I fled Spirit Falls as soon as I was old enough, and the Darkwind council was happy to see me go. But it's been twenty years and they are short on hunters in their supernatural war. So when they offer my son a place in their ranks, I portal myself to the council chambers in anger.
As tempers flare, a bonding rune burns into my skin, and I find myself linked to a hunter I have never met. It's been over a thousand years since a spontaneous bond formed, but my connection to the breach map that warns the magical community of a demon incursion is far more concerning.
Do I accept my fate and my bonded hunter or allow the Darkwind council to risk my son's life?

I had never read these authors before, and I was excited to try this book especially since it is a women’s fiction. Shannon is an interesting character, and I wish we had gotten to know her son better. I loved the interaction between her and Daryn, and I loved their journey into falling in love. This is full of action, an intriguing universe, and a great romance. There are a couple of inconsistencies, and I can guess what’s going on, but this is still a good book. If you like paranormal romance with an “older” main character, try this. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
Know those books that have you caught in their spell from the first few pages and let you yell "What?! Nooo! " when you find out you've reached the last page and now you have to wait xxx months before the story continues with book 2?
Yeah... those are awesome. I just found one. This one. Midlife Demons and Demigods is a brand new series by author-duo Tia Didmon and Victoria Crawford. Simply put: Demigods refers to the Demon Hunters in the village of Spirit Falls. As descendants of the gods, Greek gods to be precise, they all have some - or more - magical powers to help them protect the world from evil: Demons and their King.
When we start the first book in the series, Destiny of Magic, our main character Shannon is literally ripped from her safe, mundane life to portal straight into the so-called Darkwind Council's chamber. There she's not only unwillingly soul-bonded to Head Hunter Daryn but finds out she has more powers than even she knew (and kept a secret), and she's prophesied to be their last hope in the war against the Demon King.
With Shannon having been treated terribly after her hunter parents died in a demon attack when she was only 10 and eventually worked out of the village branded a useless "weak witch", she obviously isn't jumping for joy been forced back into the fold. Especially because her quite immature 19yo son - eager to join the Hunters now that he knows Magic exists - is being used against her. What's more, it becomes obvious quite soon there's a traitor in the midst of the higher ups, having joined the Demon King's side, and Shannon's bad treatment seems to have been on purpose.
From the very first pages I was hooked. It's one of those stories that has no unnecessary filler, nor info dumps. It was simply fast paced from the start while remaining easy to read. Plus we know quite soon who most of the big players are, what kind of a world were in and what's at stake. While I'm rarely a fan of the love at first sight-trope, the chemistry between Daryn and Shannon is conveyed in a decent enough way, helped by their forced soul-bond (parafinai, really? A little too close to a certain very popular book & TV- series soul bond, imho).
Destiny of Magic falls into the "Midlife Magic" genre, meaning that the main character and, in this case also, her love interest have reached the "Midlife" stage. (And from what I could see almost all important characters are 40 and over). Other than a few mentions of their age & looks, previous marriages and the fact that Shannon's son Caleb is already a 19-yo, I don't really feel as if the authors will make a big deal out of their age. It's a fact, it might make their outlook on life different, but it won't affect a younger reader's ability to identify themselves with them and their emotions.
All the above is a sign of good authors and a possibly great series. That was also visible in the depiction of the characters we've got to know so far. Sure, it's a first book and everyone will be more fleshed out later on, but it was quite easy to get a good feel for each person. I already have a strong dislike for certain people, feel warmth towards others, and the camaraderie between the described Hunters - and friends - was obvious.
Going further that'll help forming a connection to the important characters and to get angry, sad, and happy with them. To lose yourself in another world and identify or somehow bond with the people in it, is why most people read a book - besides knowledge. Creating that possibility in a good way is what will make this series very popular. The first signs are absolutely there.
While the use of the Greek gods, the idea of paranormal Hunters or Demons trying to take over the world isn't new, perhaps not even in that combination, the Demons and Demigods' world still had a fresh ring to it. Except for the parabatai...eh parafinai bond, that is. I think if it had been named differently I wouldn't have constantly thought of that other well known Hunters' series. It's, at the moment, the one blemish on Destiny of Magic. Change it!
For me, Destiny of Magic - an aptly chosen title by the way - turned into one of those "I know it's in the middle of the night, but just one more page" kind of books. I finished it when the morning light flitted through my bedroom window curtains. Page Turner? Hell yes! The final chapter ends with quite the cliffhanger and I wasn't really ready to end the story just yet. I've never been a morning person to begin with, but now I'm extra cranky the book wasn't longer, ànd I'm forced to wait on the next installment.
Let book 2 be here very soon, please! I'll be eagerly waiting for it, that's for sure!
If you love a sense of intrigue, a suddenly very powerful female character who's anything but a pushover, a sexy protector, big battles against evil with scary prophecies and cryptic oracles to boot, all linked to ancient, arrogant organisations and big secrets... this is your kind of book.
