Chance Bridger may have been raised on the family ranch with the father who left him and his two half brothers billions, but he hated the man. Unlike his brothers, he can't escape his past, especially when it comes back to haunt him in the form of Avery Marsh.

Omg! Broken has to be my favourite out of this trilogy! I loved the conclusion to this series and Chance and Avery's story! They are my favourite out of the three couples. There were so many twists and turns, so many secrets, so many lies, and so much passion and heat in this book, it was addictive, I couldn't put it down! I've been a fan of Helen's books for some time now so I knew going into this book I would love it! I am eager to read more of Vanessa Vale's books now!
Thank you Valentine PR, Vanessa Vale & Helen Hardt for the ARC.
Portuguese & English Review
🇵🇹 : Este era sem dúvida o livro da trilogia que eu mais esperava ler: second chance, small town e secret son? Inscrevam-me!
Oh meu Deus. A maneira como ele ama e protege a Avery é tão, tão querida.
🇺🇸 : This book was without a doubt the one in the trilogy that I was most excited to read: second chance, small town and secret son? Sign me up!
The book was the best of the 3 mainly due to the development that MMC had in the previous books. This series is super easy to read, small and the language is super easy to understand if english isn’t your native language. Let's talk about the points that I loved in the book:
1. Chance. Since book 1 I knew Chance would be my favorite brother. The character was very well developed in the previous books and we could see how hardworking, genuine and concerned he was. But the romantic version of Chance? Oh my God. The way he loves and protects Avery is so, so cute.
2. Avery be part of the police forces. As in the previous book, the FMC has a very important role that I loved to see attributed to a woman, especially when she adds such to the characther.
3. The Bridger Brothers. It's a point I loved in all the books and this one didn't disappoint. The way everyone supports each other and seeing both Miles and Austin so happy was EVERYTHING.
For me, the only thing that was missing was more involvement on Grady's part, I feel like that was a part that needed to be explored and it wasn't. That aside, the mystery part (which was one of my favorites earlier) has been put to the side a bit. This series is perfect for anyone who enjoys small, small-town books.
The story is the final in The Billion Heirs series and involves three half-brothers, Austin, Miles, and Chance Bridger. The only thing these three really have in common is their sperm donor, Jonathan Bridger, who has died. He leaves a will with stipulations, all three of his sons must live together, in Bayfield, Montana, for one year to inherit the billions left to them.
Chance Bridger, the youngest, was raised by his father, but there was no close relationship. The only person that mattered to him was Avery Marsh and once she vanished without a word, he hardened his heart and worked as hard as he could on the ranch to drown out the pain. Avery Marsh has been away from Bayfield, Montana for fifteen years. But she is returning on an assignment involving the death of a man on Bridger's property. Avery is an FBI agent, and along with her partner, Roy Jarvis, they have a job to do, a case to solve, and to determine if Chance is guilty of murder. The story’s plot will be about young lovers back together, but it isn’t social, it involves a crime. The story contains lies, secrets, mystery, suspense, and revelations. The more that comes out, the more you ache for the travesty of Chance and Avery. When the case is solved, where will that leave them? The chemistry between Chance and Avery is as powerful, as it was as teenagers. Secretly, neither one has been able to move forward in their lives, still having feelings for one another. As the truth is exposed, yet secrets are still kept, what will happen next?
“Get your head out of the past and look to the future. You decide what you take from our father. Know what he did, and don’t do any of it. Be a man. Be there for your kid.”
Just when you think answers are coming and all will end easily, Chance’s past shows up. Literally. But she’s not here for a reunion or love or a second opportunity. Nope. She’s here to prove Chance’s guilt or innocence by solving the case. We know the victim. We know the where. But who’s the actual culprit?
