Leith: A Dark Scottish Mafia Romance (Masters of Scotland)
I’M WILD AND MISUNDERSTOOD—LIKE HIM

The story is a roller-coaster ride of mystery, suspense, danger, threats, life and death, and even romance. It will have the Cowan’s coming into Inverness to pay retribution to the Aitkens for the terror they brought upon the Clan’s priest, Father Gowen. But on this night, Cairstina has escaped her brother’s wrath and will be at the church and witness the scene, placing her very life in danger.

The plot will have Leith protecting Cairstina and taking the life of one of the Aitken men, but now she is a witness, and he can’t allow that. He will take her back to their compound in the Highlands. Thinking she is stubborn and refusing to talk makes him angry. He believes if he punishes her, she will talk—but that is impossible when you are mute.

“You seem very angry and stern, but beneath that rough exterior, there’s a gentler heart.”

“The truth is, even though he scares me, even though I’m afraid of him, I’ve never wanted something so much in my life.”

The story has the good, the bad, and the evil of people. Cairstina is a victim of abuse, injured and no longer able to speak, and suffering the abuse of her brother and mother. Her only friend is Father McGowen. The Cowan Clan is not one to stir up trouble, but they don’t back down from it either. The Aitkens are just evil troublemakers and deserve whatever comes their way.

“Sometimes, we don’t do what’s right. And maybe sometimes, certain principles outweigh others.”

I love the chemistry between Leith and Cairstina and how he stands up to his men and his father and lets them know that she is his and that no one had better touch her. It is as if he can see beyond her silence, and together, they connect. She thrives on his control and dominance, and even when he punishes her, she seems to crave it.

“I don’t know if you’ll be the death of me or if you’ll teach me how to truly live. But I’m willing to find out.”

“Sometimes we wish for a different life. Sometimes we wish for a second chance. And sometimes, we realize, reflected in the love of another, that we already have everything we need, within us.”

While this story does not end on a cliffhanger, there are enough unanswered questions that I am sure will be addressed in the next book. I like how the McCarthy and the Cowen Clans are friends and look forward to seeing more from both.

Mac: A Scottish Mafia Romance (Masters of Scotland)
HOW CLOSE TO THE ART OF SEDUCTION IS REAL LOVE?

The story is a roller-coaster ride of mystery, suspense, deceit, plotting, danger, threats, life and death, and even romance. Since the attack on one of the Cowen women by the Aitkens, they seek retribution—and that means that Byrn Aitkens is the target. It will be up to Mac to seduce her—gain her trust. This is a two-way street because Banner Aitkens has no genuine care for his daughters; they are pawns in his game, marrying them off for alliances. He will use Byrn hoping to gain control and destroying the Cowens.

“You will find Mac. Befriend him. Do whatever it is that convinces a man to—fall for a woman. And then I want you to destroy him. Because like your sisters, your only option is to be wed to another family to strengthen ours. It’s your duty.”

“Serendipitous, even? Destroy him. Which of us will be destroyed in this process?”

I love the chemistry between Mac and Byrn and how he stands up to his men and his father and lets them know that she is under his protection—and that includes his Captain, Leith. He assures Leith he knows his mission and will carry it out, but his heart says differently.

“You like a little excitement. Danger. Don’t you? That’s perfect, then. Because I like control.”

The story has the good, the bad, and the evil of people. Two warring clans, one who only thinks of himself and what he will gain, the other, who cares about people. Two children caught in the middle. One wants to be away and prove her worth, saving her money, creating beautiful clothing, the other loyal to his family—no matter the cost.

“Mulling over my options. Fearing every single result. I’m deeply embedded in a game of life or death to which there are no winners.”

Both Mac and Byrn are caught between a rock and a hard place because they each made the fatal mistake of allowing their heart to get involved. Mac made a promise to Leith he would destroy the Aitkens, and that means doing whatever it takes—knowing Byrn will be hurt in the end. Byrn must appease her father, but her heart isn’t in the game of destruction, she is falling in love with Mac, his dominance and control, his praise, and for the first time in her life, she feels good about herself. The only problem, this situation means destruction, and someone will crash and burn in the process. What will happen when these two must make a decision that will harm the other?

“I knew this could never work out. I knew it. We come from rival clans. We’re star-crossed lovers, as it were, and no matter what, we can’t be together.”

The story is like Romeo and Juliet—two families who don’t get along and their children caught in a battle. What is the most significant measure of love? Self-sacrifice and is what must happen to get out of this predicament.

“You’re right. Real life is infinitely better.”

Tate: A Scottish Mafia Romance (Masters of Scotland)
I’D DEFINITELY INVESTIGATE THAT FURTHER IF I WERE YOU

The story is a roller-coaster ride of mystery, suspense, deceit, plotting, danger, threats, life and death, and even romance. Leith instructs Tate to find the author of the Clan Chronicles, and when she is found, it answers some questions and opens the door to so many more. The story is intense, the characters intriguing, the plot kept the pages turning, and by the end—WOW.

“Fierce loyalty, steadfast protection, the ties of family and friends that are near unbreakable.”

