About the author

Edginton sees part of the key to his success coming from good relationships with artists, especially D'Israeli and Steve Yeowell as well as Steve Pugh and Mike Collins. He is best known for his steampunk/alternative history work (often with the artist D'Israeli) and is the co-creator of Scarlet Traces, a sequel to their adaptation of H.G. Wells' The War of the Worlds. With 2000 AD we has written Leviathan, Stickleback and, with art by Steve Yeowell, The Red Seas as well as one-off serials such as American Gothic (2005).

His stories often have a torturous gestation. Scarlet Traces was an idea he had when first reading The War of the Worlds, its first few instalments appeared on Cool Beans website, before being serialised in the Judge Dredd Megazine. Also The Red Seas was initially going to be drawn by Phil Winslade and be the final release by Epic but Winslade was still tied up with Goddess and when ideas for replacement artists were rejected Epic was finally wound up - the series only re-emerging when Edginton was pitching ideas to Matt Smith at the start of his 2000 AD career.

With D'Israeli he has created a number of new series including Stickleback, a tale of a strange villain in an alternative Victorian London, and Gothic, which he describes as "Mary Shelley's Doc Savage". With Simon Davis he recently worked on a survival horror series, Stone Island, and he has also produced a comic version of the computer game Hellgate: London with Steve Pugh.

He is currently working on a dinosaurs and cowboys story called Sixgun Logic. Also as part of Top Cow's Pilot Season he has written an Angelus one-shot.

W końcu #dumaiuprzedzenie za mną! A raczej graficzna adaptacja, czy po prostu powieść graficzna powieści Jane Austen, po którą chciałam sięgnąć od tak dawna i zupełnie nie mogłam się zebrać, a dzięki @wydawnictwo_wab miałam taką przyjemność 🩵

Nie mogę zacząć tej recenzji inaczej, jak od połączenie charakterów dwójki bohaterów, które było totalnie wyczuwalne na stronach komiksu (który jednak jeśli chodzi o treść, jest trochę bardziej ograniczony niż normalna książka) i to mnie bardzo urzekło! Bo myślę, że nie lada wyzwaniem jest przekazać poprzez obrazki i dialogi to wszystko, a tu zdecydowanie się to udało!

Po jednej stronie stoi błyskotliwa, nieustępliwa i niezależna Elizabeth Bennet, by po drugiej mógł stanąć pan Darcy - surowy, na początku dający poczucie nieczułego i wręcz bez serca człowieka, a jednak później tak subtelnie uroczy!

Trochę dziwnie się czuję opisując go w ten sposób, bo na pierwszych stronach był skałą jeśli chodzi o jakiekolwiek uczucia hahaha (wyobraźcie sobie stojący głaz, któremu dorysowujecie różową farbką rumieńce, to on to coś w ten deseń 😂), ale gdy ten kamień później pęka od nadmiaru uczuć, które się w nim gotują… w środku okazuje się być bijącym, romantycznym serduchem.

Czy to powieść dla kogoś, kto nie zna tej historii? Tak.
Czy to również powieść dla kogoś, kto ją zna? Drugi raz tak.

Teraz mam jeszcze więcej motywacji, by sięgnąć po klasyk w papierze i sobie porównać go do tego, co dostałam tu, ale powiem Wam, że za takimi „interpretacjami” książek jestem jak najbardziej za! Są cudowne i czuję się oczarowana historią i jeszcze mocniej zachęcona.

I chwilą o samej oprawie graficznej - piękne detale, kreska, kolory, postacie i ich mimika I love it! I tła, na których dzieje się akcja tak dopracowane!

Bardzo się cieszę, że zdecydowałam się po to sięgnąć, zachęcam Was do sięgnięcia i po to wydanie 🩵

This cartoon is an excellent option for those who want a good adaptation of the classic by Jane Austen.

The text has been reduced but the essentials are there.

As for art, I loved the landscape portraits, but not so much the characters' faces.

But that's my personal taste.

