Hands down, the greatest theology on suffering I have ever read. God is God in the darkness as well as the light. A must-read. Highly recommended.
Favorite quotes: "Changes in circumstances are subject to God's choice, not mine."
"When all is said and done, the night shift is about God. It is God who allows any possible pit, permits affliction to come our way, and finally, determines when, where, why, and how to deliver us. Whether or not God ordains or permits all suffering, we know that He sovereignly uses it."
Good truths and good perspectives on the necessity of suffering and the pattern of how God uses it in our lives. I found particularly helpful the section of “the cry” and that complaining to God is an acceptable part of our worship and process. It’s helpful to remember and fully accept the sovereignty of God in each season.
This is a good book especially for someone who is experiencing a difficult time in his or her life. Some great scriptural examples and encouragement as well as lessons that the author learned in his "night shift" experience.
One of the most helpful and human books I have read regarding passages in life when circumstances don't match up with human expectations and desires. A beautiful parable of divine perspective in the lives of those working the "night shift" in God's vineyard.
