Ashley Appleton is the newest member of East high’s student body. When giving a tour of the facility to Ms. Appleton, Mr. Matsui spots Gabriella and suggests she guide her through the school being Gabriella had been “the new girl” eight times within the last 11 years beating Ashley’s five. Ashley seems to be nice, but shows an odd admiration for Sharpay. No one seems to notice anything fishy about Ashley except for Troy, captain of the basketball team, who sprains his ankle before a big game. He eventually turns into a bossy sideline coach which annoys his teammates. Later, they win the game, and before the big birthday party they apologize to each other. Troy tries to warn Gabriella that Ashley is only using her to get close to Sharpay, but she doesn’t listen. When Ashley is invited to Sharpay and Ryan Evan’s birthday bash (which turns out to be a huge fake when everyone discovers a big singer really isn’t performing live they are just tuning in to her concert) on her account she still doesn’t realize it. Troy overhears Ashley speaking rudely of Gabriella to Sharpay, but when Gabriella apologizes to him for snapping at him for accusing Ashley of using her he decides it’s better he not tell her and shows he appreciates her for showing Ashley around.

I love reading more about the characters from my favorite Disney Channel Original Movie; High School Musical! Both the character work and vivid sensory detail create great imagery making the story very clear. The credibility of the piece makes it even more appealing and lets me relate to situations in the novel. It kept my attention the whole way through to the point where I never stopped reading it.

A fun story from the High School Musical universe...but nothing terribly special. Fans of the films may enjoy it, though.

I'd loved this book because it entertains me.Because there is a new girl in town in her name is Ashley. So Gabriella wants to help her a little bit so she could know the school a little bit more .Because Gabriella has alot of experience because she changes school alot of the times. Then gabriella is like triying to know if Ashley the new girl is hanging more with Sharpey .The reason she is triying to find out is because Sharpey has always been mean to Gabriella so Gabriella wants the best for Ashley but Sharpey doesnt let her . So then sharpey plans to make a party and she only invites the people she likes and she didnt invite Gabriella .So Gabriella doesnt know they are having a party and Sharpey only invites Troy and Ashley and her friends. He invited troy because Sharpey likes troy so then Gabriella knows about the party and she is wondering if Ashley is Material or just a plain of trouble?