Fran has been best mates with Cowen sisters, Islan and Paisley. She is one of the few outsiders even allowed to come to the Cowen compound in the Highlands. The story will begin with a scream that will send Tate running to find the girls all sledding and witness Fran and Byrn losing control and crashing into a tree where Fran is injured. A night in the Cowen house, then a trip into town, will be the undoing of so much hard work.

“Poor writer of the Clan Chronicles—she’ll have to take a sabbatical, won’t she?”

I love the chemistry between Tate and Fran—these two have each secretly had feelings for one another but never acted on them. Now, fate has brought them together—even if it is under trying circumstances. They must work together to try and undo the damage, protect those they love, and survive this ordeal.

“I think sometimes I just get a little jealous. I didn’t have what you all have. I think that sometimes you take it for granted.”

“You’ve always had a place here. And if I have anything to do about it, you still will.”

“It doesn’t matter that I didn’t intend to hurt his family. I’ve been a danger to them, and now I’ll pay the price.”

The story has the good, the bad, and the ugly. Protection comes with a sudden marriage, a mysterious lover, a threat to the Cowen family and the McCarthy family. The story takes on life and death danger, kidnapping, attempted murder, injured people, and following a trail that leads to a shocking surprise. The story is a page-turner with just the perfect amount of dominance, submission, discipline, and romance.

“I can’t keep up with these emotions. Terror and hope, fear and excitement, my heart squeezes then drops then stutters into a rhythm like an Irish step dancer.”

“No matter what happens, Tate. Know that I love you.”

While the story has a resolution—and I won’t call it a cliffhanger—it does come with some surprises, leading me to believe the Cowen saga is far from over.

Jane Henry can bring a Scottish Dom to life so brilliantly every time that my inner submissive just whimpers. Whether you've read each individual book as they were released or you've just come across this epic series, this is a great addition to any collection. It includes:

1. Leith
If you've read "Dangerous Doms" then you'll recognize some of the names from having brief introductions to these Mountain Men. Truly, what's not sexy about a dominant Scottish Highlander? Leith wasn't originally supposed to be Clan Captain/ leader but the death of their older brother put him in line when Bram, his father, stepped down and passed the mantle to him. Leith wasn't really sure he wanted the position but there isn't anything he wouldn't do for family and clan, including sacrificing himself. Cairstina has been mute for years. As a matter of fact, she's learned to become invisible in order to not draw attention to herself. It's just as well because living with her alcoholic, abusive brother and her apathetic mother, she's learned to take refuge at the Cathedral with her only friend, the priest. When Cairstina witnesses something she shouldn't and Leith can't get any information from her, he decides to take her to his house for interrogation. This was such a great emotional story. Both our hero and heroine have been emotionally damaged and yet we watch both of them grow into themselves with the chemistry they share. I can tell already I'm going to be anticipating the rest of the books as soon as I finish one.

2. Mac
The storyline just gets better, the plot becomes thicker, and the chemistry becomes hotter in this one. If you've been following along then you know the Aitkens family and the Cowen Clan have been bitter rivals for decades. Because of the kidnapping of Paisley Cowen by the Aitkens family and the claim a marriage agreement had previously been made but when asked to prove the promise Banner Aitken failed to do so. Mac has decided now is the time to exact revenge for their family. The plan? To seduce Bryn Aitkens and use the situation to their advantage. Which might've worked but you know that saying about "the best-laid plans of mice and men"? Well, you see Bryn Aitkens hates her family and has bought and opened her own little dress shop, where she creates and sews her own designs, unbeknownst to her father. When he does, he uses his intimidation, guilt, and low opinion of her to give her a choice for disappointing and betraying him. She can either marry his choice to make a beneficial alliance OR she had seduced Mac Cowen and ultimately destroy him. Can you imagine? The worst part, or best depending on which side of the coin you're looking at, is the unbridled chemistry Mac and Bryn have. Just WOW!!! If you're like me, you're going to absolutely love these two and shout it from the rooftops.

3. Tate
From the time she announces a new Cowen family book is releasing until it finally comes out, my stomach has butterflies of anticipation. If you've been following the series then you know Leith has taken the girls' concern about the mafia chronicles seriously. So serious, in fact, he's put Tate in charge of finding the author and bringing her to the family to be interrogated and punished. We've also been led to believe that Tate has had more than "brotherly" feelings for Fran for some time. Even though, other than a brief period where they dated, he's never acted on those feelings. Fran on the other hand has grown up around the Cowen family. Where her friends were protected from harm and had strict rules and guidelines, Fran was left to her own devices, running the streets and getting into all kinds of mischief. And she's always had a crush on one of the Cowen brothers. As each of them have gotten married, it became Tate's turn to become the leader in her daydreams. With a romantic heart and a penchant for discipline, Fran finds herself in a world she's been craving and nervous to enter. Jane Henry always makes me feel like I'm right there in the middle of whatever she's writing. There's nothing to not love about her characters. And the anticipation? Yes, just like any other story she has written, the anticipation kept me on the edge of my seat, the excitement kept my heartbeat racing and the chemistry had me turning up the AC.
