up she is forced to deal with the pain and trauma of her old life before she is able to move on with her new life. Under a less skillful writer this evolution of the heroine would have killed the pacing and bogged down the narrative. Angela Knight doesn't miss a beat and with every scene the heroine grows and the tension and pacing are kicked up a notch.

The hero Blade is what is driving the story forward at its breakneck speed. It is his own painful past that is driving him. I like the way the choices Blade and Elyn made in the back story set them on a collision course with each other. Blade is a wonderful dark sexy character who is badly broken and needs the heroine just as much as she needs him. The result is a sizzling romance that jumps off the page.

The villains in Blood and Steel were creepy (in a good way). I found them to be disturbing and downright scary. Often in books the hero or heroine kill the bad guy and everything goes back to normal. Not with this. The principle villain was killed prestory and the threat is coming from two of his followers who in their own way loved him and want revenge.

My only nitpick here was that there was so much story jammed into so few pages, that I wanted more. The pacing, while excellent, left me craving more from the characters and their world.

A touch of sci-fi, a dash of the paranormal and a good dose of erotic romance makes Blood and Steel a great quickie.
Elyn has finally escaped her tormentor of 50 years who raped, tortured and controlled her in every way. But now she is running from the cyborg that made that happen, who also happens to be the man she had to seduce for Kruz and lost his team because of it.
Knight takes you on a fast ride into future where cyber technology and the supernatural collide. Full of action, suspense, and blistering love scenes.
There was a good balance between plot and sex. I enjoyed the main characters, Elyn and Blade, the only problem I had was I couldn’t picture them in my head.
A fun, quick read!

Review provided by Black Lagoon Reviews:

Blood and Steel by Angela Knight was something of a surprise. With well under a hundred pages, this was marvelously written with an interesting mix of science fiction, paranormal romance and some exquisitely erotic romance. This may have been my first time reading this author, but I can safely say that it will not be my last!

Initially, I was ensnared by Knight's amazing writing style which instantly propelled me into the story. The words flow smoothly creating a highly developed world that I felt that I could submerge myself in. It's the subtle details and nuances that build this novella and I was blown away by the attention to detail. This amazing descriptive quality not only extends to the atmosphere and world building, but to the characters as well.

Quickly developed and yet fully three dimensional, these characters really grew on me. The tidbits of information about their previous encounter is perfectly timed within the story to help build up the connection between them, creating a richer history that helps bring their simmering chemistry into focus. And while usually back stories given within short stories can throw off the pace, that wasn't an issue here. Instead, you find yourself revisiting those moment as if you are tagging along within the character's memory of a previous time in their history. And while I liked the inner machinations of the pair, the overall personalities are nicely described as well. Elyn, a vampire previously enslaved by her maker, comes across as tough, resilient and yet vulnerable with painful memories of her past. Blade on the other hand, is strong, determined and loyal as he tries to get vengeance for the murdered members of his team of bodyguards at the hands of her maker. And while he may be a tough fighter, there is still the flicker of vulnerability in him as well, that made me love him all the more. And the smoldering connection between the two grows quickly, it feels quite organic, as they join forces to exact their own revenge.

And while the romance between these two may have been enthralling there is still plenty of action to keep the pace moving quickly. In fact, the action scenes were wonderfully written and had me utterly ensnared. When the final showdown comes, much sooner then I had realized as I got overly engrossed in the story, the only word that comes to mind was thrilling. Perfectly planned and wonderfully executed, I could see every move as the pair engage in a fight to the death against their two powerful nemesis.

While there may have been a few flaws given the compressed nature of the story, I didn't feel that they detracted from the story. In fact, I was more then a little impressed by the quality of such a short story with so much packed into it. While I would have loved to see more exploration within this world so I could spend more time in this unique and interesting universe Knight created, I loved the brief glimpse that I received and found myself overlooking the minor inconsistencies within the characters.

