Experts believe that the creators of filet lace—which is among the oldest forms of lace making—drew their inspiration from the rough mesh of fishing nets. Today, beginner and intermediate lace makers can draw their own stimulation from the rich history and detailed instructions for the 23 do-at-home projects presented here. It begins with an overview of the evolution of filet stitching techniques from the basic linen stitch to the Filet Richelieu and Asian Guipure styles.
