Weldon #2

Smooth Irish

Rate this book
Four years ago a tragedy made Jackson Weldon turn his back on life. He wanted nothing more than doing a gig with his guitar every now and then to put a sandwich on his plate and gas in his tank. But a few dates with Nan Miller several months ago had him finally wanting something more. Her in his bed. Only she walked before that happened and his hunger for her alone has grown until he can't think of anything but her.Nan has lived her life by a plan and she isn't about to mess it up by getting involved with a man going nowhere. That's why she walked out on Jackson, seventy one days ago. Only, she can't get him out of her mind or escape him in her dreams, night or day. So when he comes riding in on his Harley again, she wonders if she should take him up on his offer for an uninhibited weekend. But their no strings ride leads them both to an end that changes everything they ever believed they wanted or deserved out of briefly illuminated the strong curve of his stubble-rough jaw, devilish smile, and raven's wing hair whipping in the wind. Damn, the man had no right to look so sexy in the middle of hell. He stripped off his black leather jacket, pushed her umbrella aside, and leaned in close.“You bait a nice hook, sugar.”“You. You Peeping Tom!” Her search for something sophisticated and deadly to say fizzled as ridiculous.“Careful. You're giving me ideas for a new profession.”She didn't have a chance to reply before his leather jacket descended over her head and his strong arm encircled her.“Tell me how sorry I am later, sugar.” He plucked the inverted umbrella from her, popped it back right, and held it before them as he propelled them toward the back door of the yacht club, not the least daunted by the storm's fury. But then, Nan didn't think much got past Jackson's thick wall. She gritted her teeth, irritated. Both the timing of Jackson's appearance and the man were too welcome for her peace of mind. She tingled from the heat of his arm about her, the feel of his lean, hard body next to her, and the tangy scent of musk and leather enveloping her.“Here we go.” He hustled her into a lit hallway.Anxious to rid herself of his scent, she slid his coat off. Cool air assaulted, making her too aware of the heat from his body behind her, touching her, like he'd said on the phone. Can't you feel me? I'm right up against you. Feel the heat? My hands on you…my mouth. She shivered. The creamy watered silk walls, crown molding, and plush carpet contrasted sharply with her soggy, bedraggled state and she turned to face him, feeling like a swamp rat. He'd moved closer and her chest landed smack up against his hot, very male body.“Where are we?” Drawing back, she teetered, dropping his coat. “Backstage of the ballroom and just where we need to be." He grinned and settled his hands on her hips. When he spoke, his deep voice rumbled right to her core and set off a series of delicious quakes. "It's been a while, sugar. A long while. You hung up too soon last week. We didnt get to the good part.”Nan tried to stop the quakes of desire from spreading by clenching her stomach muscles. It didn't help. Jackson let his shoulders rest on the door behind him and drew her between his jeans-clad, booted legs. She didn't have to look to know how his jeans fit or how his leather boots gleamed. Not a thing about his dark Irish looks and southern bad boy manners had changed.“Yes, a long while,” she whispered past the lump in her throat.

This bewitching Georgia Peach is anything but ordinary. She’s a mother, nurse, thriller writer, award-winning paranormal/romance/contemporary author, passionate patriot, event planner and more! She’s also home schooled three children and is the Vice-President of a charitable foundation which helps women and children’s causes and in her spare time she writes screenplays!

J.L. in her own words:

Under a barrage of nagging by BFF’s, I’ve been told my bio was boring, not at all a reflection of just who I am beneath the surface, which is a compliment…I think. So, I promised to rev it up a bit. Thus the reason why I’m sitting here staring at the computer screen with nothing but crickets in my brain. I’m totally into making up wild and interesting stories with a lot of heart thrown into the mix, but telling people about myself isn’t so easy. What can I tell you about me?

I don’t play video games or watch horror because I can’t take the heat, but give me a kickass thriller every minute of every day and I am there. Be prepared for a Hoover Dam meltdown if you’re with me and the movie is sad. So, to avoid disaster, I love romantic comedies.

Never coffee. Always tea. Never beer. Always champagne. There’s more, but hey, gotta save some secrets until after the first date, right?