El clásico de Jane Austen ahora se presenta en formato de novela gráfica, una obra que recoge los momentos más esenciales de la historia y les da color a sus entrañables personajes.

Cuando vi que se iba a publicar esta novela gráfica me emocioné un montón, es decir, como super fan de Jane Austen y sus obras, es genial saber que su encanto sigue tan vivo que continúan publicándose sus libros, se hacen versiones fílmicas de ellos o incluso se publican mangas o novelas como esta. Creo que cualquier fan querría tenerla, y esta afirmación es importante, porque es la que mejor puede resumir mi reseña.

Orgullo y prejuicio es la novela más conocida de la autora y era de suponer que si iban a adaptar uno de sus libros este sería el elegido. Para crear la novela gráfica hay que resumir mucho la historia porque la mayoría se nos cuenta a través de los diálogos de los personajes, muchos de ellos sacados directamente del texto original. En ese aspecto son fieles.

Aunque se suprimen cosas y otras se reconfiguran un poco, son cambios leves y las escenas más conocidas de la historia de Elizabeth y Darcy se mantienen. También aparecen todos los personajes principales y me ha encantado que se presenten al comienzo en imágenes en camafeos. Creo que los dibujos están muy bien, han conseguido trasladar los rasgos esenciales de los personajes porque todos son perfectamente reconocibles, desde la candidez de Jane hasta la cara arrogante de Caroline Bingley.

El diseño del libro en sí me ha gustado, está cuidado y es un formato grande con tapa blanda y solapas (solapas decoradas) y está lleno de color. Hay páginas preciosas en las que se muestra la conversación entre los personajes y como están en la misma habitación tienen el mismo fondo, fondos preciosos que completan la página y se consigue un efecto increíble.

También quisiera destacar esa escena que si habéis leído conoceréis de sobra en la que Darcy y Elizabeth mantiene una conversación muy impactante, el ilustrador ha tenido una buena idea y es que nos ponen a los personajes en grande, uno en cada lado de una página, como si estuvieran confrontados y queda genial, se refleja muy bien ese momento.

El estilo de los dibujos no es mi favorito pero tampoco me desagrada y las recreaciones de los paisajes son preciosas, también lo concerniente a los decorados y los edificios, creo que Pemberly es igual al de la serie de la BBC de la que soy fan acérrima.

Con todo, al terminar la novela llegué a la conclusión de que este formato no favorece del todo a la historia porque aunque lo que sucede es muy interesante gana mucho por como la autora lo narra y nos lo vende. Al ser casi todo diálogos no podemos llegar a conocer a los personajes tanto como en la novela original, ni a conocer sus reacciones ante determinados hechos. Yo no he leído muchas novelas de este estilo así que no lo puedo asegurar, pero creo que es algo más o menos normal, porque el formato tiene sus ventajas y desventajas. Supongo que si creas una historia pensada para él se le puede sacar mucho más partido que si tratas de amoldar una novela tradicional.

Mi conclusión es que es, por encima de todo, un objeto de coleccionista que cualquier fan de Jane Austen querría tener. Es un placer ojearlo, ver las ilustraciones, comprobar como lo han adaptado… Y si sois como yo y os gusta coleccionar ediciones de Orgullo y prejuicio, querréis tenerlo.

Evidentemente es una edición que se lee de una sentada. Me encantan sus ilustraciones y lo cuidada que es al detalle está preciosa edición. Además es muy fiel al clásico de la gran Jane Austen.