This is book one of the Midlife Demons and Demigods series and the main character is Shannon Peterman, whose life after her parents died when she was ten was not a happy one, making her leave her hometown of Spirit Falls as soon as she was eighteen. She wanted nothing to do with what her parents did and didn’t stick around to be tested at age nineteen, already having been told she had little to no magic. Her parents had been Hunters and she was raised until they died, to become one as well. Her son Caleb is now nineteen and has been raised in the mundane world as Shannon married a human after leaving home, not that the marriage lasted. The Hunters have been losing numbers in a big way ever since her parent’s generation died off, and so people have been sent out to recruit empowered people. She is shocked to find out that the one person she dislikes the most from the Hunter world, has come and tried to recruit her son, basically telling him that Shannon is a witch and he likely has magic as well and offered him a place to become a Hunter. To him it sounds exciting and he wants into the lifestyle, and is so angry she hid it from him his whole life. Her anger soon sees a portal opening which takes her to the Darkwind Council room, with no idea how she got there.
She wants them to leave her son alone, but the members of the council are more concerned about her magic and how she hid it for so long. On top of that she can also connect to the board that warns them of demon incursions! As she argues with the warlock councillors, a burning sensation on her skin reveals a bonding rune tying her to an unknown Hunter. It turns out she has experienced a spontaneous parafinai bond, something not seen in centuries and a type of bond no longer allowed between Hunters in recent years. Daryn, a Hunter team leader and one of the most qualified Hunters in Spirit Falls, comes rushing into the council chambers, also with a bond burnt into his skin and wanting to know who did this to him! When he finds out Shannon is his bonded mate, he is not exactly happy and since no one admits to doing it, it can only be the gods that did this, no matter how little anyone believes in them anymore. Of more concern to the councillors is her connection to the breach map and the Book of Gods, which they want her to find. Apparently a prophecy links to her and her ability to find it and bring it to the council, if she wants her son to be safe! If the King of the Underworld gets his hands on it, he will be able to open all the gates to the Underworld and the human world will be destroyed. It would be the end of the world!
She thinks the council will stick to the agreement of her finding the book and allowing her son to stay in Cape Cod, but they rarely stick to their word and she will soon be embroiled in a whole world she had put behind her over twenty years ago, just as the people of Spirit Falls seemed to forget about her and her parents sacrifice all those years ago. There is no know way of breaking the bond between her and Daryn, but she hopes he will find one, as he doesn’t seem happy about the bond either. Shannon is stuck in Spirit Falls for now and suddenly has some powers she was totally unprepared for, powers the council want to know how she got! Everyone in her life from age ten until they forced her out of town, believed she was useless to the town and couldn’t follow her parent’s legacy as a Hunter, as she had no powers. For some reason she was never tested again before she left, so there are questions to be asked. She is given accommodation and is now part of a life she never saw herself in, with no real choice in the matter. She needs to get used to this new role she finds herself in and fast, as new powers pop up and she will have to get a handle on them! A fantastic start to the series and I ended up reading the first three and into the fourth in the same day, I just couldn’t put them down! I would recommend this to all who love a good paranormal romance with a fight to save the world on top. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Oh my goodness! This books was amazing. I love everything Tia Didmon writes and this book was no exception. And Victoria Crawford…I need more of her books in my life. These two together just blew me away!
It starts off with a bang and doesn’t stop. You have Shannon who left her home, Spirit Falls as soon as she was able due to everything that happened to her during her youth. She’s at home with her son and then BAM she’s back in Spirit Falls and the fun just starts from there and keeps going.
She’s a skeptical one and for good reason. She’s wanted to stay away from all thing magic but her past decided that wasn’t going to happen. So, she’s back where she doesn’t want to be with powers coming to her left and right. All she wants is to protect her son but things are not as they seems for poor Shannon.
We have the lovely Daryn that comes in at beginning and it was fireworks from the beginning. It may not have been happy fireworks but let me tell you they were there. He’s the leader of the Hunters and pretty much hot af and awesome.
These two end up being connected in a very unexpected way. Their chemistry is fantastic. They have to figure things out between them as well well as find the Book of the Gods to pretty much save humanity. To top it off Shannon has her son wanting to get involved in this world that she just doesn’t want for him due to how it hurt her.
I really like Shannon though, her character is awesome. She certainly has a back bone and isn’t afraid to speak her peace. She may not be a fighter or master at her magics but she’s not weak by any means.
I cannot wait to find out more about her story, her magic, her parents, Sprite Falls and her relationship with her son and Daryn. I’m telling you there is so much in the book you won’t want to put it down once you start.
I highly recommend checking it out!.

