ディノサン [Dinosan] #2

Dinosaur Sanctuary Vol. 2

Rate this book
When dinosaurs were found to have survived to modern times, people were enthralled--until a catastrophic incident drove dino-mania to extinction. When Kaidou, who was there to witness it, opens up about what happened, the rookie keeper Suma Suzume learns more about the disaster--and her coworker--than she ever expected. But that's far from the only thing on her mind. Whether it's raising a baby Troodon or throwing a birthday party for a geriatric T. rex, there's always plenty for Suzume to do at Dinoland!

The author seems to course correct a bit from the first volume, finding a slightly better balance between the educational and dramatic aspects. He also delivers up a little dino violence in addition to the more slice of life stories about an imprinted infant dinosaur, a little high school romance, and an aging dinosaur. I worry there might be a bit of overcorrection as a dozen new characters are introduced in the course of the book.

Still, I'm feeling a little momentum growing and will try the third volume when it shows up at my local library.

Another fantastic installment of this manga, and I now fully intend to read the complete manga as it is adorable, sometimes tense (the Allosaurus bit), often hilarious (trying to housesit a troodontid, who has a taste for aquarium fish) and based on real science! The dinosaur art here is amazing, detailed and lifelike - in appearance and behaviours. Dinosaurs are not shown as monsters, but as animals (which they were) and the appropriate species have feathers. Also fun and informative is the commentary for each installment by a paleontologist, describing stuff like the wrist motions of theropods and why velociraptors would not be able to open doors like in Jurassic Park, where the best cuts of meat are on an Edmontosaurus and how new species are named and on which characteristics. I myself am a bit of dinonerd and even I learned some new stuff here. There are a few mysteries sprinkled through the story, but really this is a slice of life story about a girl who happens to work at a dinosaur sanctuary. A dream come through for her as it would be for me (hey, she has an aquarium, so I instantly felt I could identify with her). Recommended for manga readers and dinosaur enthousiasts especially!

I enjoyed this continuation and still enjoy all of the things that I loved about Vol. 1. However, I was unprepared for the harsh reality brought into the storyline. There is tragedy, both for humans and dinosaurs, in this park's history.

I'm undecided if I'll continue with this story, but I think the gates have opened up since the probationary period has ended and we'll get to see all of the different areas of the park.

3.5*

While there is more action in this installment, this is another series of stories involving daily life in a quiet dinosaur park. My favorite part was the piece on the elderly tyrannosaurus. It was a bit similar to the first volume's focus on the aging triceratops, but these wistful narratives of older generations simply reflect the nostalgia of considering the Mesozoic Era in the first place. It is refreshing to see this side of dinosaur storytelling, even if this set of tales does include one scene of violence told in a flashback episode.

I am here for the dinosaurs. And Kaidou. But mainly the dinos.
And dino science!!

In this one we learn the reason why, in this case this park, fell out of popularity. And I really liked how they made the whole plot line and delivered it. But also how hard it really can be to take care of one of those tiny, cute little dinos.

Very cute art. So yeah. I will be sitting down and looking forward to the next one!

This is the manga I didn't know I needed. The story is set in an alternative Japan where they discovered dinosaurs still exist.

We follow a new worker at a Dinosaur zoo/park , as she learns how to take care of the dinosaurs. I found the story extremely heartwarming and entertaining. There were also many cute extra details about the park like, imagining the food that would be sold there(like stegosaurus shaped hot dogs?). This is a must read!!

I'm a sucker for Dino content. They're just always so cool to see. And this book treats them like a zoo which is such a neat idea.

We learn about the tragic pass, a death of a father, and we also learn a lot more about the mindset of a certain character. I really enjoyed all that. The taking care of a dino at home is a interesting choice but overall worked out with a bitter sweet but somewhat happy ending. A 4 out of 5.

Volume 2 is finally here and I'm raring to go, I LOVE Dinosaurs.

We get to see more of Kaidou's past from when he was just a trainee at Dinoland 15 years ago.

Benkei the baby Troodon is now in the hands of Suma as they have imprinted on her.

The storyline is going strong and has lots more Dino surprises 🥰.

Swipe to see how cute baby Benkei is.

after the ending of book 1, I thought this one would really ramp up the plot. instead we got a somewhat poorly thought out incident, and i didn't feel like enough time was spent on it.

instead of a larger story or more compelling plot being generated from the incident, we pass over it and it's back to business as usual. it's still a fun story, but it's lacking that larger conflict

Ughhhhhhhh!!! This is such a good series! Sometimes I just need a wholesome book that leaves me feeling good. And these are what it would be like if Jurassic Park were just a regular zoo, without all of the scary dino attacks.

I had this one borrowed too so I read it. I probably won't continue it as it's not really my kind of thing. It's slice of life zookeeping with dinosaurs. It's pretty lighthearted but then has some weirdly dark tone shifts. Not sure what they're going for. The characters are pretty 2d.

The manga: dinosaurs aren't pets
Also the manga: makes them so irresponsibly cute I want nothing more than to have a pet dino

I love this so much. The information is accurate, the dinosaurs are drawn perfectly and all the stories draw me in right away. Can't wait for the "unusual dinosaurs" and some water dino's

This was better than volume one, but it still lacks a coherent, interesting plot. I will not be continuing this series, unfortunately -- it had such potential.

Another fun volume of the dinosaur zookeepers! The backstory of the tragedy 15 years ago was great, as was trying to keep the dinosaurs relevant, and the bit with raising a newborn!