Even worse, someone has secrets. Big, ugly ones that robbed others of their own shot at a lot of things in life. And while a secret can be kept if one person who knows it is dead, maybe it’ll all come out anyway because the dead has a way of sharing information anyway. Trust me when I say that the dead definitely keep records here. Chance and his brothers have a lot to wade through. Chance and Avery have to be honest (one more than the other). And maybe then, Chance can finally be happy. And Avery, too. Love doesn’t just fade for these two, so the ride from seeing each other again after so long to forever is a very bumpy one, but also feels like more of a certainty than it could be otherwise.
Buckle up, buttercup. This is the perfect way to finish the story of the billion heir brothers and the women they build their future with. I promise.
A*R*C for honest review with no compensation Received from Valentine PR
Broken is book 3 in the Billion Heirs series by Helen Hardt and Vanessa Vale and the final book of the Bridger brothers.
Back on the Wyoming ranch where Miles, Austin and Chance must spend a year in order to inherit billions while under the investigation for their deceased father’s dirty dealings.
This is Chance Bridger and FBI agent Avery March story. Chance and Avery were high school sweethearts until she leave and never comes back…until she is assigned to investigate the Bridger brothers about a murder. When she see Chance for the first time in 15 years it’s like being 18 again, all those feelings return…on both sides. What happens next keep you turning the pages!
Suspense, emotional, second chance romance, past mistakes, more secrets and so much more…what a fantastic ending to this amazing series!
Este fue el que más me gustó de la serie solo por el secret baby. Y todo el drama de ellos separados. De resto, exceso de drama Dios. La rosa de Guadalupe y todos los protagonistas de esta serie 😂.
What a fantastic and emotional conclusion to this wonderful trilogy! In book three we have the story of Chance Bridger, the son who was raised on the family ranch by a controlling and manipulative father, a man Chance hated. He's slowly gotten closer to both of his newly found brothers while they are forced to live on the ranch per the rules of the will, but still problems abound. There's still the matter of the dead body on the ranch, the problems with the EPA violations, and now the FBI's come calling. But nothing could prepare him when the FBI agent Avery Marsh, the love of Chance's life that disappeared her senior year of high school....
I've really enjoyed all the books in this series. The other two are instaloves, but Broken is a wonderful second chance story filled with secrets, lies, and betrayals. Chance is everything I love in a hero. Super dominant, possessive, but still manages to be very caring. The story is well written and fast paced. It held my attention right from the beginning and didn't let up. The ending was maybe a bit rushed for me, but it didn't spoil my overall enjoyment of the book. The chemistry between Chance and Avery is super hot and it certainly added to the hotness of the smexy times. Great book and definitely a series I'd recommend!
This is book three and the final book in The Billion Heirs Series and it is Chance and Avery's story and omg what an amazing ending to this series. Chance and Avery have history as they used to be so in love with each other and they were each other's firsts in everything that mattered only for it to end in heartbreak. Fifteen year's later and Avery is back in Bayfield as she is a special agent and her assignment is to look into the murder on the ranch and Chance is the prime suspect until he is proven not guilty. When Chance and Avery meet again is was as if time stopped but the connection, attraction, chemistry and love between them was as strong and intense as ever and you could feel it sizzling off the pages but a lot of water has gone under the bridge and neither are the same person that they used to be and even though every single time that they are near each other sparks fly and they can't stop thinking of each other where does that leave them with everything that is going on. There are twists and turns along with drama, suspense, betrayal, denial, but secret's, hope, love and some difficult situations that have you in tears but wow what an explosive outcome after everything that they have all been through because of the people close to them who had kept them apart for all these year's but true love really does win in the end and I am so glad that they were both able to sort everything out and get the happy ending that they all deserved. The characters and storyline pulled you in right from the first page and kept your attention throughout the whole book and I couldn't put it down as it was a real page turner and totally addictive and I can't wait to read more book's by these authors in the future.
Helen Hardt and Vanessa Vale give us a wonderful conclusion to their Billion Heirs series.
We've followed the three brothers who’ve never met grow and become more than just men who share DNA from their despicable father. They've grown to expect each other and love each other as brothers should.