Shannon Talbot wants nothing to do with Spirit Falls and had left there 20 years ago. Unfortunately, however, Shannon's 19-year-old son Caleb learns she has lied to him about his heritage, the Council, the hunters, and the supernatural world. She had married a human, so no one should have tested her son for magic. The Council had contacted him without her permission and suggested they train him as a hunter if he had enough magic. Shannon is furious and heads for the Council Chambers, bypassing the Council’s wards and creating her own portal, much to everyone’s surprise. A gift like that was rare and the Council definitely wanted to make use of it. She should not have been able to get through the wards as she had. None of the other witches and warlocks were able to do that! Then a brand burned a rune into her skin – a spontaneous bond, the first to occur for 1,000 years! But who was she bonded to? Their souls would be bound for eternity.
Just then, Sarnar appeared and said the leader and best of the hunters, Daryn, had just been bonded and was furious and on his way to the chamber. If Shannon leaves Spirit Falls, the demons will go after her to get to Daryn since her death means her bonded one Daryn would also die. Magnus threw a shield around her, a bubble of power, to force her to remain – and her own power shattered the shield! When the breach board map acted crazy, she used her power to stabilize it and warned them of a demon incursion threatening. That should have been beyond her capabilities! Will Shannon fight for them with her newfound powers in the war that is coming? Or will the Darkwind Council put her son in danger if she refuses?
Destiny of Magic is the first book in the Midlife Demons and Demigods series. In this book we meet Shannon, a witch who ran from Spirit Falls and everything she knew, as soon as she could. She embraced the world of the mundanes, where she met her (now ex-) husband, had a child, and made a life for herself.
The day her 19-year old son walked into their home and berated her for having hidden her past and denying him his heritage, changed everything. Shannon's anger somehow opened a portal - something she had never done before - and she found herself standing in front of the Darkwind council. Confused and angry, she soon finds herself bound to Daryn, the leader of the hunters, and a high-stakes mission.
This book hooked me from the very beginning and held me through every page. I loved reading about Shannon and Spirit Falls. This paranormal romance was also filled with adventure and mystery along with some delicious spice! This book definitely gets two thumbs up from me.
It looks like the second book is coming in May. I'm not kidding when I tell you that I'm already counting down the days.