I grew up in Miami. Went to nursing school in Georgia, where I now reside. I raised and home schooled three great kids. I wrote for nine years before I sold a book, which made me a firm believer that a person should NEVER NEVER NEVER GIVE UP ON THEIR DREAMS.

I remember my father’s remark after a particularly scandalous story about one of my ancestors, a story that involves a conspiracy, treason, betrayal, murder, and execution, a story that after a drink or two in the bar, I might be enticed to share. Anyway, what my father said was, “You can’t keep a good man down.” And I kind of see that in myself. Not that I am necessarily good, because the definitions of moral words are often relative, but I do persevere, and I am resilient. Nothing in life has ever worked out the way I planned for it too. In many areas of my life, I have yet to reach the level I thought I would, of where I envisioned I would be, but I haven’t given up. I won’t give up. I continue to work hard and do everything I can to help who I can and to make my dreams come true.

Besides great kids, family, and friends, that perseverance has so far garnered me a USA Today Bestselling tag and twelve plus books on the shelf in a number of genres (contemporary romantic suspense, historical suspense, paranormal suspense, and contemporary romance). I’ve won a number of writing awards, two National Choice Awards, three Maggie Awards, a RT Book Club Reviewer’s Choice Award, the Daphne du Maurier Award, the Marlene Award, and the Golden Heart Award to name most of them. I work with several amazing women in a charity to raise money for a shelter that helps abused and homeless women and children. I’ve revived my nursing career after a long hiatus, have renewed my license, and will find the right job for me.

I know there are many more great things ahead.

I write romance because I believe that when you boil all of life down to its essence, if you take a human being to the very core of his existence, then you will find that what matters more than anything else is to be loved and to give love.

Life is all about choices and to pull from one of Erich Fromm’s quote, I choose to create and to love rather than destroy and to hate.

I hope you enjoy my stories.

Go forth, dream, believe, create, inspire, and love,

Jenni (J.L. Saint, Jennifer St. Giles, Jennifer Saints)

Another Scrumptious Weldon! Not quite as good as the first book, but still a good read. A little slow to the start, but then it came around in the end...big time!! I loved Jackson, but Nan took some time to grow on me. She was too set in her ways, and she had this journal where she wrote down her fantasies, and of course the author had to share them with us, just not my thing. Once the two of them find their way to each other, they set the sheets on fire. Jackson is such a giver; he gives and gives and gives. He even takes Nan for a “ride” on his motorcycle and let’s her rev his throttle…vroom, vroom!! He is not without issues, and years earlier lost his wife to a tragic accident. The journey to forgive himself, move on, and his family’s involvement to bring him back to the living, is what is at the heart of this story. It drove the plot and gave the story some nice depth. Nan finally lays it on the line for Jackson, and when she does; my respect for her took a huge leap. She got a backbone and that’s when I became her friend.

The story is quite predictable, and even though you know what’s coming, it had a fairly good emotional impact. The Weldon family as whole has a greater role in this book and I love the family dynamic of this Irish family. Jesse and Alexi’s side-story was very sweet. I enjoyed them so much in the first book and I was happy to see where life had taken them. I would love to see James and Jared with a book, or books of their own. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to find where the author has given any indication that the series will continue. So if you’re listening Jennifer Saints….I begging you, PLEASE, PLEASE give me some more Weldon brothers!

It is a very rare occurrence for me these days to start on the next book of a series by an author before taking a break in between. However, I found myself tempted to skip my ‘rule’ and go ahead with the 2nd book in the Weldon series, to find out for myself whether the passion between the grieving widower Jackson Weldon and Nancy Miller would be as explosive in reality as I had envisioned it in my mind after practically storming through the sensuous scenes of passion in the 1st book of the series.

35 year old Jackson is the eldest sibling of the 4 Weldon brothers in Savannah, Georgia. Jackson is a man still grieving for the untimely death of his wife Amy and blames himself for her death which prevents him from joining the living world. Jackson creates for himself a rut in which he is more than comfortable in, and lets the music that runs in his soul do the rest for him. With no aim or plans in his life to pave the way forward, Jackson stumbles into each day as it arrives until he meets his sister-in-law’s best friend Nan who makes his heart beat in anticipation for the very first time since the death of his wife.

