Dive #1-3

The Complete Dive Trilogy, #1-3

Rate this book
This edition contains all three books in the Dive Trilogy; The Discovery, The Deep and The Danger.

The Discovery
Sharks, shipwreck, and sunken treasure in the latest adventure trilogy from Gordon Korman.

Four kids are on a marine expedition for the summer, diving to explore an underwater habitat that's just been altered by a seismic event. What they find, though, is much more than fish - it's sunken treasure. Can they salvage it without anyone else getting to it first? Will the prospect of wealth set them against one another? And what about those sharks . . . .

The Deep
What lies in the Deep? Not just coral and sand. Not just undersea creatures that have never seen the light. No, the deep holds something even more mysterious and valuable. Kaz, Dante, Adriana, and Star started the summer thinking they were going to study marine life. Now they've found sunken treasure. And they're not the only ones who want to keep it.

The Danger
In 1665, a British vessel named the Griffin sank with a priceless amount of gold on board. Now, centuries later, four kids are trying to raise the Griffin's treasure from the sea. Kaz, Dante, Adriana, and Star must take the biggest risks of their lives...and discover that they won't be able to trust anybody - even themselves.

I liked having the three books together. It was a fun mystery, although a few things seemed weird to me such as: Why did Kaz agree to a diving internship when he was deathly afraid of sharks to the point that he researched them intensively? That seemed very unrealistic. And why didn't Dante, the photographer take pictures of all of the illegal activity they encountered? Maybe the camera got smashed when he was saved from the shark by English smashing it into the shark's nose, but even so, you'd think he'd at least comment about wishing he had his camera to take pictures with after that point.
I really liked the ending *spoiler* how they found the rest of the wooden carving to English's ancestor's story and how the kids got to keep the whip handle with the emerald.
I also liked how we were filled in on the history of the ships as the story progressed.

I've decided to treat this as a single book since the individual volumes aren't self-contained.

This was a delightful read that genuinely drew me into the story and I fully didn't realize it's meant to be a children's book up until a very specific event in the third book.

This series consists of three installments: The Discovery, The Deep, and The Danger. Four teenagers are offered a summer internship as divers for a respected marine research institute in the Caribbean. Upon arrival they find the crew they are supposed to be working with want nothing to do with them, why? Why are they charting caves when that has nothing to do with the mapping they were supposedly to work on? They discover the scientists are really treasure hunters. The question becomes now what do they do? The ocean is a dangerous place? Another good series from Korman who also wrote the Island series

T H O U G H T S:

not my favorite of gordon korman's adventure trilogies. the characters were not as dimensional and charismatic as those of his everest series or island saga. the stakes were not as high; the plot was lackluster.

So I finally decided to read the Korman series and started with Dive, as it was the only one with all three titles not checked out and I could read the series in one go! Am glad I did, not because of any great writing, but becuase I can finally feel comfortable recommending it to kids - instead of just giving them the books based on others I've read and liked from Korman...helps me feel better when I have actually read all the books I recommend!

All of Gordon Korman's books are exciting and awesome. The Dive series is no exception. I liked it better than The Island trilogy, but not as much as the Everest trilogy. My Korman shelf is growing!

I loved Gordan Korman books when I was a kid; adventure, mystery, everything you could want. Plus, this series taught me everything I know about diving. :) *Some mild language throughout series

This is a great trilogy. All of the characters seem realistic and there are great plot twists added. Sometimes the writing seemed a little dull for me, but a good series all in all.
