-Nowhere on the book's page does it say that this is an introduction or an excerpt. This book is roughly 15 pages. This doesn't even constitute a novella, in my opinion. It's more like one conversation. It felt like one chapter of a potentially good book, or one laugh track filled scene from an episode of Sex and the City.
-Because it's so short, it was really vague. There was next to no detail, forced dialogue, and no character development. I didn't care what Izzy and her friends did.
-There's nothing dirty in it. There's a few crass jokes and a short scene at the beginning, but it was far from erotic.
+I do give props to the author for using anatomically correct words in the aforementioned scene. A lot of authors use euphemisms that just make the bad writing even worse.
If this were a teaser or an excerpt, then I would like to read this. But unfortunately it's the start of a series, and so I must treat it as though it was written as a stand alone novella, since there is nothing to indicate that it is otherwise.
Skip it. That's my opinion. If you want a really fast read, then maybe you'll like this. But I can't really recommend it more specifically than that.
Thank you to Susan Frances' blog for my digital copy, and this review can also be found on my blog, Bitches n Prose.
Katie, BookingIt--"Although single, Izzy is definitely sexually charged. Unfortunately, past experiences cloud her judgment and willingness to jump into her relationships even though she appears to appreciate herself... I think many readers will be able to relate to Izzy and her reticence to begin a new relationship with an odd man, especially with a few bad men in the past. This free short story sets up a new, exciting series that hints at sexual exploration. Also, I found myself routing for Izzy, hoping she will find love as well as huge dose of confidence with her future endeavors. Definitely pick up this free story for a quick introduction into Izzy’s world and what sexual goodness she has coming her way in the near future!" BookingIt Grade: A
Four friends meet for coffee and Amy regales them with the tale of her night with a co-worker. Jessica tells her his zodiac sign and treats them to her theory that you can tell a man’s zodiac sign by his bedroom behavior in Tammy Valentine’s FOREPLAY, book 1 of her ZODIAC CLUB series. They scoff but Izzy is intrigued. Meeting again Izzy wants to learn more. This leads to Izzy becoming involved in an experiment to test Jessica’s theory.
These are some interesting ladies. None are shy except for Izzy. Eventually they get her to agree to be part of the experiment but she does set the ground rules. This sets this series up very nicely. We readers know what the experiment is and what rules have been agreed upon. We do not have to learn as we go but there may be some of that.
I am intrigued by the experiment—telling a man’s zodiac sign by his bedroom behavior. Izzy seems the shyest of them but I think she is a late bloomer. She will discover things about herself that she did not know or had never thought she would do. This includes agreeing to the experiment.
I am hooked by the set-up in FOREPLAY. I want to know what happens to Izzy. I might decide I want to trade places with her.
Foreplay – The Zodiac Book 1 by Tammy Valentine * I received a copy of this book from Breathless Press in exchange for an honest review*
Foreplay starts our journey through the Zodiac with Izzy and her friends. When Izzy left to meet her friends for coffee, she never imagined that her love life would change because of it.
During lunch the girls were sharing stories about their men and Jessica starts predicting the guys zodiac signs. She is convinced that she can tell you what their sign is just by their sexual performance. Izzy is skeptical but continues to drink in every word she says.
They share a few stories and Jessica keeps guesses the correct sign for the guy. The girls convince Izzy that her love life needs an overhaul and she should be the guinea pig for the experiment.
They agree that Izzy will go through a dating agency and she will date a guy from each of the twelve zodiacs and they will compare notes and see if Jessica is right. The other two girls will make sure everything stays fair.
I loved this short story and wanted to see where this bet was going to take us so I bought the next story Aries Unleashed. I give Foreplay 4 Flaming Hearts.
Izzy Morgan and her friends discover that their friend Jessica has an unique talent. Whie discussing their sexual adventures, Jessica identifies men's star signs according to their sexual performance. That's when they come up with a challenge to prove how far Jessica's talent goes. Izzy is supposed to to have sex with every star sign, and report her adventures to Jess. What will happen to Izzy next? Foreplay is an introduction of what's coming next for Izzy. Although the plot is very weak for a thirteen short story series and the characters are pretty flat, you can't help being curious about what's going to happen next. We wanna know how Izzy will deal with it since she's not the most adventurous person in the group? How her dates will go? The next book is called Aries Unleashed, so I believe the author will follow the zodiac order in the books of this series. The Zodiac Club sounds like a fun idea for the character, but will it be enjoyable for the reader? We can't tell much from this first book, as it would count as a first chapter or a prelogue to the story itself.
This is a short story that will start off what I think will be a great series. I found that this was a great teaser for the books that follow. It seemed that the title was very apropos. The best way to read the series would be to follow the series for the whole year.
Tammy has written a unique concept of a way to find your sexual partner. We have four friends that get together over coffee and Izzy Morgan is listening to her friend Jessica reveal that she has an interesting way of identifying men. Each subsequent story is short enough that if you only have a limited amount of time, you should be able to get it read in just a couple of hours. In the meantime, make sure to start the adventure with this great first book. If you want to know how to follow this series, without checking the zodiac, stop over to Tammy's website. http://www.tammyvalentine.com/the-ful...
Izzy as at a girls get together when one of her friends is telling about her latest conquest. Jennifer tells his Zodiac sign after hearing the story. Intrigued by the notion you can tell a lover by his Zodiac Izzy calls another meeting and has the girls set up an experiment featuring her. She will set off on trying out the different Zodiac signs and see if Jennifer can really tell their signs. I LOVED this story! It was intriguing and I was hooked from the beginning. I would be glad to be Izzy and test this s theory myself. I was reading along on the edge of my seat when it ended. Ok so I am dying to read the next book Hurry up Ares!! Recommendations: If you like an intriguing storyline, great girlfriends, Zodia signs, masturbation and amazing possibilities this one is for you.
For a short novella it was actually very interesting. I'm honesty not quite sure what i feel about this novella. Its well worded, well written. It has a tinge of excitement to it. The characters are great. The story line is erotic yet playful. Its a definite 5 star. I believe i just wanted to read more find out what the outcome is. I am guessing that's the next short story. so really the only issue i have, it just ends, but that's the authors point here, to leave you wondering , waiting, on the edge of your seat kind of read. I was given this book for a honest review. you can find another review on this at my blog. http:// thereaderhaven.wordpress.com and other reviews on books I've read if your lookin for a read or would like to give your own opinion.
This is a nice short read that sets up the beginning of this series. I like the idea of the series, it’s an interesting premise, and I will look for the other books.
I didn’t like how short it was, especially since it was the start of a series, plus the sex was only okay, but because it is a free read, my issues with the book weren’t as big a problem for me.
I would recommend reading this book, as the author and the series have promise. Plus, the book’s free, so it won’t cost you anything to give it a try.
This is more of a short introduction to the series then an actual book but I enjoyed it none the less. The writing is good so far and the characters are believable enough. The premise of Izzy finding a guy from each astrological sign is a fun idea, and it's peaked my interest enough that I might look into the next book.
This was an interesting chapter and it sets up nicely the ‘Astrology Experiment’ that these ladies are putting together for their friend Izzy. I think I’ll give Ares Unleashed a try. Beautiful cover.
