With more than one million books sold in her career, Joyce Rupp presents her newest a unique collection of daily meditations that draw from Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, and other sources, offering wisdom and insight about the God who is beyond all names.
Bestselling author Joyce Rupp once again proves herself a wise and gentle spiritual midwife, drawing forth 365 names of God from the world's spiritual treasury. Fragments of Your Ancient Name --whose title comes from a poem by German mystic Rainer Maria Rilke--assembles a remarkable collection of reflections for each day of the year.
This unique and profound devotional will heighten awareness of the many names by which God is known around the world. Whether drawing from the Psalms, Sufi saints, Hindu poets, Native American rituals, contemporary writers, or the Christian gospels, Rupp stirs the imagination and the heart to discover a new dimension of God. Each name is explored in a ten-line poetic meditation and is complemented by a simple sentence that serves as a reminder of the name of God throughout the day.
I used this book for a night devotional. The names for God come from many different traditions, but all reflect the unfathomable God. Inspiring. Creative.
As always Joyce Rupp is stellar. This is a daily devotional guide using a different name for God for each day and one of her lovely poems (almost always 10 lines in this book's case) for each day. What a wonderful way to expand our tiny concept of who God is.....delightful.
I have spent the past year using this as a part of my daily devotions. I found it a great book to preset God with his/her many faces. It presents the God of many names.
Excellent and eloquent daily devotional/prayer book. Rupp takes Scripture of various traditions or an author and refashions their words into a beautiful blessing based on a name for God. My spouse and I just finished reading through it the first time. Look forward to doing so again in 2018.