Going into Broken I was extremely excited about finding out what and who killed Sadie's brother and what connection it had to Johnathan Bridger. I was most curious about Chance's story and to see of the resident Grumpy Cowboy was going to find his HEA.
In the beginning of the book Helen and Vanessa grabbed my attention and I was lost in Chance and Avery's story.
15 years ago Avery left town without a word and took Chance's heart with her. He threw himself into the Ranches business and never found that spark or the connection with any other women after her. He has loved one woman and only one woman and doesn't expect to ever feel that way again until she returns... Her return had nothing to do with her looking for a second chance at Love though. She is there on official business with the FBI to find out who killed Joseph Hopkins and when she solves it she's outta there.
Chance has so many emotions running through his heart. He wants to find out why she left after everything they shared. Why she stopped loving him and how she could go from one day ready to spe d the rest of their lives together to leave and never be heard from.
The determination of Chance is unwavering and he is relentless in his pursuit of the truth. When he finally gets her alone to confront her she drops a huge bomb. Her reason for leaving was his cruel letter but when he tells her he had no idea what she was talking about she realized then an their he never wrote it. After the long overdue apologizes their passion for each other ignite's. It's explosive and they can't stop.
There's more secrets she's keeping though and when her and her partner find Joseph Hopkins killer she has to leave Chance again no matter how bad she wants to stay.
Chance won't let her get away from him again and with his brothers they all go and follow her and are determined to bring her back and see they have their HEA. Her secrets are uncovered and Chance faces another dilemma. Their relationship is fragile and they have mountains of past mistakes and lies to overcome if they are going to find their Happiness with each other again.
Helen and Vanessa spin my emotions every which way in this book. I cried, laughed, had my heart broken, put back together then ripped out again only to be mended and replaced. So yeah you definitely have to read this. It's a journey that squeezes my heart and doesn't let go. I love love love this story.
Chance, accused of a murder he did not commit. Hopelessly in love with the one woman, who left and took his heart with her.
Avery, an FBI agent assigned to the case in which Chance is the prime suspect. Chance, the one man who broke her heart, fifteen years prior in a dear jane letter.
Chance and Avery come face to face again after fifteen years worth of lies have kept them apart.
After learning all the truths, no more lies to be told, what happens between Chance and Avery? Does Chance, take a chance and go after what should have been his long ago, or let lying dogs lay?
Broken, book 3 in the Billion Heirs Series, the final installment.
This book wraps it all up. No more loose ends. If you read Scarred and Flawed, you'll definitely want to read Broken, to learn what finally happens with Austin, Miles, Chance Bridger and their significant others.
This has been one fantastic series...I have thoroughly enjoy each book. I rate this book with 5 stars and recommend it along with Scarred and Flawed to you to read ASAP
Such a great series! The premise; Three brothers from three different mothers – Chance who is our focus grew up on the ranch and actually grew up with his father, but that was not a positive experience. Upon his fathers death -the will invites the other brothers (who never met their father) to the ranch for a year – after which they can split the inheritance. If all three do not acquiesce to his request they all lose their inheritance. A rocky start – through the first two stories, but now these brothers are tight.
Miles and Austin also found their “one”. Frustrating to Chance who has lived there his entire life and thought he had his “one” in high school, but no one really in the past fifteen years.
Murder, intrigue, suspicions, family and romance.
***** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book *****
I absolutely loved this book! I could not put it down. It grabs you from page one and you get so caught up in it that all of a sudden it’s over! You also don’t want it to be the end because that means the end of the series :( but what a series it was! Chance and Avery were boyfriend and girlfriend in high school and this did not end well. So when she shows up at the ranch it causes a lot of drama. We can only hope the Vanessa Vale and Helen Hardt get together again for another series!
