I really miss these beautiful coffee table books. There is a little information, but STUNNINGLY beautiful pictures. This kind of book is the reason I want to see the world. The pictures are so very, very evocative of the place and creature that I want more than anything to be able to tell you how it smells, how it sounds, what the air feels like in that place. Is it warm or chill where the mountain gorillas live? Are the macaques ominous feeling or just cute?

A stunning collection of imagery show-casing our closest relatives, the great apes, as well as the beautiful "snow monkeys" of Japan, and a small smorgasbord of other primates--including lemurs--toward the end. My personal favourite section was definitely the one on the snow monkeys (otherwise known as the Japanese macaques.)