30 year old Nan is goal-oriented if nothing else and plans her life to achieve those goals which will take her further and further away from the wanting little girl who lived and grew up in a less than stellar trailer on the backside of a country road. Dedicated to her profession as a nurse, Nan rarely gives herself time to stop and smell the roses, always focused on reaching the next step of her plan.

When Nan meets the sexy as sin older brother of Jesse Weldon, her best friend’s husband at her wedding, for the first time she finds for herself the lure of sexual attraction though she makes herself walk away from Jackson and his aimless life once she finds out that there is no future to be had with the man.

Three months since she walked out on him and the memories of the feverish kisses they shared still linger on, haunting her and teasing her to taste what she never let herself fall for during the brief time they had dated. With her dreams and fantasies escalating out of control each passing day, Nan finds herself saying yes to one weekend of decadent pleasure in the arms of the one man who has the ability to turn her mind to mush and makes her body hum in pleasure.

But when reality comes knocking at the door, Nan is once again forced to face the fact that Jackson with his past haunting him is not the man for her though she may have fallen head over heels in love with him. Its up to both Jackson and Nan to want each other and love one another enough to move past beyond the shackles of the past and to face the future that would be the stuff fantasies and dreams are made of if they were to face it together.

I have to say that being still on the high left over from Jesse and Alexia’s story, I felt a tad disappointed with how Smooth Irish unfolded though this one also made a favorable impression on me. Jackson and Nan were both endearing characters whose passion for each other draws them together, no matter how much Nan tries to prevent herself from walking into disaster with both eyes open.

Jackson is a tortured hero, who hides a wealth of pain and guilt behind a facade of charm that refuses to be hidden from Nan who makes short work of opening up his wounds that have continued to fester rather than heal during the 4 years Jackson has tried to forget the pain with which he lives.

For me, the passion between Nan and Jackson wasn’t as explosive as I hoped it would be, but still Jennifer Saints has added mouth watering scenes of passion that brings out her talent in delivering the readers with sensuous scenes of love that would remain with them for a long time.

Its good to know that though this is the last published book in the Weldon Series for now, Jennifer plans on making additions to it which would be well received by its fans.

Smooth Irish is a book that goes down like a tall, cool glass of water on a sweltering hot day and leaves you begging for more!

Recommended for those who have read book 1 and are dying to get their hands on book 2; for those who love stories with tortured grieving widowed heroes and for those who are fans of Jennifer Saints who writes under the pseudonyms J.L. Saint and Jennifer St. Giles.

This was a decent book about the eldest Weldon brother who has kind of been drifting ever since he came back four years ago after the death of his wife and he has been pursuing Nan(Alexi's best friend, the heroine from the first book) but Nan knows he is not the man she is looking for, no commitment type, she's a nurse and is goal and list oriented but there is this pesky chemistry between them.

Slowly, we find out that the hero Jackson walked away from being a doctor after his wife died and there are enough hints given though no-one knew it his wife was pregnant, he feels responsible hence he has closed himself off from his family. Nan refuses to put up with it, she saw guilt destroy her father and her mother as well.

He of course wises up.

Another fun and delightful addition to the Weldon Bros. series. But those Irish guys better watch out -- because Shakespeare, the cat is stealing plenty of scenes in this one. The storyline in book 2 had a sadder and more emotional touch to it than the first. Still plenty of hot chemistry and a wonderful happily-ever-after. Looking forward to future entries for the twin Weldons.

Jackson is great! He's a hot singing (Eric Clapton like) black Irish man, who is lost & refuses to settle after he loses his wife & unborn baby in a car accident 4 years prior that he blames himself for.

Nan is a nurse, who has her life & goals planned out. This to me makes her seem cold & frigid even though the author is going for a warm caregiver type. She has a short story book of fantasies she writes & keeps under her pillow.