3 brothers brought together for many different reasons….lots of money, a very mean man who is now no longer with us and brothers that really have had a lot in common and really deserved to get to know each other. Of course we had to add the twist of finding a dead body, and discovering illegal activities going on on the farm. We all know who is to blame but how do you blame a dead man and how do you figure out….who still knows what’s going on? Who still has their hand in the cookie jar? When accused Chance finds out that the FBI in investigating his case he ….not only knows he’s innocent, but he is surprised to meet agent Avery his one true love. The love he never forget about. They have a lot of catching up to do as she’s has some explaining to do. As everyone workers together they finally get this mystery solved. One by one truths are being unraveled. Can Chase and his brothers live together now happily with the woman they love and the family they created. This series has been a fast paced adventure with a lot going on. There has been emotional moments, tender moments and laugh out loud moments. I have Truly enjoyed each character and the amazing story that they told. I’m sad that this story is ending but I truly loved the story it told. I’m already excited to see what these authors come up with next!!
A second chance at love, a huge secret and the murder solved. The story has it all, what more could you ask for. Loved the story and I think you will too. I received a free copy of this book via Bookfunnel and are voluntarily leaving a review.
This is Chance and Avery's story and probably my favorite of the series. The last thing either of them expected was be in each others orbit again but the reasoning behind it is definitely not all puppies and rainbows but there’s so much past they need to discuss if only Avery can see if she still knows him after the events that are surrounding him. Great ending to a fabulous series
I’ve loved this Billion Heirs series and Chance and Avery’s second chance love story was the perfect way to end it. Their complicated journey is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. So many secrets and twisted lies to keep you completely captivated until the very end. I highly recommend adding this trilogy to your TBR.
MF/dual POV/second chance/first loves/secrets and deception/HEA
This is the 3rd and final book of the Billion Heirs Trilogy and while this does follow a new couple, it CANNOT be read as a standalone. Reading order is Scarred, Flawed, then Broken. Each book essentially ends with a HEA but the major plot is carried over the whole series.
This book follows the youngest brother, Chance Bridger. Chance grew up and stayed on the Montana ranch with his father even though he hated his father just as must as his brothers. 15 years ago, when the love of his life just disappeared, he threw himself even more into the ranch life. Now with his father deceased but still causing issues from the grave, and his new brothers banding with him through the murder accusations against him, he's been able to have more to his life then just the ranch. But when his first love pops up back in his life, working the case that should prove his innocence, he's determined he will not let her go again. She owes him answers and he will get them.
Avery left Montana with a broken heart and never looked back. 15 years later, now a federal agent for the FBI, she never expected to see Chance Bridger again. She definitely didn't expect her feelings to resurface full force. When it's clear she and Chance both have different recollections of what happened 15yrs ago, not only is she trying to solve the murder case Chance is involved in, she's also trying to figure out what actually happened all those years ago... and when they do, will the secret she's been keeping end them before they even get started again?
I really enjoyed Chance and Avery's story. I was so glad they were able to finally find their way back to each other after so many things kept them apart. More than a decade passed while their passion and chemistry never decreased and even seemed to come back ten-fold when they reunited. Chance was still possessive and dominant as Avery remembered but now he's all man. While Avery's secret shocked me, I did kind of guess what happened to cause the separation. In regards to the outcome of the murder mystery.... it felt a bit lacking I guess. This book definitely focused mostly on Chance and Avery's rekindling relationship, and I totally loved their characters, but it definitely felt like the murder case that we've invested in over the last two books took a backseat. It seemed a little to easily solved for the way it was built up over the last two books. I liked the bond the Bridger brothers were able to form when it seemed like they were to be pitted against each other. I really enjoyed this series that was filled with love and a little mystery. It kept me invested in the characters and their stories. I always love these ladies collaborations!
BROKEN, the conclusion to The Billion Heirs series, is finally upon us, and it is both emotional and captivating. This book is not a standalone as there is a continuing arc that runs through all three books. BROKEN is Chance Bridger's story, a second chance romance that has all the feels. It is a story of discovery, deceit, betrayal, and the rekindling of a love that never died.
