THE NECROMANCER Michelle was brutally attacked in her locked hotel room in Las Vegas. The police didn't believe her and thought she must have lured a man up to her hotel room for a little sexual adventure, which went dangerously out of control. Michelle sustained visible scars from the terrifying and almost lethal attack, but pure fear motivated the move from her home in California to Hawaii. She's scared her attacker will come back. She's sure the next time he'll kill her. Now she has a successful career and she figures abstinence is an acceptable, if lonely, way to live.Michelle decides an affair with a wickedly handsome man who moves into her building might cure her of the humiliating, embarrassing, and uncontrollable anxiety attacks which plague her whenever she finds herself alone with a man. How could she know that she made the worst possible choice? Omar Satinov, the man Michelle has chosen, is a secret, whispered legend across several continents. His lure is a mystical religion based upon Witchcraft; his hook, the addictive herbal products he sells his followers. But does he really have supernatural powers, as many of his disciples believe? _________________________Reviews ...I would recommend this book very highly! Trifecta: This is the big one. A compilation of three novels, The Living Image, Midnight Reflections and The Necromancer http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006O1W8GI
Being from Honolulu myself, I really enjoyed the references to some of my old haunts in Necromancer. However, I never knew so much intrigue was going on!
The story takes tropical everyday and twists a nice dose of magic into it so convincingly you'll swear you've seen it yourself. The characters grow into personalities that showcase Ms. Richter's talent for infusing life into her story. They all move in their own directions, set loose by her words and pace.
Get this on the Kindle, take your sun hat to the beach and enjoy!
I am giving this book three stars because while entertaining some of the events and characters in this book are just preposterous and silly.
For example, Heather, the best friends, seems to have the emotional and social maturity of a thirteen year old. The professor cannot seem to make up his mind rather he believes in the paranormal and witchcraft or not. He also speaks during different parts of the book about Wiccans and Satanists and in both cases what he has to say is laughably incorrect. The police, who are called in a few times, for various reasons, behave like no police force ever would. *mild spoiler in next sentence* If you ever have to call the police in the real world because you believe someone has delivered a human heart and liver to your apartment you can just go ahead and cancel your party plans for the evening, because they aren't just swing by your place and pick up the organs and leave. *spoiler over*
All that aside, I found myself caught up in the story almost from the start. Even when I was rolling my eyes and thinking "that would never happen" or "no sane person would have that reaction", I really wanted to find out what happened next.
First and foremost this is not a book I would recommend for anyone under 17.. there is a bit of the story that includes rape which well is quite descriptive and chilling. The story I felt is more about Michelle and Omar. The story takes place in Hawaii. Michelle having had terrible ordeals in her past, including drinking is quite the timid about men to the point of panic. She is however also very strong and loyal and that character really evolves later in the book.
Omar totally a dark wicked necromancer. He has discovered who his perfect woman would be and is set to take ahold of her. He is a hell of a villain, borderline psychotic.
The author does a great job in being descriptive for her characters...I did have a little struggle right in the beginning but gradually clamped down and took it all in. A great story full of witchcraft, hardship, murder, rape, suspense, horror. Its a mixture for everyone. This really can be disturbing to some, but for a paranormal fan it was pretty spot on. I'd give this book a solid 3.5 for sure.
Having read my fair share of paranormal books generally in young adult this particular story is a refreshing departure. Some what creepy and thrilling with mystery and a bit of a historic lesson regarding the occult. Certainly for mature readers as the content deals with rape and murder.I also have to note that I loved the setting in Hawaii. It is a perfect choice for those Halloween challenges. My second book by this author and I'm definitely looking forward to reading my third.
Whew!!!! What an amazing journey of good vs evil. This book is an eye-opening experience full of witches, magic, life and death. The characters are impressive. They are well developed and have distinct personalities. The story is unique and creative. It is unlike anything I have ever read. The storyline covers an elaborate chess gave of the maternal mother of three girls born within minutes of each other and their father. This story has so many twists and turns, ups and downs. There is a background sexual assault, enslaved covens, deceit, spells and addicting potions, lotions, etc. The story takes you on a trip to Europe, to the states and then to Hawaii. The father, Omar, uses black magic to kidnap the mother, Michele, who possesses natural psychic powers. Omar wanted to have children that would have the propensity to have a greater power than he or Michelle combined. He wanted the children to use them for his own nefarious reasons. He uses Michele against her will. He harvests her eggs. Fertilizes they with his sperm and implants them in a woman named Leilanie. Leilanie thinks she is in love with Omar, but things change. Now is the beginning of the tug of war, the back and forth for the lives of the three beautiful gifted girls. Shelly, Petal and Ivory are only four years old but are so aware, intuitive and gifted. An amazing book. I highly recommend it. I received an Advanced Readers Copy of this book from Shifted Sheets and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a different genre for me. Last time I read anything like it was many years ago when I read Dracula. Liked the writing style: fast moving and worldly (for lack of a better word that I can think of). Don't think I will get further into the witchcraft genre, but my compliments to Pamela Richter for an exciting job of story telling.