Overall, short though it may be, this was a great story that really sucked me in. Angela Knight is definitely an author I'll be watching for in the future as this little glimpse into her writing was amazing! Great characters, a unique and engaging world, with action and romance that made me loose myself in the story. My only wish was that this short story could have been longer as I definitely would have liked to see more of not only the world, but of these two characters.

Angela Knight has given the reader Sci-Fi-vampire-hot romance all in a neat little package you'll want to read again and again. A must read. Review by Scarlet

Blood & Steel is a blazing sizzling page turner with Elyn and Blade burning the screen. Angela Knight yet again proves why she is the Queen of Erotica Romance. Review by Jancr57

BLOOD AND STEEL by Angela Knight is an action pact erotica with several fantastic sex scenes that any fan would love to read! Anyone who isn't a fan and interested in starting in on Ms. Knight's body of work should definitely try something else. (I recommend JANE'S WARLORD, which began the entire futuristic storyline this story is based upon.)The story jumps into a whole universe that is fantastical in some of it's technical absurdity, while lacking the charm of most futuristic fiction.

The story starts with a classic chase scene where Elyn Castel from Jarl "Blade" Bladin through a planetary space station. (Avid readers of Angela Knight are VERY familiar of this scene. She's used it three times in the last five books published through her extensive series in two years.) While the cat-n-mouse tension builds with each maneuver to loose her pursuer, Elyn reveals her entire history and back story neatly in three pages.

WARNING: BE PREPARED FOR VAMPIRES TO MAKE AN APPEARANCE.

The story is quite small, (only 43 pages!) and very detailed in the four sex scenes held within. (A VERY NICE SEX TO STORY RATIO, I MUST SAY!) It wraps up a bit to suddenly which tells me that another longer paperback will be released soon with Elyn and Blade as the lead characters. This was fun, light, and enjoyable but so is daytime SpongeBob Squarepants reruns. I guess I expected more heat and appeal from one of the foremost erotic fantasy writers. Review by Spitefully Sane

I was intrigued by the synopsis on Netgalley about Blood and Steel enough to request a review and was accepted. I’ve read some of Angela Knights books in and past and enjoyed them so thought I’d try something a bit different.

Blood and Steel is a short story set in a futuristic sci-fi world, it’s part of Ms Knight’s Vampires, but I haven’t read any of the others so far. I liked the storyline and the two characters Elyn and Blade yet I felt confused about what was going on and why everything was so different. Once I got past that though I did like the storyline. Elyn has been turned into a vampire and forced to do awful things and endure awful things for the last 50 years because of the vampire who turned her still has control of her until Blade turns up and kills him, Elyn ends up on the run because she’s sure Blade is going to kill her next for what happened to his team. I enjoyed the action side of Blood and Steel, it’s very kick ass but was a bit disappointed with the relationship side of Elyn and Blade, as Elyn had be brutally raped and beaten by her master vampire for the past 50 years yet she quite easily jumps into bed with Blade without any real issues or anything which I found hard to believe.

Overall, I liked the story I just thought it was a bit too short.

Single sentence summary: Elyn has been a slave to a vampire but now that the vampire is dead one of the his enemies is coming after her.

This was a quick and entertaining science fiction erotica novella. It was long enough to develop the characters just a bit but not so long that I kept waiting for more development. Most of the novella seemed to center around Elyn and the love interest, Blade, fighting each other but once they got over that it was on to the steamy scenes.

I enjoyed this but found it took me a little bit to get into. There was so much going on and the details weren't explained right off the bat but a little bit into the story. As soon as I understood what was going on, I really started enjoying it and reading the rest of the novella was a breeze. It was quick action and witty dialog that made this a good read. 3.75 Stars.

When I read the Blurb on Netgalley it seemed interesting enough that I requested a copy.
After reading it I spent a few days stewing on it deciding how I should write this review. This story was good.Honestly I was not expecting much but Knight surprised me with it.Over all it was a small book.Until I came across this page I was thinking about remarking how steamy this book was. However I just realized that Knight is an erotic fiction writer.