Fifteen years ago, Chance Bridger was in love with his high school sweetheart, Avery Marsh. They were always meant to be together, but lies, manipulation and betrayal have torn them apart. Avery has returned to the Bridger Ranch as an F.B.I. agent investigating the murder of Joey Hopkins. Chance and Avery have unfinished business and the fire and chemistry reignites from the moment they are reunited. Their love story is an emotional one, he is completely dedicated to her and desperately wants her back in his life. Although she still loves him, Avery knows she is keeping a secret that could destroy any chances of having him in her life. What will Chance do when he learns the truth of Avery's secret?
The shadow of Jonathon Bridger has loomed darkly over the brothers' lives, but no more than in Chance's story. The way in which he manipulated and pressured people to get what he wanted clearly showed in his need to have control over Chance's earlier life. I loved that Chance and Avery worked to regain what they once had, it was a testament to the love they still had for each other.
The growth of the relationship between the Bridger brothers is what I really enjoyed about this series. Even though Chance, Austin, and Miles didn't like the terms of their father's will, it enabled them to form a brotherhood they never expected. BROKEN was the perfect conclusion to this amazing series.
Vanessa Vale and Helen Hardt had me laughing, sighing, and raging throughout this series ... I can only hope they decide to co-author again.
BROKEN is a highly recommended read, but please read the books in order.
Chance Bridger has sort of been a mystery to readers throughout this series. While he grew up on the ranch, it is clear that he hasn’t had the perfect life. His father made his life very difficult. Some may think Chance’s life was glamorous given that his father had so much money, but the things that make a life wonderful aren’t what money can buy. As the investigation continues and starts to narrow in on Chance his past blows into town. Avery Marsh. The girl that got away, and the girl that broke Chance’s heart is back. When Avery Marsh left Bayfield, Montana she hoped she never would return. Now in her new role in the FBI she is back, and facing the man that broke her heart 15 years ago. When this couple came face to face after 15 years of being apart I almost squealed with excitement. It was so perfect. A lot has happened for both of these characters in the last 15 years, and they each have their own idea of what broke them apart. They are both hurt, and have dealt with challenges and life away from each other. I really love how this author duo showed us the bone deep connection that Avery and Chance have. It is easy to tell readers that they are meant to be together, but it is another to show readers. Avery and Chance are drawn to each other, and thrive when the other is near. They have an intense emotional and physical connection, and it is STEAMY! So steamy, and just the right amount. When the past interferes in their future I was holding my breath….this HEA was 15 years in the making and so hard earned. I also thought I couldn’t hate a character more than Jonathan Bridger, after the previous books. But nope, his evil continues. As much as I hate him, he also gave us these three amazing brothers that we all fell in love with. I am sad that this Bridger brothers series is over, but so happy that we got to meet them and their amazing women that make them so happy! I hope that Vanessa Vale and Helen Hardt give us more, because these books were amazing!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.
Chance Bridger may have been raised on the family ranch with the father who left him and his tow half brothers billions, but he hated the man. Unlike his brothers, he can't escape his past, especially when it comes back to haunt him in the form of Avery Marsh.
This is the conclusion to the series The Billion Heirs. This is Chance and Avery's story. If you ask me the old adage save the best for last applies to this last book in this series. I absolutely feel head over heels for Chance and Avery. We all have questions about things and you are going to get those answers and just when you think thing might just settle for a few seconds Chance's past comes walking right back into his life. She's not hear for a reunion, she is here to either prove that he is innocent or he is guilty. To do this the case has to be solved once and for all. Well all know who the victim is, but who done it is the question. You would think that would be the main big thing going on, but there are huge secrets someone is hiding. There are huge life changing secrets that changed a lot of lives that could have gone a different direction if this secret hadn't been kept. To say chance and his brother's have a lot going on and to figure out in this book is an understatement. Avery isn't out of this either. She and Chance have to be honest with each other. These are two people who were once madly in love and hadn't seen each other in a very long time. However the feelings they once had for one another are still there and growing by the day. Can they find the killer? Survive all the secrets? Will Avery and Chance find their happily ever after? You have to read to find out. I for one loved this book. It is amazing and you will not be able to put it down.
