Math Work Stations: Independent Learning You Can Count On, K-2

Rate this book
If you' ve ever questioned how to make math stations work, you' ll find this photo-filled, idea-packed resource invaluable. This book extends Debbie Diller' s best-selling work on literacy work stations and classroom design to the field of mathematics. In Math Work Stations you' ll find ideas to help children develop conceptual understanding and skills, use math vocabulary as they talk about their mathematical thinking, and connect big ideas to meaningful independent exploration and practice. This book details how to set up, manage, and keep math stations going throughout the year. There' s even a chapter devoted solely to organizing and using math manipulatives. Each chapter key concepts based on NCTM and state math standards; math vocabulary resources and literature links; suggested materials to include at each station for the corresponding math content strand; ideas for modeling, troubleshooting, differentiating, and assessment; and reflection questions for professional development.Throughout the book, Debbie has included hundreds of color photos showing math work stations in action from a variety of classrooms in which she has worked. Charts, reproducible forms, and math work stations icons are included to provide everything you' ll need to get started with stations in your classroom right away.

Teachers!!!!

Seriously - this is going to be my go-to resource this year!!! Forget everything else!

I borrowed a copy from a friend and want to buy my own, but I'd like to know if Ms. Diller will have a newer copy soon instead - this was published in 2011.

This book is incredibly resourceful. It is chock full of very simple and thoughtful ideas for teaching math in grades K-2 - specifically grade 1 - which I will be teaching for the 1st time ever. (I'd like to point out 23 years of teaching - age 48 - 1st year in 1st grade...I NEEDED this book!!!)

Anyway - new to math? Needing some ideas to focus your math work stations? This is the book.

Debbie Diller rules!

I read this book in conjunction with a group of teacher bloggers who made awesome math stations for my students to use! Too bad they are going to take a hundred ink cartridges to print them all...

Anyway, this book helps teachers to set up independent stations for math so that teachers can meet with small math groups. While some teachers may want to do this to give their students extra practice, I kind of have to because I have to meet with first and second graders separately. So this book was perfect for me!

Debbie gives TONS of station ideas and there are even reproducible pages in the back of the book! It's spiral-bound, so it's easy to refer to for lesson planning and all that jazz.

Great book! I'm glad I read it.

The math work stations mentioned in this book very easy to implement in your primary grade classroom. What I value the most is the ability to differentiate the work stations according to abilities. I also really appreciate Diller's organization tips and her stressing the importance of modeling how to use the materials to be placed in the math work stations many of times before actually placing them into a work station.

Same format as her Literacy Workstations, Math Stations includes hands on, practical ideas for setting up, managing and extending math work stations. Not based on CC standards, but this is a great resource for teachers that have never implemented math stations or for seasoned teachers that want new ideas. Also includes templates at the back of the book.

This is an amazing resource. Even after 13 years of teaching, I found endless ideas for math work stations. Now the problem is going to be finding the time in order to implement all of the wonderful ideas.

I've got lots of ideas to implement in my class math stations. I'm optimistic that they will help me fill in my students' gaps in mathematics. I can't wait to see how things work!!! :) This book was definitely worth the read.

This book is loaded with ideas - just what I was hoping for - and it is easy to read. There are lots of actual real-time pictures to help with the descriptions. Anyone wanting to do Math Workshop would like to have this in their teacher collection.
