2.5 stars. Take with a grain of salt all you romance readers, since it is one of my least favorite genres. I admit to skimming over some of the scenes of sexual tension and consummation. The dialogue in those scenes seems SO cheesy to me & the actual descriptions are the same in every romance novel. I did like the underlying story of the two MCs, but my favorite characters were young Billy, Squeeze- Billy's rosy boa constrictor & Nudge - Shelley's Maine Coon cat.
I would actually give it 3.5 but that isn't an option because they only do whole numbers. Some of the language in the book I really could have done without. that is why I gave it a lower rating. I wish it would have had more substance to it. The Back story: her childhood spent in the wild places, her security issues the decorating business should have been played up and dealt with more in the book. Although Lowelll does do a good job of making the childhood and security issues a barrier between her and Cain(I really liked him. One of the reasons I kept reading) but the decorating design business and all that was almost an afterthought and not dealt with much in the novel. I did love the poetic scenes in the book like when Cain is looking out the window of her guest bedroom. I wish she had done more of that. but definately worth the read
Loved the book as always this lady knows how to write a real steamy romance with some adventure mixed in. Never boring not even one single page so it is interesting from cover to cover. Her characters are always very memorable and her writing style is unique and intelligent. One of my favorites and I would recommend any book with her as the author.
Pure romance. Cain and Shelly meet when Shelly is furnishing a house for Cain's ex-sister-in-law. Instant attraction, burning desires, sweet kisses, satisfying sex. You name it, they experienced it. Was a fast read-one you didn't have to really think about.
UGH! I read another by her and loved it so I thought I would try this one. Big mistake! The other one was a suspense type with some romance thrown in. This one was all mush-it had no plot that I could see. To be honest I bailed by page 45, I couldn't take it anymore. Instead of talking about something of substance the characters would go into swimming in the depths of eyes, made the mind leap to thoughts that it hadn't leapt in years, yadda yadda-whatever. I have no idea if this book was actually about something. NO RECOMMENDATION
A romance with pets! In this case, Shelley, a "home maker" takes in a boy's snake so his mother won't kill it. In doing so, she starts to open herself up to the boy's uncle Cain as well. Before you know it, they're in love, but she's determined not to give in because he's a "traveling man." A snake, a Main coon cat, and one nephew later, they're practically living together.
This is an author that I have read a lot of and have added her books to my 'keeper' book shelf. Most I have read at least twice and some even more than that. Always in depth characters that anyone can identify with on some level.