Since Nan is Alexi's (Jackson's sister-in-law) best friend, she is invited to the family events/parties. She is trying to avoid Jackson since she left him in a bar months prior. He had no life plan & was singing in a band. He refused to be signed, so she left...

It is hinted at BOLDLY & if you don't guess... You're skipping paragraphs & it does tell you for sure pretty close to 40% through that... It's highly predictable & not really a spoiler, but some odd person out there might think that... Oh well!

The story was good, I just wish Nan came across softer. I didn't really like her or her nsme. They both seemed hard.

Note: I did not read book #1, I was able to read this book without feeling like I was missing information from the preceding book.

"This was the way things were meant to be between a man and a woman, the passion, the pleasure, the exposure of their vulnerable selves and the acceptance of each other's flaws and humanity"

This one was a good romance. I enjoyed the banter between Nan and Jackson. I greatly appreciated that Nan was not a "take what I can get" kind of woman. She knew what she wanted out of life & her life partner and would accept nothing less. She did not crumble to her knee's when Jackson realized how much he wanted her, he had to truly prove himself.

Nancy and Jackson have different viewpoints on how to be successful in life, but they work well!

Sparks fly when Jackson and Nan get close. His history remains hidden while hers keeps her focused. The family he has could save them both if they don't implode before they have a chance at love. Great characters and storyline!

Didn’t live up to book one

All this couple seemed to have interest in together was sex. I didn’t quite understand falling in love. They both irritated me. They had little in common and resolved what they agonized over through 80%+ of the book very quickly. Hoping book 3 is better

What a difference a sequel makes! I read the first book in the Weldon Series, "Wild Irish" and really didn't care for it that much. I'm far from being a prude so it wasn't the erotic content that colored my opinion. The plot was so flimsy that a forceful exhale would have knocked it to the ground. I felt like author Jennifer Saints regurgitated every erotic scene she had ever imagined in her lifetime and then called it a book. It took me months to work up the enthusiasm to read the second book in the series "Smooth Irish" and boy, am I glad I did.

"Smooth Irish" is the story of Jackson Weldon and Nan Miller, the older brother and best friend of "Wild Irish's" hero and heroine Jesse and Alexi respectively. It's not necessary to read "Wild Irish" in order to understand what happens in "Smooth Irish." This book stands on its own quite well.

Unlike "Wild Irish," Ms. Saints builds the sexual tension between Jackson and Nan rather than have them succumb early and mate like rabbits for the rest of the book. Jackson's and Nan's personalities and lives are polar opposites. Jackson is content to drift through life without a plan or commitments. Nan feels her life is wasted unless she's striving to achieve a goal. Nan has even made a list of the requirements for the perfect man and Jackson doesn't fit the bill except for the intense sexual attraction she feels towards him.

Nan and Jackson dated for a short period of time after they met at Jesse and Alexi's wedding. Although Nan broke things off when it became clear Jackson was only interested in a sexual relationship, she can't stop thinking about him. She's reluctant to act on the attraction and exorcises her sexual demons by keeping a diary of the fantasies she has involving Jackson. The diary entries are "bodice rippers," but entertaining nonetheless. Jackson's reaction upon discovering the book of fantasies was delightful in many ways. He has the reaction one would expect from a guy, but he also praises Nan for how well written and emotionally engaging they are.

What I enjoyed most about this book was watching Nan and Jackson evolve as individuals and as a couple. Nan learned to become more laid back and Jackson realized structure and order hold a certain appeal.

Overall, I heartily recommend "Smooth Irish." I'm so glad I gave this author another try.

Throwing you straight into the meat of the story Smooth Irish is a fast paced read that should have you glued to your book or e-reader for some time. If you haven't picked up the first book in the Weldon series, Wild Irish by Jennifer Saints, you'll still be able to understand the second book. Smooth Irish involves intense attraction and a country setting, and Irish men that set your blood a tingling.