Michelle attracts the attention of an evil man, Omar. She and a group of friends must find a way to defeat him. It won't be easy, he has witches in his side, along with powers of his own. Fast paced action, with plenty of twists. I recommend!
Wow I almost gave up on this book because for some reason I just had a hard time getting into the proper mind set to enjoy it. But I kept on and ended up that I couldn’t put it down as it became engrossing to me. Good action and with quite a cast of characters
I'm becoming quite a fan of P.M. Richter. This is the 2nd book of hers I've read. I'm drawn into the character's lives and feel every emotion right along with them. I like that the story has an ending instead of a cliffhanger, yet clearly the story does continue for 2 more books.
Summary Don't let the cover fool you. This isn't a light hearted fantasy or romance. The Necromancer by Pamela Richter is the story of Michelle, a young woman who has survived a brutal rape and built a new life in Hawaii. When her new neighbor Omar moves into her building, everything starts going wrong with Michelle's life, even as she tries to convince herself everything is fine. This book is full of dark magic, evil intent, and horrifying consequences. Fear not, everyone gets what they truly deserve in the end, but it's a long, thrilling ride to get there. One which may result in you temporarily needing a nightlight and checking under the bed for monsters.
Fantasy World You will feel the island breezes and may develop a desperate need to go to the beach. The scenic descriptions are absolutely wonderful. Put on some suntan lotion and make a drink with a little umbrella to really revel in the ambiance.
Tingle Factor Michelle definitely gets a tingle from Omar, but it's more of the type you receive from a tazer. There is another romantic interest which appears in the book, but you'll have a long wait until Michelle can get over her issues enough to get busy. The sex isn't terribly hot, but then it's not the main focus of this book. The Necromancer is more of a mystery thriller where the romance takes a back seat.
Romance A very little and it develops very slowly. True romance or paranormal romance readers will probably not be happy with this book.
Drama The Necromancer has lots of drama and enough tension to keep you up nights. The author moves between viewpoints with many plot twists and turns. Some you may be able to anticipate, but others are likely to take you by surprise and make your heart pound.
Heroine Michelle is an interesting character. She's a rape survivor and also a former alcoholic who has channeled her angst into becoming a workaholic. She has many issues resulting from her attack such as fear of men, fear of intimacy, and anxiety attacks. She does her best to work through them and make herself move on, which is commendable, even though her choice of man with which to start is not. Michelle's real fault lies in not trusting herself or her own perceptions and trying to do the smart thing which in this story isn't helpful at all. Once she does start to figure out what's really going on, she kicks some ass though!
Villain There is a hero, but the main focus of The Necromancer is the villain, Omar. He is truly evil and shrinks from no crime including drug trafficking, sexual abuse, and even murder. He's very smart and completely psychotic. You'll love to hate him and all his minions!

This is a dark character driven story and the author spends a lot of time developing her main characters and giving us a detailed history of the mystical religion based upon Witchcraft. Michelle is a strong character in this story, despite her anxiety attacks and being a recovering alcoholic. Omar is evil personified, with a handsome face that lures you in like a drug, which he uses to control his followers around the world. He has a plan for Michelle and will not be deterred.
There is a lot of narration in this story with an omniscient POV where the narrator tells us what the characters are thinking and how others reacted to situations that were happening. At times I could see where this POV was acceptable, but too much of this takes me out of the story. I felt like this book crossed that line.
This is a highly detailed and unique story that propels the character driven plot. I found the dialogue was mostly believable for the situations the characters were in. Professor Vincent Middleton is our occult scholar who has set out to debunk Omar’s magical status. He is a slimy character that uses one of his promising female students as bait to get closer to Omar and it almost costs Suzanne her life. The professor seemed to vacillate in his knowledge or just not accept what he had seen or learned about Omar. I suspect a copy-editing error because at one point in the story his name changed to Vincent Conway.