A very VERY enjoyable adaptation. Mr. Darcy was dreamy as a cartoon!! Well, he is just dreamy in general! I am a die hard Darcy lover, always have been always will be! He was my first literary love. I will always have a special place in my heart for Jane Austen and Mr. Darcy. Back in the day when I was still mowing through Babysitter’s club and Sweet Valley High books by the dozen, a (very!) good friend who shared my love of reading asked me if I’d ever read Pride and Prejudice. I was only 13 years old and had in fact, not had the pleasure! So I borrowed her copy, took it on a trip to Kauai, & by the time I got home from my trip I’d insisted on driving to the other side of the island to purchase every Austen novel and I’d devoured them all. It was basically my introduction to real literature, stuff that wasn’t your average trash teeny writer, literature that was actually good! I fell in love with Mr. Darcy, and I fell HARD. It was partially due to the fact that Mr. Darcy was dreamy and amazing, but also partially due to the fact that I’d fallen in love with classics and literature all over again. I always loved to read, I used to get in trouble in school because I’d stuff one of my personal novels inside of my school text book and read in class, my parents had to instill a no reading at the dinner table rule to get me to interact with them! But Pride and Prejudice was the first book I read that was just stunningly good. It took things to a new level I had not gone before.

Well, that’s not entirely true. There were some gems in the children’s book world. Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech. Bridge to Terabithia and Jacob Have I Loved by Katherine Paterson. But Pride and Prejudiced open my eyes to a world that I’d only begun to understand, showed me that great literature is more than just a good story but is also about truly exceptional writing. After devouring every Jane Austen book in less than two weeks I moved on to Charlotte Bronte, Emily Bronte, George Eliot, William Thackeray, Thomas Hardy, & Charles Dickens...& on and on. And so began my love affair with British literature, and also classics as a whole. Before Goodreads and the internet and social media I wasn’t sure how to pick books so I raided the classics section every B&N trip, & they never disappointed. (They’re classics for a reason right?)

But my point is simply that Pride and Prejudice was the book that started it all, the eye opener, my first case of true book love! And for that, I will always always adore all things Pride and Prejudice. I’ll watch every adaptation, listen to every podcast discussing it, buy every Pride and Prejudice tote bag from B&N, and so of course I just had to have the graphic novel adaptation when I saw it. A must have! Not sure what I expected, it certainly wasn’t much being that I didn’t particularly think Austen’s work was the most suited for comic adaptation, but I actually wasn’t disappointed!

Whoever did this adaptation (Ian Edgington) did an excellent job! For only 134 pages of text that was limited to a few small bubbles per page, he managed to find and choose the most important, relevant, well known texts. And for only having so much space with which to fill with text, he somehow managed to perfectly capture the book’s essence. It was absolutely DELIGHTFUL! I absolutely positively loved it. Darcy was smoking hot as a cartoon and Elizabeth was absolute perfection! I really loved it, much to my surprise! Edgington managed to choose every famed and celebrated text and fit it in there perfectly. After reading only a few pages it was all coming back to me even tho it’s been a decade since the last time I’ve read it, I recognized practically every line and thought that it was a perfect graphic adaptation. After only a few pages I started to feel nostalgic and considered quitting and putting it down so I could pick up the actual book and reread it, but I very quickly noticed that it was surprisingly very much in line with the actual novel. After now having finished it I really think that it feels like I read the novel. Edgington did an all together amazing job.

Antes de nada, decir que no he leído el original de Jane Austen, y no creo que lo haga. La trama nunca me ha atraído, además, normalmente se me hacen largas las novelas escritas en esa época, debido a su prosa recargada.
Quizás por esto, al ver el formato de novela gráfica, pensé que era una forma de conocer algo de esta novela clásica.
Ha sido lo esperado, con una trama en la que todo gira alrededor de que el único fin de la educación de las mujeres es lograr que tengan un buen matrimonio, prescindiendo de sus inquietudes y deseos; aunque se haya intentado camuflar con una cierta independencia de estas a la hora de escoger a sus parejas.
Supongo que la obra original es lo mismo. Con esto no quiero en absoluto menospreciar a la autora ni a la novela, ya que me pasa lo mismo con la mayoría de las pocas novelas románticas actuales que he leído.