The idea of the story was good but the main problem was the short length of it.Whatever issues I had could be corrected if it was a full length book. The story telling was smooth and the idea of had potential. But as I said before it had been more enjoyable if was a full length book.

If there would be another book by this suthor I might read it but not this very moment.

It was a very fast read since it is a novella, but I felt like I came into the middle of a movie and had to take a few minutes to orient myself before I could figure out what was going on. I really think this tale would have worked better as a longer story with more background on both characters. It had great potential, but for me it fell short. I didn't buy the relationship between Elyn and Blade, especially given Elyn's history that is really only eluded to here. Maybe if there had been more back story, I might have liked it more. The loves scenes were pretty good, but not enough to make me really like it. Having never read anything else by her, I can't really compare this short story to any of her longer works.

I would recommend it if you are in the mood for something quick with pretty well done love scenes, pick it up.

I can always count on Ms. Knight for some hot vampire sex. This story is futuristic with some fun tekkie stuff. It's a little kinky but nothing out there. The cat and mouse chasing in the form of assassins is always a pleasure to read. Well, especially when the cat is an alpha male chasing a hot vampire submissive yet strong female. Blade is deadly and he is after Elyn. The question is, why is he after her? It kind of brakes down into two options - kill her or fuck her. I'll give you a hint, this is a happily ever after. It was resolved a bit fast and predictable, but still is sweet and hot. Very little conflict, lots of steamy sexual tension which is just what I wanted.

I recommend to paranormal lovers who want a quick, satisfying HEA with some hot sex.

This is a short Novella about a vampire running from a bodyguard out for revenge. You are in on the chase from the first page and it is pretty much non-stop from beginning to end. As in all of Angela Knights stories there is a lot of chemistry between the hero/heroine, some really hot scenes and a happily ever after. My only complaint about the story is that it was wrapped up to quickly. I realize it is a short story but to me the ending seemed rushed.

This was very short and my review is going to be short too.

Too little text, too many information regarding their sci-fi world without any real explanations and too much sex for such a short novel. The last one wasn't necessarily a bad thing, I just didn't expect it because I didn't read that this was erotica. Fans of it would really have a glorious day, but it just isn't my thing.

However, the world this was set in was very interesting to me, and if Angela Knight ever decides to write a romance story or something like it, I would be interested in reading it.

This is a really quick read, a novella that seems to belong in an erotic paranormal anthology rather than as a standalone book. There is nonstop action, fights, chase scenes, and of course explicit sex.

I would have loved to see more of the backstory told here. There's a lot of intriguing descriptions of the heroine's former life as the slave of a vampire assassin. The science fiction world also seems very interesting. Sadly, none of this is expanded on.

If you like erotic sci-fi, this is recommended. It's a rollicking read! If, however, you want a well-plotted story, the majority of the plot is just alluded to and not written.

I received a review copy of this book from NetGalley.

Angela Knight writes such sexy savageness it makes me want to jump nearest man, sometimes. But I can control my sexually heightened state, years of practice in the military I guess.

I read this story in a few hours, amid my Mommy duties, and it has great sex and nice imagery. I would have liked it to have read the history of the two main characters. And there might even be a novella out there but I didn’t know before I started reading it. It gave enough of the history between Blade an Elyn for me to get a really good idea of how she screwed him over. Otherwise, I would recommend this and any other of Angela's books. I really like the worlds she creates and she is a really awesome person, very friendly when you meet her. So I am going to pimp her books forever.

This is a short story. We get right to the action and it's entertaining enough.

However, it needs some editing. Urthar got spelled at least 3 different ways (including Ulrich), and Elyn was Ellen once. The current $3.99 list price is absurd though, so I'm glad I was able to borrow it from a library.

Way too short for much of any story, just lots of sex, which in my opinion is kind of boring if that's all that is going on. Obviously the characters had some major issues, but I guess they weren't important enough to put any details into the story.