There were twists I did not see coming and it turned the story into a captivating adventure. The author takes us to some very dark places to show us that good will always triumph over evil.
There are a large number of proofing and copy-editing problems in this book. Several are mostly minor irritants of missing words in a sentence or extra words that have been repeated. Other times it was letters left off a word that changed that word completely, such as ‘though’ and ‘thought’ or using the word ‘expensive’ when ‘expense’ was clearly the word needed. These type of editing errors threw me out of the story. I felt like this was a four star book but because of the number of editing errors I deducted one star. Another round of proofing and copy-editing would do a world of good for this book.
This book contains rape scenes, adult language that may be offensive to some, and very large creepy bugs.

The story gives a lot of background information about Witchcraft which I kind of found interesting. I mean I guess it needed to be said but what the author intended certainly superceded its unrealistic paranormal vibe. After all Wicca is considered a religion and rape is a serious crime. Those facts alone are what make this story kinda scary.
Were it not for this book I would've never known, for example, that the religion of witchcraft has over 200,000 adherents in the United States, alone. There are five times as many witches as there are Quakers; more witches than there are Unitarians or Buddhists. There are at least 5,000 covens in the United States AND to the witches, God was both male and female, father and mother of all things. A strict 'witch's ethic' forbade Wiccans from accepting money for training or initiating anyone into their religion. They also view sex as a sacrament.
Michelle didn't know what she was getting into when she chooses to have an affair with Omar the Necromancer. He IS the bane of her existence as her rapist, but she didn't know that. Her memories were wiped clean among other things when she was raped by his pet human, Samson. Omar had another pet; Lucifer the adorable kitten whom he used to perform magical services.
"This is a special cat. Omar's cat." Heather sighed. "A bewitched cat who eats human organs."
I fell in love with this cute kitten nevermind Rod Nakamura! lol
Omar wanted Michelle to be a High Priestess but she needed to be tested by blood, water and fire . All that did was make Michelle stronger in her supernatural abilites. She had a gift of healing and was sorta psychic. The battle between Omar and Michelle on the beach was fun and extraordinary. I really enjoyed that part. It wasn't your normal physical fight but more of the mind. I love the ocean! when Vincent and Michelle were swimming and fighting for their lives. It was exhilirating and exciting. Overall this is a great book and I recommend it to the adventuresome.
What an interesting take on witchcraft, magic, and the paranormal. I originally picked up this ebook on amazon before the tour was announced. And then I figured since I had it, I should use my money spent in a productive way. Lol!
let me start by saying this is not on the side of lighter happier stories. It’s dark, sometimes gruesome and pretty scary. It’s got a more serious tone and you are literally in the head of a total serial psychopath! It’s also got the main character going through some very traumatic moments. But I hope that doesn’t sway you from reading it. It’s very interesting.
in the beginning, I thought it was starting slow because of a lot of background information but then I was really interested in the info being explained. And some of the characters are very intriguing. I really liked Heather and Nakamaru. I can identify with Heather. But sometimes I thought all of the different POVs were a little confusing. But it also offered things you wouldn’t know or understand if it were first person or only one or two people in third person POVs.
and then there’s the whole incident with connecting with your attacker because you don’t know he’s your attacker. This whole part really freaked me out. I think because it’s quite believable! I mean you would never think your attacker would befriend you and try to seduce you after he’s attacked you. This is a very big scary thing to me, so Ms Richter- way to totally up the creepy factor!! there’s no question for me as to who’s the bad guy here!
I will definitely keep this for adult readers only! And to those of you who enjoy the novels that let you see into the bad guy’s head- this is definitely for you. Such a unique novel! Oh and my dense self needs to say that I did really like the writing style. Plus, who doesn’t love a good writer who can scare you, make you think, and fascinate you all in one! 3.5 PAWS FROM ME!!
The Necromancer is the story of Michelle. She is the survivor of a brutal attack that occurred while she was living in Vegas. Michelle decides to start life anew in Hawaii, and begins taking her life back. She is a very career driven woman, and she learns karate for protection and empowerment. Her only problem is her social life; it is stifled because of her fear of men. She meets Omar, and decides he is the one that will get her over her fear, but something about him just isn’t right.