Nie ukrywam - mam słabość do twórczości Jane Austen. Lubię czytelniczą podróż do świata, w którym uroda dziewcząt jest równie ważna co majątek mężczyzn, gdzie aranżowanie małżeństw to zajęcie wyczerpujące i na cały etat, a posiadanie samych córek to ogromne wyzwanie dla kiesy i nerwów rodziców...
Gdy zobaczyłam, że moja ulubiona książka Austen ukazała się w wersji graficznej, miałam pewne wątpliwości. Nie jestem fanką takiej formy sztuki, boję się, że wartość literackiego oryginału zostanie spłycona. Na szczęście ta wersja jest wydana pięknie, kreska zachwyca, a co najważniejsze - zdecydowanie odczuwa się ducha oryginału. Twórcy zadbali o wierność treści, klimatu i przesłania. W dodatku uwypuklili to, jak sarkastyczny humor przenika strony tego dzieła. Z dużą przyjemnością wróciłam do historii Elizabeth Bennet i pana Darcy'ego, gromady sióstr, adoratorów, sprzymierzeńców i tych wręcz przeciwnie.
Polecam tę wersję bardzo i chociaż bez znajomości oryginału można zapewne czerpać z niej przyjemność, sugerowałabym najpierw przeczytanie powieści. Jane Austen na to zasługuje zdecydowanie.

„Duma i uprzedzenie” to klasyk. Odnoszę wrażenie, że jest to jedna z najbardziej rozpoznawalnych książek, która bardzo często powraca na bookmediach. Sama nie czytałam wersji zwykłej, poza ilustrowaną, a stało się tak dzięki jednej z moich ulubionych osób tutaj (@petitohermanito), która dodała relację o tym wydaniu i dlatego postanowiłam zgłosić się o egzemplarz.

Nie mam zatem żadnego porównania do zwykłej wersji, ale mogę śmiało powiedzieć, że wersja ilustrowana została wydana w przepiękny sposób. Nie miałam problemu z odczytaniem tekstu i z brakiem skupienia się, tekst został bardzo dobrze rozmieszczony.

W dość szybkim tempie udało mi się przeczytać tę książkę i mogłam dzięki temu zrozumieć (na tyle, ile jest to możliwe w tym przypadku), dlaczego o tej książce jest tak głośno. „Duma i uprzedzenie” zasługuje na rozgłos, zdecydowanie. W trakcie czytania nie mogłam powiedzieć, że się nudziłam, wręcz przeciwnie; niektóre sceny wywołały u mnie falę śmiechu, ale i radości.

Z perspektywy osoby, która nigdy wcześniej nie miała styczności z „Dumą i uprzedzeniem”, śmiało mogę stwierdzić, że warto sięgnąć po wydanie ilustrowane, szczególnie dla kolekcjonerów owych wydań. Ten tytuł zdecydowanie zasługuje na większe grono odbiorców, a ta wersja może mieć na to znaczący wpływ.

Polecam zapoznać się z losami panny Elizabeth, na której drodze znalazł się pan Darcy.

While I appreciate the enormity of undertaking turning Pride and Prejudice into a graphic novel, there were a few things that could have made it a much better rendition.
Firstly, Mary was nearly absent in the entirety of the story. I understand she's not the MC, but her character does add humor and insight into the whole relationship and interaction of the Bennet family.
Second, all of the men bear a striking resemblance to Charlton Heston. Tall, broad shouldered, brooding, with angular faces and a thickness that would only normally appear on a body builder. I highly doubt men of that time looked like that. I think they could have been a little more accurate in the visual depictions of the characters.
Third, there are far too many large gaps where important plot points occur and which are completely missing from the book. They must assume that everyone who is reading this has read the actual novel, otherwise it would not be as good of a story.
There are other concerns, as well, but those are most pertinent.

That being said, I still enjoyed it. The art is nicely done, the depiction of Mrs. Bennet's liveliness is hilarious, and the story is told.

