LOOSE ENDS KILL is a fast paced mystery/thriller that takes place in the historic city of San Antonio, Texas, and throws Jim West into the middle of a police investigation of the murder of an old friend's wife. The police already believe they have the killer - West's friend. In this new novel, Jim West comes to the rescue of an old friend suspected of killing his own wife. West rolls up his sleeves and begins to dig deep-perhaps too deeply-as someone begins to follow and target him. It's not long before West discovers that he didn't know his friend's wife as well as he thought. Everyone but West and his friend knew that she had many affairs. Any of her lovers could have had a motive to kill her. As he investigates one lover after the other, West ignites an outbreak of more deaths and mayhem. The killer wants him dead. His friend's lawyer wants him to go back home, and the police threaten to arrest him. Feeling the pressure to solve the murder quickly West sets a trap for the killer-using himself as bait. However, he soon learns he may have only outsmarted himself. Doerr enters the mind of a policeman and a criminal with equal skill and precision in his latest mystery/thriller Loose Ends Kill . His tale is fascinating, using the realism of a southwestern setting to its fullest. -- Darden North, award-winning author of mystery novels and medical thrillers "Doerr does it again! Loose Ends Kill is another fantastic Jim West novel. His personal experiences in law enforcement have shaped another gritty murder mystery that keeps you turning pages...from cover to cover...until you reach the exciting end!" -- Mike Angley, author of Child Finder and Child Finder Redemption "Loose Ends Kill is a great read! Reminds me of a Mickey Spillane effort and Jim West could be the next Mike Hammer. Definitely a great book for all the armchair crime fighters out there. Loose Ends Kill is a keeper! Jim West is going to be busy! You'll see him again - I look forward to his next book. This is "Real-Life Stuff" and Bob Doerr's been there!" -- J. I won this book on the GR book giveaway, and received my copy 9th March, 2011. Can't wait to read it now!!!
Read this book in a couple of sittings...loved it!! Bob Doerr certainly knows how to weave a tale of intrigue, murder, mystery and mayhem! Jim West's old friend from his military days, Randy LaMoe, gets in contact through his lawyers..he needs Jim to go to San Antonio immediately to help him out of a jam. Nothing more would be said to Jim over the phone. When he arrived, he found himself in more trouble than he dreamt he could be!
Now I have read this 3rd Jim West tale, I'm going to have to find the first two....very addictive!
Once in awhile, a person needs a mystery/action book with some local flavor. Loose Ends Kill served me in that capacity.
Bob Doerr's bio is interesting, as he worked in some top secret job in the military. The main character in the book, Jim West, is a retired OSI agent, and the story takes place in San Antonio. My current city of residence, San Angelo, was even mentioned in the first chapter. It was fun to recognize actual places along the River Walk.
The book is fairly well-written and exciting. It's fiction, not real life, so some of the implausible events only adds to the entertainment value.
A fun read, and I'll probably check out some of the others he has written.
This novel starts out a bit slow, but quickly moves into an engaging whodonit, with plenty of action and intrigue. This was my first experience with Doerr's work, and I definitely want to read more!
