Taming Your Inner Brat: A Guide For Transforming Self-Defeating Behavior

Rate this book
"Why did I say that?" "I can’t believe I ate all that!" "What was I thinking?" Every one of us has said or done something that we later regret, even though we know better. And we’re likely to do it over and over again. There are specific reasons why we repeat such patterns, reasons embodied in a concept called the "inner brat." Not a psychiatric diagnosis, this inner brat nevertheless gets us into trouble. Taming Your Inner Brat explores the inner brat in all of us, explaining its psychological roots in early childhood and why bratty thoughts, feelings, and behaviors persist. It also addresses social and cultural conditions that encourage the self-centeredness and sense of entitlement upon which the inner brat thrives. Learn to recognize the inner brat and acquire specific strategies and skills, based on the latest research from experts in the field, to bring it under control. This book is about personal responsibility. We are not victims of our own impulses, addictions, or bad memories. No longer can we say, "The devil made me do it," or, "It’s my parents’ fault." Dr. Wallin shows us how to view ourselves objectively to bring problems into manageable perspective and make changes that last.

This book really opens your eyes & makes you realize so many things about yourself & your interaction w/ others. Behavior is a huge thing that makes up ones personality so there's much to learn from this book. Playing games, being passive-aggressive, silent treatment, etc. are all different things most people use or do when annoyed/aggravated/etc. It really makes you wonder what it is deep down inside that makes one react to things & how your buttons get pushed for specific things. I would totally recommend this for people to check out, you may learn something about other people but more importantly yourself. World revolves around ME!

Cuốn sách ý nghĩa nhất mà tôi đọc năm 2022. TÊN TIẾNG VIỆT CỦA CUỐN SÁCH NÀY LÀ "KIỂM SOÁT ĐỨA TRẺ HƯ TRONG BẠN" việc sd cụm từ đứa trẻ hư bên trong bạn để nói về sự kiểm soát bản thân mk (kỉ luật), ví dụ rất dễ hiểu. Sách rất dễ đọc và có ý nghĩa. Tôi đã học đc cách đánh bay trì hoãn, tập thở đều, cách kiểm soát cơn tức giận và hành vi nghiện của bản thân. Cảm ơn tác giả (bác sĩ tâm lý) đã viết nên cuốn sách này

This book started out strong but I found that it got repetitious as it went on and the second half wasn't as helpful as I had hoped.