Jackson Weston, the oldest of the Weston boys, only has one thing in his life that could possibly make him want to forget his past, a women. That women is Nan (Nancy) Miller, and she holds the heart of this smooth talking, ill planning, Irish man. Nan hard working and award winning nurse, has been counting the days since Jackson and her relationship ended seventy one days ago. She doesn't want to keep count of the days, but something is holding her back from moving on. And when Jackson gives her an opportunity to move on, it might just be her chance to force this man out of her dreams. But when things spiral out of her controlled plans, Nan is forced to confront Jackson and help him cope with his past.

Between the first of the Weldon's babies being born, and the rest of the clan moving up in the world it's no surprise that by the end of Smooth Irish these boys capture your heart. The Weldon series also includes, Hard Irish, the third Weldon of the brothers books, and the series should also include one other book as well.

Finally!!!!! More of a story line. Finally a little change in things!! We meet Jackson and Nan in this book and Jackson is a man who knows what he wants but his past is holding him back from getting it and I guess the has a pretty good reason. Jackson is a riddle wrapped up in a rubix’s cube. But when he flat out turns down wanting a one nighter and tells Nan he wants more than that…I was sold! Finally I read a romance novel that has a story line, and that has a seriously emotional background story that prevents them from being together.
Good:
Nan: although quiet and emotional Nan wants more yes, but not just love she wants her dreams. And she’s a writer. I love what she writes.
Jackson: So messed up, so damaged. So hot. I love how he knows what he wants
Bad:
I’m not 100% sure. I found some things just awkward writing.
Overall (Writing style, story line, and general):
Overall I love this story line more than Wild Irish. Jesse and Alexi do make a come back in this novel but of course that is how its meant to be. But I finally got a man who although wanted to commit just couldn’t, but knew that he wanted more. However, there were some awkward parts with regards to the writing, but then there were also some awesome parts.

I down loaded this book as a promotional gift from Amazon in February 2013.

Book 2 in the series and if I could give it 10 out of 10 I would have. This book touched the heart on all the right levels. Excitement, danger, romance, and heated passion combined with a good plot made this a very enjoyable read. The author wrote it with compassion as you learn more about Nan and Jackson. I thought Jesse was a great guy but Jackson beat him for sure.
His struggles to lay the past aside was heartfelt and touching. Playing the guitar and sing, in my book a win receipt for any romantic hunk. Love the song Tears of Heaven and the way the author brought it into the plot gave you greater insight and understanding the depth of his hurt.
I loved that the Weldon family still play such an important role through out the book especially how she kept Jesse and Alexi's story in the mix, to learn that their love has come to the ultimate fulfillment.
The storm and weather leading to many of the entertaining scenes as the two main characters came together. Learning to trust, love and hope once again.
At the end, an excellent read.

Great story, loving the series so far.

Love these Irish boys. So far, of book 1 and 2, book 2 is my favorite. I have the boxed set and can not wait to get going on book 3. I found this author in the Heroes to Swoon For boxed set and had to go and buy the rest of this series, cause I liked book 1 so well.

One thing though that threw me off is when these books changed pov in the middle of the chapter without any notice (spacing difference, notation, nothing) Both book 1 and 2 so far have done that. It caused me to pause in the reading, forcing me to go back to make sure I didn't miss anything. Changing pov's is fine but not from 1 paragraph to the next. And if it's going to be done, it needs to be done in a way to make it easier for the reader to transition.

All in all thought, the storyline was great and characters were easy to love.

Would I recommend this book? Yes

Would I read more from this author? Yep...bought the set to prove it!

Nan is a planner. She's never late, is devoted to her plants and her cat, Shakespeare, and is an overachiever. She is also 30 years old.

Jackson is a free spirit who has a dark, painful past that no one talks about. He does what he wants, when he wants with no expectations and no strings attached. He likes it that way.

Nan and Jackson dated briefly, but it never really took off. When Jackson tore up a recording contract in front of her on their last date, that was it. She could never fall for someone who only lived for today. She needed a future. Jackson was not part of that.

Until the Barbeque...

So, so much would I have to write in order to do this book justice. There is a lot of emotion and sex in this one. I just can't spoil it, so...I won't. Read this! You won't be disappointed.

Lots of sex so...mature readers only.