Shannon is a 40 year old witch that has been hiding her heritage since she was a teenager and fled her hometown of Spirit Falls. That is until her 19 year old son Caleb is approached and offered a chance at becoming a hunter. Filled with anger and concern for her child's safety, she finds herself Back in Spirit Falls and spontaneously bound to a hunter. As she navigates her newfound connection and emerging powers, she must decide whether to accept her fate or risk losing the person she cares about most.
A captivating and thrilling tale that will keep readers on the edge of their seat. Tia Didmon expertly weaves together magic, political intrigue, suspense and familial love. The world building felt natural and the story fast paced. The overall plot was compelling and the characters engaging with all their flaws and secrets. The bond between a witch and a hunter added complexity as they learned to trust one another and rely on each other with just the right amount of spice thrown in.
This book does leave off on a major cliffhanger with so many things left unanswered. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment reading this novel and cannot wait to read the next book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
What an exciting beginning to what I know will be an excellent series. Action from the first page. I loved how the story started. Got to love nineteen year olds. Shannon is the main h. She has denied what/who she is for a very long time. Circumstances beyond her control she is dragged into situations she would rather not have to deal with. Her past is catching up fast. She learns more about her gifts, some she did not know she possessed . I love her determination to keep her son out of the mess of her life. She is unique. Smart and driven. I really like her spunk. Someone really goofed on her exit from her home town. Daryn is the leader of the hunters. He of course is strong. I loved how he and Shannon first met. EEK, to say sparks flow is an understatement. Both Daryn and Shannon were not happy campers. I loved the journey to the discoveries, for both of them. Steam with the eventual romance, intrigue and mystery make this a must read. And yes, there is a cliffhanger. I can't wait for the next book.

First, this is a partial story (which is usually a serious no go for me) but a very intriguing plot and drew me right in. Shannon is the daughter of two powerful hunters and her mother was a powerful witch. After her parents died when Shannon was 10, she was warded to her mother’s best friend, Kliona. Kliona was mourning the loss of her son and didn’t support or train Shannon who left as soon as she could to live a non-magical life.
She is divorced and raising her 19 year old son, Caleb when Kliona shows up and pulls Shannon and her son back into the magical world by telling Caleb about Shannon’s magical abilities. When Shannon returns to her hometown to block Caleb’s desire to become a hunter like her parents, a parafinai (fated mate) bond forms between her and the leader of the hunters, Daryn. Throw in murder, mayhem, and treachery and you have one delicious and very entertaining read. I am eagerly awaiting the next installment. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
WARNING! Cliffhanger! This is book one in the series, and it ends on a pretty big cliffhanger, with a whole lot of unfinished business to boot. I rate it about a 4/5 on the trauma scale- there aren’t lives hanging while you wait, but there is a lot of loose plot lines waiting. Consider yourself warned.
On learning that her son wants to work for the magical hunters, Shannon finds herself back in the town she thought she had left behind for good, decades ago. Suddenly she’s filled with power, and facing a prophesied apocalypse- while being partnered with a man she has never met before…
This is a fast paced, action filled tale, in which our heroine discovers her powers only now she has entered mid-life! You can expect a little romance, some sexy times, and plenty of action, all playing out with a mystery to boot. I have my own suspicions on who the culprit might be, but this book ends before the revelation, but it’s still an enjoyable and very quick read for the paranormal women’s fiction lovers out there.
I couldn't put this book down once I started it! Shannon is mad when her son tells her that he has been approached by someone telling him about the magical world she fled years ago and how he might have powers that would allow him to be trained as a hunter. She is surprised when a portal opens in her kitchen and dumps her into council headquarters and none of the members can figure out how she got there. She is shocked when a parafinai bond rune is spontaneously seared into her hand. She is speechless when the leader of the hunters burst into the room demanding to know why he now has a parafinai rune on his hand. That is just the beginning of her really bad day.
Not going to tell you more. I am already in love with Daryn and Shannon is going to be a bada**. Can't wait to read more. My only complaint? The book was too short! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Our heroine is not exactly on good terms with the council, so she is rather angry when they try to recruit her son. Turns out she might have to take his place in order to save him. And herself.
This is book one of the series, so a fine place to start.
This is a paranormal romance story with witches, demons and that ilk. The story is well written and easy to read with a plot that nonetheless has a lot going on. The setting is well developed and quite intriguing, so I am definitely looking forward to exploring it in future books. The characters are equally well done. I definitely like our heroine and look forward to getting to know her better. The plot has a nice bit of mystery to it and, of course, plenty of magic. Overall, this was a fun start to a series and I look forward to seeing what comes next.
Highly recommended.