The Billion Heirs series has returned with Broken, the final installment in this gripping series. As always I recommend reading a series in order, this one included, while Broken can be read as a standalone, the series in total makes much more sense.
Chance, Miles and Austin are strangers to one another until they find out they share a father in Jonathan Briger. After he dies, the new brothers learn that to inherit they must live together in Montana for a period of a year. Each brother has their own reasons for staying, and each book gives us their story. We’ve watched as Austin and Miles found what they were looking for, now it's time for Chance.
Chance is the youngest of the brothers, and was also no stranger to Jonathan Briger. He technically was raised by the man, if what he did could be called child rearing. Their relationship was rocky at best. The only thing that got Chance through life was Avery Marsh. Or at least she was before she up and left him.
Broken is a second chance (no pun intended) romance filled with love, lies and secrets. When Avery returns to Bayfield for the first time in fifteen years, it's not for fun, she’s here as a FBI agent investigating a death on Chance’s property. But being back is bringing long buried feelings to the surface, feelings that Chance can never know about. Things that Chance can never know about. As Avery digs into the case and secrets become known, the chemistry between the pair flair back to life. Can they let go of the past and move on to a better future? What happens when the case is over, will Avery stay and rebuild or run again?
These authors never disappoint! Broken was the perfect ending to an amazing series. Chance and Avery are a lovely pair that bring mystery and love to life. The brothers become just that through the series, brothers and family.
READ AS AN ARC! BROKEN BY HELEN HARDT AND VANESSA VALE COMING ON JANUARY 17TH, 2023!
This third book in The Billion Heirs series features Chase and his high school sweetheart, Avery.
This story has been an amazing ride!
I started reading this book and again was unable to put it down. I really should know better than to read a Helen or Vanessa book before bed thinking "I'll just read two chapters".
While Chase's half brothers have both found the loves of their lives, Chase has decided that his chance for love left when they were 18 years old without so much as a goodbye...breaking his heart.
Meanwhile, Avery has been through her own heartbreak when she leaves behind the only place she called home for Phoenix, Arizona.
That is until 15 years later, Avery comes crashing into Chase's life. As one of the FBI agents sent to assist the Billings FBI in investigating everything Jonathan Bridger and the murder of Joseph Hopkins, brother of Sadie, the girlfriend of Miles, whose body was found on Bridger land.
Both Chase and Avery have issues that they each need to work through from their pasts and it breaks your heart as you read the lies that were spun to both of them.
Watching Chase and Avery piece together the lies of their pasts was truly amazing to watch.
And because the Bridger sperm donor father is already dead makes me really wish that he could have still been alive to watch the world that he so carefully created fall apart.
While I know this is the last of the series, I would love to visit with each of these characters again. It made my angsty heart happy.
This book was the last in The Billion Heirs series and perfect conclusion to it! I devoured this book in one sitting and I couldn't get enough of Chance and Avery's second chance at love.
I love the plot of this series, three brothers forced to come together after the death of their absently father in order to complete the stipulations of his will and while in the beginning they were distant to each other in this book you can really see the bonding and love they learn to have for one another.
I think from the three brothers in the series I wanted Chance's story because from the three he was the one that was raised with Jonathan Bridger and saw all his faults as a father but it always made me wonder why he never left and in this book you learn how he became the man he is and the love he lost with no explanations, Avery March.
So when FBI agent Avery, Chance's high school sweetheart and only love shows up in his ranch to continue the investigation of a murder case things get very interesting because Chance refuses to back down, he needs an explanation of why she left the way she did taking his heart with her but what he finds is more than what he expected.
Secrets, betrayals, lies and suspense you find it here but also a beautiful second chance at love with emotional moments and plenty of steam to keep turning the pages on this book.
