These stories were all so strangely bland. If this book was my introduction to these authors, I'd likely never bother to look further into their work.

There are excellent writers in here, but it felt like most of these would be compulsory reading for a college assignment then discarded from memory forever.

A delightful humorous novel that portrays Queen Elizabeth II as one who becomes, late in her life, a voracious reader. She spots a mobile library (bookmobile) in the palace's kitchen yard. Curious, she visits it, borrows a book, then anoth, and another. If you like Mrs Queen Takes the Train you will enjoy The Uncommon Reader. (Personally, I prefer Mrs Queen).