My goodness that was a story!! Shannon is a witch living amongst the mundane in secret. Until her son finds out about his heritage. In a fit a rage her power surges and a portal is formed and takes her to the last place she wants to be. She finds herself in Spirit Falls. It seems that fate brought her home to save the very people who abandoned her when she needed them the most. This story was absolutely amazing. Or the most part I'm not much of a fan of the witch part of the supernatural genre. But I think Tia Didmon and Victoria Crawford sure opened up my eyes to an opportunity to branch out with this series. I am so excited to continue this story to see where this story leads me!! A must read if you love magic and sexy hot hunters.

Shannon left her hometown when she was 18. Then when her son is approached about becoming a Hunter she gets so furious she portals herself to the council chambers. While there a parafinai bond symbol appears on her wrist. She is totally furious. She doesn't want to be there and doesn't want her son there also. Into this arrives Daryn, the Hunter leader and he has the same symbol on his wrist. Now she has two factions to focus her ire on but then her attention is caught by the portal board. Then the goddess Hecate appears and totally throws off any preconceptions and petty squabbles. Now Shannon needs to figure out how to keep her son safe and outwit the bond and the council. A fascinating and fast paced story that will enthrall the reader!!.

Shannon had fled Spirit Falls when she was a teen and it has been twenty years. Now that her son, Caleb has found out about Spirit Falls and that she was a witch and that he may have powers as well because a representative of the Council had gotten in touch with her son, things were out in the open between them. He is angry that he is just finding out about it all and not from his own mother, at 19, from Kliona. The Darkwind Council needs all the help they can get because demons are coming through portals long thought closed. A portal takes her to the Council and she throws a fit at them. Mischief, mayhem and misunderstandings abound. It was very interesting new beginning to a new series by a fave author of mine. I truly enjoyed reading it. SOOO much goes on in this book and Caleb learns that he needs to respect his mom. Things are not what they seem.
I really like that the witches and such in this series are descended from the gods and goddesses of Greek lore/ mythology. You’ve got the Council and politics, and then you have the hunters or the fighters who hunt down the demon incursions. You find out why Shannon fled Spirit Falls and some of the foreshadowing is just plain awesome. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Starting out, I did not like the way this story unfolded, but as the pages progressed, the interest increased and the story claimed me. I will never like the tool writers use to "encourage" their readers to buy more of their books, beyond writing an excellent story. The "cliffhanger" is the most despised tool they use, in my honest opinion, but quite effective, if the story is good enough. This story surpasses that mark. The characters have "lives" that are quite interesting and if written well, as these have been, endearing as the time with them unfolds. The plot is straight forward, and the premise is stopping the demons from taking over and destroying the mundane and gifted world. I most certainly recommend this book.
Shannon left Spirt Falls as soon as she was able there was nothing there for her any more now that her parents had gone. She was going to live a human life and be free. Things were moving along okay till Kilona visited her son and spilled the beans on her past. Now he wants to be a hunter, not if she could put a stop to it. When she left Spirit Falls she was considered so weak she was human, on her return wow she's the strongest witch in town much to her anger. All she has to do to return to her pervious life is stop the demons that are flooding into the town and find the Book of the Gods. Simple.
Shannon the heroine or Demi goddess in this case is living a quiet life with literally little to no magic use, then one day gets blindsided by her teenage son about “ the real world” and “how could she lie to him all of his life “? Next thing she knows she’s standing in front of the Magic Council and a Rune has burned onto her hand !! From there on her and Daryn go on a very wild and turbulent ride trying to save the world from demons, while falling in love with each other. All I can say is 5✨’s for characters, world building and where’s book 2 ??.