Everyone's got baggage. It's nice to see a romance that deals with it head on. I adore the Weldon brothers--there's something awfully satisfying about being a voyeur into a great family dynamic. My favorite part of the book just might be where one brother helps another brother to really understand and own that he wants to live. Not just exist or even give up.

The love story is pretty realistic. I do think the author took a few short cuts that might have made the story just a little more well-rounded (like they had already dated and broken up). And there's no way they dated for two months and didn't have sex!

Overall a good read. Again, the quality of the writing itself is fantastic. The exploration and development of the characters w great, especially Jackson. And I didn't feel likew there was any forced event or climax. All in all great. Definitely a must read

Out of the 3 books so far in this series, this one was my favorite. How a lonely, heartbroken man can fall for a equally lonely, but upbeat girl is a classic story, but throw in the heat, and we are cooking. Jackson, oldest Weldon falls for Nan, Alexi's best friend at her wedding (read book 1 Wild Irish) and they hit it off, but because Jackson is apparently going nowhere, as is he isn't ambitious, and Nan has a "plan" of what her life should be life. So the idea that opposites attract is very accurate, until you start seeing the Jackson isn't always what he seems, and that is something Nan has to discover. Its an interesting ride.

I got this ebook for free and had never read any of Jennifer's books. I have to say I really enjoyed this book. Jackson is the bad boy that every woman loves and Nan is the straight laced gal that thinks you have to have a plan for everything. They dated and then she decided she didn't think he was for her and then they hooked back up and he showed her how to have some fun. I love all of the Irish family dynamics and the brothers who have each others back. Looking forward to reading the other Weldon Brothers books. I recommend this book.

This book was AMAZING! How 'bout I cried the whole last half of the book! There are really no words to describe how great this book was to me. Jackson went through so much pain & had to learn to live with it. I'm glad he was able to find love w/ Nan! They were an awesome couple.

The whole black book thing was kind of weird though.

The Weldon family of men are so awesome & I love their mom too! Jesse is still my favorite though :) I can't wait to read about Jared & James :) I'm glad I started reading the Weldon series!

The ghost of his e-wife

plus

The truth. All excuses aside, he'd deliberately gone after Nan, seduced her past her sensibilities, and the first bump in the road he hit, he walked out on her. (His own thoughts)

plus

and you have a douche.

I did not see any redeeming qualities in his guy. And worse yet the heroine went from a strong character to an incredibly insecure one.

Loved the way the author contrasted her characters. Nan, her heroine, and Jackson, the hero, weren't going in the same direction in their lives and this creates a lot of conflict. She'd set a direct course towards success, and he just spun in circles. But the man was strictly hero material so what's a girl to do? Great read for that day when you need a good book.

I approached this book with fear and trembling after reading the thoroughly horrible Wild Irish Ride. However, it isn't quite as bad as that one since the characters were somewhat better developed. However, this one is still pretty awful. Don't look for anything fresh, original, or entertaining here, just one overdone romance novel cliche after another. Glad to clear this one off my Kindle.

Wild! Irish! Southern! What's not to like?

Cleverly written and with just enough angst, this story of a tormented man and the love he finally allowed himself was very enjoyable. It wrenched my heart a little, humored me a lot and gave me a heap of good feelings. The sex scenes weren't bad either!

Well, I finished it. But it was hard to keep my attention focused on the story. Kind of bland, and I would bet anything, that it was written in the late 80's. The dialogue felt awkward, and, well, I don't want to be discouraging so I will just say: "This book wasn't for me". I don't think I will read this author again.

Another sexy light read, just perfect for summer.
Jackson might just be even sexier than Jesse and what woman doesn't love a damaged man?!?!
Smooth Irish is the perfect mix of romance, sex, and angst.
Loved it!

Jack is tortured, and Nan is in need of stability! I love these Weldon brothers!!!! Jack has a hard past, and walked away from everything he thought he was supposed to be and lives in his guilt. Nan has never had anything of consequence that she didn't build for herself!! Well done!

really enjoyed this one, thought the relationships were much more realistic than the first in the series.
