Spot shows off his knowledge of shapes in this bright, bold board book. Each spread illustrates objects young children will love to identify, along with a different touchy-feely element to engage tactile interaction. These are the perfect way for little ones to learn their concepts while following their favorite yellow puppy.
Eric Gordon Hill OBE was a popular author and illustrator of children's picture books, best known for his character Spot the Dog. His works have been widely praised for their contributions to child literacy. He was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2008 New Year Honours.
This book combines the textures of the 'That's Not My...' series with the beloved characters from Spot. Therefore, it was a great hit with my daughter.
This book follows Spot the Puppy as he explores shapes. It is an incredbily simple narrative with few words per page, in clear, large text. The edition I reviewed had touch and feel elements, which encouraged the reader to feel the shape and experience it with their fingertips. It was, for the most part, a setup that would be easy to clean, and in rich, generally primary colors that appealed to my son.
I could see using this book from pre-k to 1st grade. The limited words per page and the tactile associations help with building associations for those still learning about the mechanics of text.