This book was so disappointing and I don't understand how has it gotten so many good ratings. I wasn't aware that it is part of a series so I'm guessing that it's connected to a mysterious crime that took place in this town. I didn't really feel the chemistry between Chance & Avery. They got together very easily and there wasn't much of angst like I expected there to be. Chance should've been more pissed considering A very hid his son from him for fourteen freaking years all because of a silly misunderstanding. Avery was so frustrating and had so many chances of telling Chance the truth but she chose to run away like a coward and kept him in the dark until the very end. Her mother was another vile and selfish character and I couldn't understand how they still let her be a part of their lives when she and Chance's father were solely responsible for their separation. I felt so angry when she did not face any consequences, especially when she was telling Chance the half baked truth when their son was in the hospital. Every character was superficial and I could not feel the bond between any of them. Also the mystery regarding the killer was handled so lightly and by that time, I was bored by the plot so I started to skip some paragraphs which is why the identity of the culprit hit me out of nowhere. The plot has lots of potential but the execution was very poor tbh. Do not waste your time on it if you are looking for a serious and complex thriller to read.
The perfect ending of a series. Chance has never forgotten Avery. They were each other’s firsts. They planned to be together forever. But one day she left without so much as a goodbye or an explanation as to why. She is now here as a special FBI agent investigating the murder and Chance is a prime suspect. The love he felt for her fifteen years ago has never gone away. He has never been able to move on. From the time she left he has thrown himself into the ranch. It is the only thing that has helped him go on without her. Now that she is here maybe he can find some closure and move on. What he does find is more questions. When they get the answers to these questions things move in a direction neither one expected. The more they dig the more secrets come out. But through it all, their love has never gone away. People may have tried to keep them apart but their love is so strong, nothing can keep them apart. It may have taken years to find each other again but they now are able to have their happily ever after and forever. Chance knew his father was an evil man but did not know until now the depths he would go to get what he wanted. His father may have thought he won but in the end true love prevailed and their love survived. A love story of never giving up and true love winning over evil.
The conclusion of the Billion Heirs series is a second chance romance with so many secrets.
Chance Bridger experienced a significant amount of suffering at his father’s hands, but he didn’t know the worst of it until his high school girlfriend comes back to town as the FBI agent investigating a murder where he is one of the prime suspects.
Avery was the love of his life who disappeared without a word one day after they made love in the spring on the edge of the Bridger Ranch. She comes to town with an attitude ties up with the cruel letter she got signed by Chance.
I enjoyed this book, but I was a little disappointed because it felt like it was rushed. A few more chapters could have been written to really bring closure to the many secrets uncovered and to make some introductions long overdue. There were several things that were brought up and then quickly glossed over.
My favorite part of this series has been the three brothers bonding and having each other’s backs. The murky business dealings of their father were somewhat brushed over after being a significant factor in the storyline in the previous books. It was a little anticlimactic in how that was resolved especially after Chance discovers his father’s secret files.
I received a free ARC from the authors and their PR company; and I am voluntarily leaving an unbiased review.
I have to admit I was drawn into this book, hook line and sinker and ended up reading it ine session. The final book in the Trilogy and we get to know Chance a lot lot better.
The mystery of who murdered Sadie's brother (Sadie has found love with Chance's brother Miles) looms over all the brothers. The timeline of the murder has excluded Miles and Austin, leaving only Chance as the potential murderer. Special Agent Avery Marsh is sent to Bayfield in order to investigate the murder. She grew up in Bayfield, Chance and Avery were a couple until the night after graduation. That night was special to both Chance and Avery, but the following morning Avery and her mother left Bayfield, Chance had no idea why and couldn't find her.
18 years later she's back. Avery needs to do her job and find out if Chance is a murderer. Chance wants know why Avery left without a word all those years ago. What neither realise is that lies, corruption, and Chance's evil father was responsible. As Avery navigates the murder and her feelings for Chance, she also has to consider the secret she is also hiding. Chance is also trying to piece together what happened all those years ago and prove his innocence in the murder.
There's plenty of action, lies, secrets, corruption and deceit in this book, which make you angry and bring you tears. I loved it just so sad it had to end.