I may be all alone in this one, but I liked Omar’s character. There is nothing that is endearing about him, but he is the perfect villain. He is dark, cruel, strange, and quite frankly psychotic. It’s been a while since I stumbled upon a character so devious, and it was a welcome change. Michelle is the total opposite; as Omar put it, they are yin and yang. Despite her fears, she is a very strong woman who has endured unspeakable trauma. I found her character to be admirable.
This story was different from anything I have read in a while. I thought the beginning moved a little slow, but after that I was really caught up in the book. It was well written and easy to follow, and most of all very imaginative. Richter didn’t take the path of the popular paranormal romance, although romance is hinted at. This book was almost sinister!
If you like your paranormal reads with a little edge or a fan of books with sorcerers and magic, give this story a try. If you are a fan of horror and suspense, this creepy read is a must!

This story introduces us to Michelle, who is a hard working property manager. She has a fear of men due to a brutal attack suffered in a hotel room. She finds solace working hard, taking karate lessons and trying to continue working on her sobriety. She meets a man named Omar, and there is a weird attraction to him. Not really a romantic attraction but some sort of draw to this guy. So Michelle decides, why not try to use this guy to get over her phobia of men since she isn’t really in danger of falling in love him. Maybe a sexual relationship will help her get over that hump so she can finally have a real relationship with the opposite sex. But there is something weird about his guy. She has nightmares and he just seems to perfect. Slowly we begin to learn more about Omar. He is sorcerer/wizard or magic using necromancer. He starts affecting things around Michelle. Then we are unclear if his intentions towards Michelle are moral or malicious.
I enjoyed this story because it wasn’t an overly romantic PNR and it was definitely different from the typical witch and vampire stories. It wasn’t filled with gratuitous sex or cheesy love lines. There was a solid foundation that the author built and the characters were likable. I couldn't put this book down because I just had to know what would happen next. I think this author is one to watch. I will definitely read her other books.
(Disclosure - I received this book free in an author giveaway.)
This book and I got off to a rough start. Initially, many of the characters were either unlikeable or too inconsistent for me to care about. Michelle, the main character, seems rather chilly, distant and intelligent, yet simultaneously stupid and unthinking in ways that don't really add up for me.
I also got hung up on some errors that I encountered in the book - common misspellings and homonym errors - as well as some facts that didn't wash. I felt as though some things were just thrown in so as not to waste the research, so to speak.
The first character that intrigued me was Nakamura. Soon, Michelle's interactions with Nakamura started giving her character more depth and realism. I'm not sure where exactly, but somewhere just past the halfway point, I got sucked in and really started to enjoy the book. The cast of characters came together and meshed, I started to care about the good guys, and there was enough action and momentum to carry me past the small issues.
Though I nearly gave up on the book early on, I'm glad I stuck with it. Yes, it needs editing - both for errors and for a few instances of foreshadowing that go nowhere - but the story works out and I think the book redeems itself.
Michelle was savagely raped and then almost gutted by her rapist. She still has debilitating panic attacks around men. Children are taken out of the equation. She is also a recovering alcoholic. Fast forward. Michelle is now in charge of the operations of many high end buildings/properties in Hawaii. Her bosses expect only the best and she gives it.
She meets a captivating man and agrees to meet with him for drinks (hers will be non-alcoholic of course). His name is Omar and he has a mesmerizing personality. He is dangerous. He is a Necromancer and he wants her.
Michelle's buildings that she's responsible for begin experiencing floods, air conditioning breakdowns, power outages, etc. Her friends and acquaintances have "accidents" and injuries. A few women are raped and murdered throughout this whole mess. What the hell is going on?!
This book is intricate, emotional, action filled and the characters find themselves teetering on the edge of what they believe to be real and what is fantastic. It was a long book and I felt the ending wrapped up just a little too prettily. I felt it needed a happy, yet disturbing ending considering all the sadistic things that happened throughout the tale. See for yourself...if you dare.
I can't decide if I like this book or not. It went back and forth between being completely gripping and tedious. One problem I had was Michelle is a woman who was sexually assaulted, yet she keeps hanging around this weird guy. I understand that Omar has this strange power over her, and that Michelle thinks she is being paranoid thanks to her previous experience, but Michelle continuously comments on how creepy she finds him, yet she keeps dating him. It makes no sense. It is explained a little better further into the book why she keeps being pulled in his direction, but by then the reader is already frustrated.
I loved the interactions between Michelle and her boss, who was fairly interesting. However, I didn't like that these scenes felt completely disjointed from the rest of the story. It didn't flow very well.
