3.5/5 I purchased this book over a decade ago during my undergraduate studies and felt it was time for a reread. I was surprised to see just how much of it is still highly relevant to teachers and school leaders today! Tony Humprheys offers some key insights into common difficulties in schools and suggests practical ways to address these as teachers and school leaders. I thought the emphasis on building self esteem among school staff and pupils alike was particularly valuable as was the idea that all behaviour is 'right', even if it is not deemed appropriate or socially acceptable, because it expresses some sort of unmet need in the person. I will definitely keep these in mind whenever I encounter a difficult situation with a colleague, student or parent in future. A worthwhile read for NQTs and established teachers, principals and aspiring school leaders, or anyone who works with young people in some capacity, this book contains nuggets of ageless wisdom that we would all do well to remind ourselves of from time to time.