One moment she is living her magic-free life and raising her son, and the next, Shannon finds herself with a nearly unheard of spontaneous bond forming between her and Daryn. They fight to save the world, and wow what a bumpy ride it is!
I'm so glad I was introduced to Tia Didmon. This is one of her well-woven tapestries, rich in details and layers, written about middle-aged female main characters. This first in the series is not a stand alone, but will lure you into the series. I cannot wait for the second book. This story isn't going to let me go!.

Shannon left her complicated life in spirit falls closing off that chapter in her life. There is a large number of demons and not enough hunters so the dark winds council recruits her son letting him know everything he knows about himself is a lie. Her life is about to become very complicated when she confronts the council in anger and a bond rune burns into her skin linking her to a hunter she doesn't know. This book was awesome. It's filled with suspense and excitement. The characters are relatable and likeable. I think this might be my new favorite series.

This is the first book in the Midlife Demons and Demigods series, and it's got off to a good start. Shannon's a witch who ran from Spirit Falls, her magic heritage and everything she knew to go and live in the world of the mundane. Things went well at first, she married and started a family but now she's divorced and her son is demanding to know why she has lied to him his whole life.
As if that isn't bad enough she soon finds herself at the mercy of the Magic Council with a Rune that has burned into her hand. Then she meets Daryn and together they are tasked with trying to save the world from some demons. On the bright side, she and Daryn seem to be falling in love with each other.
I hate to give two stars to a book but there are just too many inconsistencies in the storyline, the biggest being that the MC begs the mmc not to tell anyone about her Necro powers, he promises not to, then when he tells his team in front of her she has no reaction then later he tells her that the Council is aware of her powers so therefore wouldn’t knowingly put her in a haunted house but when they’re in a Council meeting she, in a fit of temper, reveals her power, and the Council members are shocked.
Multiple incorrect word usages such as subconscious instead of self conscious.
Not to mention the unforgivable misspelling of Jason Momoa’s name which by itself should lose you a star!
A fiercely protective mother is forced to return to a life she thought she had left behind in this captivating story. Didmon and Crawford create a tale that delves into the intricacies of family, destiny, and personal growth, incorporating a charming slow-burning romance, a well-detailed magical system, and a touch of comedy. A compelling read is produced by the protagonist's realistic difficulties, the high-stakes supernatural fight, and the fascinating bonding rune. Readers who enjoy the wonderful midlife adventure books by Shannon Mayer, K.F. Breene, and Victoria Danann will beg for more.

Shannon lost her parents at age 10 and she wanted nothing to do with her heritage of being a hunter so the day she turns 18 she leaves her hometown and prefers to never return home but she finds out that the council has tested her son but his father was a human so they shouldn't have but they did so she is pissed and she goes to the council walking right through wards like they were nothing. This book is getting good and I can't wait to read more.

Wow this is written extremely well! The plot starts right at the beginning and the story is told with perfect detail and pace. Such a breath of fresh story telling! Magic, demons, action...all told in perfect harmony. Would be about perfect if the sex scenes were minimal. Just takes away from the purpose of the story. I don't mind some idea of what's happening but pages upon pages isn't necessary to get the point across. Regardless, well written, great story, good character development and perfect pace.
You want action, romance, some sexy scenes, a dark mystery and a midlife heroine and fiercely protective mom with a strong will combined with a world in wich common life and fantasy clash and collide? Then this book is made for you. I myself laughed, chuckled and dreamed reading it - and the only thing that left me desperate was, that it’s not only part of a series but ended with a cliffhanger. So beware ;-).

Shannon left the magical community behind after her parents’ death. Now she is being dragged back and has found out that she has powerful magical abilities that are just coming into play. Luckily the God she is descended from provided her a soul bond to the head of the hunter’s guild. Daryn wasn’t any happier than Shannon to be forced into a bond, but he will now protect her no matter what. Now they just have to stop the demons from destroying the world.