There was a bit of a formatting issue, too, because it would abruptly change to another character's perspective without any warning. Not even a page break. It was fairly confusing.
I would give the book a try (maybe once the formatting issues are fixed) because the plot is a good one. I think the execution was a little shaky, but that doesn't make it any less of an imaginative story.
This was a well written, entertaining story. The characters were all well rounded and seemed real. The main character, Michelle (Shelly to her friends) is someone I'd love to be friends with. She was the victim or a horrific attack that forever changed her and she is still dealing with the residual emotional toll it has taken on her. However, she has a great and lucrative job that she loves and a best friend and neighbor, Heather and she is happily living in Hawaii. Then Omar, the handsome, exotic stranger moves into her building and things get weird. I really enjoyed how the story unfolded and now that the story is done, I feel like I miss my friends. To me that's a sign of a good book.
This is a dark story though. There are some psychological elements (that I won't divulge) that add a depth of horror that is unmistakable and uncommon. I highly recommend this book, but not for children! :)
After being brutally attacked in her Las Vegas hotel room, Michelle Montgomery decided to move to Hawaii to make a new start. Having troubles being around men, Michelle, a hotshot property manager, decides she needs to change. She decides to have an affair with a strange tenant of her condo, Omar Sativov. But, Omar turns out to be more than merely strange; he’s into witchcraft and believes he can communicate with the spirits of the dead. Worse, wherever he goes, death seems to follow him. As the relationship develops, Michelle finds herself and all close to her in grave danger. With the help of Vincent Middleton, a university professor, she determines to bring Omar down—but, can she do it before he gains total control over her? The Necromancer by Pamela M. Richter is a riveting story of paranormal suspense. There are a few abrupt transitions that disrupt story flow, and a lot of head hopping from one character to another, but it’s still a good read.
This books is completely chilling and creepy.I would have given the book another star except for all the descriptive off camera recaps of several different rapes that happen in the story. They are pretty gruesome and honestly as a women I don't need to read about rape I get it I don't need all the gory details. This book is defiantly for older audiences. The end kinda of petered out as well I'm not sure if she's planning a sequel or not, but there really is no true resolve to the story. I almost put the book down several times because of the rape scenes but wanted to get to the end and the conclusion so I could feel better about being involved in this story......
Couldn't make up my mind whether to award 4 or 5 stars. Description of Hawaiian Isles, use, knowledge & understanding of psychology within her characters situations & throughout her story, accurate research of Pagan/Wiccan religions and characters actions linked to this; are all extremely good and worthy of 5 stars. One or two things particularly literacy errors reduced the book down to perhaps 4 stars. I've gone with overall 5 stars as budding authors need encouragement. I look forward to reading more of Pam Richter's work.
I have read a lot of paranormal lately, although it's not really my "norm". Almost all are on the cozy side, not really BAD witches, etc. This one, however, is a radical change to what I've been reading. The Necromancer is, in a word, WICKED! He sets his sights on his perfect mate, and goes all out to get her.
This will keep you sitting on the edge of your seat in amazement, as he exhibits more & more satanic attributes.
This was an awesome read!!!! Very easy to read, a great story, pulling you in with the story. Fantastic and very well written. Would love to get ahold of the next one...Spooky, had me almost pulling my hair out and totally biting my nails. Michelle's character is extremely strong and easy to fall in love with. Very descriptive, scary, suspensive!!!!! Must read~~
I gave this book 3 stars for a couple reasons. The story itself was a great concept. The characters were quite good. Yet, at times the story seemed to drag out. I noticed quite a few editing errors. The author went into to much detail on some things. I do appreciate that Pamela M. Richter gave me a good story. Over all, I would recommend reading this book.
Good read, the beginning was a little tedious and, to be honest, I almost stopped reading. The completionist in me kept reading because I wanted to give this book a chance, and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised as it was overall a great story with an interesting twist. I especially enjoyed the background information on Witchcraft; that part was very well done.
Unfortunately there were several negatives on this book. The main thing is that I just didn't care for it. But it also has need of editing with some of the flaws being ones that really bugged me. And it has two errors: a character mix up and a more serious issue that a woman who can't take pills would never have a prescription for sleeping pills...
I didn't enjoy this book at all. There was a reason they offered it for free. Some people may enjoy it, but it's just not my thing! I wanted to stop reading several times, but I'm the type that always has to finish a book once I start. Oh well. Moving on!