Me duele en el alma muchísimo no darle el 5 como se lo he dado mil veces a la novela pero es que hxjwkfkwe va muy deprisa todo y se pierden muchas cosas! Además que algunas de las acciones de los personajes no se entienden si minimo no has visto la película. Aún así amo Orgullo y prejuicio y me ha gustado un montón verlo en este formato! Aunque diría que el manga de Norma adapta mejor la historia.

if you don't know whether this classic is for you, this abridged version is perfect to get into the story. the images are beautiful and the story itself reduced to the most vital conversations and scenes from the book. although Mary is very absent from the graphic novel.. maybe a bit much.

This is a good intro to P&P for I'd say a teen who is going to have to read it for school. It's very easy to read, and the pictures don't heavily favour either major on-screen retelling (1995 BBC or 2005 feature film). Besides my issue with the mislabelling of Mary as the 4th sister, there was also an error in the drawings when Elizabeth visits Pemberley. When she sees the portrait of Mr. Darcy in the pictures, it's drawn as if it's an actual photograph in a standing frame on a table. I found that jarring.

All in all, it's not a bad retelling for a graphic novel!

Spotkałam się ze stwierdzeniem, że czytelnicy niechętnie sięgają po literaturę klasyczną, więc myślę, że przedstawienie tej historii za pomocą powieści graficznej, to świetna opcja, która może zachęcić wiele osób do zapoznania się z tą historią.
Forma jest przystępna i ładnie oprawiona, więc nie pozostaje nic innego jak tylko czytać i zachwycać się tą miłosną historią! ❤️

Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice is one of my favorite books of all time. I was interested instantly when I found this comic from local library.

I actually took my time reading this, marveling the drawings and just consuming this iconic story once again. In my mind Mr. Darcy was quite as I pictured him in the first place same as Jane Bennet. Lizzy didn't quite fit to my expectation but I could read this comic trough with ease.

I might have to read the original again soon.

Lo he disfrutado mucho, me ha encantado recordar el libro que es uno de los mejores que he leído. Cada vez que repaso algo de lo que ha creado esta autora se reafirma y se intensifica la admiración que siento por ella.

En cuanto a adaptación, es muy buena; me parece mejor que la película del 2005 incluso. Capta bien la esencia pero los dibujos no me han fascinado. Por eso mis cuatro estrellas.

Staram się nie być uprzedzona do powieści graficznych i z ciekawości sięgnęłam po komiksową wersję „Dumy i uprzedzenia”. Dość dobrze znam oryginał, więc nie przeszkadzało mi skrócenie i uproszczenie historii. Jeżeli chodzi o rysunki, to nie do końca jestem nimi zachwycona – szczególnie ta mocna, męska linia żuchwy Elizabeth cały czas rzucała mi się w oczy (zboczenie zawodowe :)). Oczywiście taka okrojona wersja nie oddaje w pełni ducha dzieła Jane Austen, więc nie polecam zamiast oryginału, ale jako ciekawostka uzupełniająca – dlaczego nie?

Fue muy entretenido leer la novela grafica, orgullo y prejuicio es uno de mis libros favoritos, me gusto mucho la combinación que tuvo del libro y de la pelicula, le dio un nuevo aire a la historia, aun que el texto es resumido tiene lo principal y las importante del libro, al final igual dan bastante contexto para un mejor entendimiento de la historia.

niestety na tych 130 stronach nie znalazłam większości moich ulubionych scen, zostawiono tylko te, które miały większy wpływ na fabułę. żałuję, że nie zdecydowano się na dłuższą wersję, bo z wielką chęcią, bym przeczytała pogłębioną wersję. mimo to nie uważam ani trochę, by czas spędzony na czytaniu tego komiksu był zmarnowany🫶🏻 była to dla mnie opcja szybkiego powrotu do świata lizzy i to moje oczekiwanie zostało zaspokojone. do tego muszę dodać, że bardzo cieszę się, że nie zniszczono tej historii „spłaszczając ją” do obrazków z dymkami. bałam się, że będę miała wrażenie jakby, czytała książkę dla dzieci, ale jezyk ani fabuła dalej trzymaja poziom
