Stan and Jan Berenstain (often called The Berenstains) were American writers and illustrators best known for creating the children's book series the Berenstain Bears. Their son Mike Berenstain joined them as a creative team in the late 1980s.
I usually don't review kids' books, but this one is a larger collection of some of the beginner books from Berenstain Bears, and my son and I have read them almost every night for the past year. They're simple, funny, and have, most of all, been thoroughly enjoyed by him. Stan the Man somehow wrote books that are truly timeless, so these are worth getting.
We read this every night throughout September and all of the rhymes worked for my little girl. She would laugh and clap as I made sure to put a little "music" with the words.
The stories were entertaining and the rhymes help you figure out how to pronounce the words. Each turn of the page brought a new disaster for Papa Bear.

We saw this on sale the other day and were taken back to a piece of our childhood. We justified buying it as a good piece for our future kids' collection but in all honesty, we were excited to read it ourselves. Ah, the good ol' Berenstain Bears!
My four year old received this book for Christmas. And ever since this has been a bedtime favorite. My son likes to read these over and over again. This book holds (6 stories) each story is short and cute rhymes. My son's favorites are; Bears in the Night and the Spooky Old Tree. I would recommend this.
I used to love the Berenstain Bears when I was little and this has a lot of the stories in simple words so that kids can easily read them. I could use these as read alouds in my class and also have it for the kids to practice reading stories.
My 2 year old son Gannicus is pretty darn particular about what books he'll let us read to him at bed time, and there's always several rounds of both Spooky Old Tree and Bears In The Night before he'll fall asleep. He'll let me read about half of The Missing Dinosaur Bone before wanting to go back to the scary Halloween themed ones, but doesn't care for the other stories at all, which is shame, because The Bears' Picnic is probably the funniest one for adults. At this point, I don't even need the book anymore and could read this whole thing to you back to front (or even backwards if you wanted) from memory.
I got this for my 6 year old Berenstain Bear lover. I was a lover when I was her age. The moment she received this books she said "Mama, the bears look so funny!" It turns out that the first few books in this book are what I believe to be the first Berenstain Bear books from the 1960's. The bears do look very different from what we all know and love but they start looking more familiar towards the end of the book. My personal favorite from this is The Bears' Vacation. I had this book when i was a child and must have read it a thousand times. I remember the details so much from the pictures, it brings a tear to my eye!
"He Bear, She Bear" and "The Bear Scouts" compelled me the greatest. I don't think "He Bear, She Bear" would be popular with many modern-thinking parents of the 21st century. Yet, as someone who sees the sexes as male or female, this story appeals to me. " The Bear Scouts" demonstrates the foolishness of people who feel they don't need to be counseled and the glory of being saved by guardian angels. His mercy endures forever!
Berenstain Bear books were a favorite of mine when I was young and I love that I can share them with my children. This Big Book has six stories, a couple of which were my favorite as a child. The artwork is classic and so is the rhyming. And some of the more verbose stories are excellent for children that are transitioning from children's books to short chapters.
My 4yo loves the Berenstain Bear books, and it pretty much all started when we got this book as a 3rd birthday present. We’ve maybe hit our limit, but our kiddo still can’t get enough.
My favorite takeaway is when the kiddo recited part of the bears vacation as we set out on a summer road-trip. “Hooray, hooray! We’re on our way! Summer vacation starts today.”
I had fun reading these vintage stories with Spence. The illustrations are fun and the rhyming story lines are entertaining. Spencer is at the wonderful Age where these stories and reading time is fully magical.
I did not like "Bears in the Night" because I do not like owls. I enjoyed "The Bears' Picnic" because I like picnics and apples. I did not like "Spooky Old Tree" because I do not like crocodiles. I enjoyed "The Bears' Vacation" because I like vacations and the beach. I enjoyed "The Bike Lesson" because I like to ride my bike. I did not like "The Missing dinosaur Bone" because I do not like dinosaurs.
