Nurture (verb): 1. To give tender care and protection. 2. To encourage to grow, develop, thrive, and be successful. This beautifully describes what God's daughters so desperately need. In this heartfelt work, Lisa explains how women of all ages must awaken and restore their capacity to give and receive nurture. The need for this indelible force is far more urgent than we know. Is it possible we are too busy surviving to assure that the vulnerable among us thrive? Are we too guarded, wounded, and afraid to open our lives to the nurture of others? What can be done to reestablish this language of the feminine heart? It is time women are healed and empowered. If you have never experienced nurture, this is your season. Lisa's stirring message shows you how to make these vital heart connections. We need each other's comfort and assurance as we define ourselves, find our voice, and begin to fulfill God's purpose on Earth. In Lisa's own "There is such a resonance in my spirit . . . this is in fact our season to grow, develop, and thrive. Heaven is passionately and purposefully reconnecting with our wounded, war-torn earth and the people who inhabit her. In this season I believe the daughters of God will prove integral agents. Nurture is not expensive-it is expansive. The life of everyone enlarges when it is added. As this happens, we will cease to merely function-we will indeed flourish."

I would recommend this for all women. The book does a great job of talking to women at all age levels and calling us to Biblical standards of nurturing each other.
This book gives an account on the ways to be nurturing. Not just as a parent, but also as a friend, colleague or as a mentor. It uses many biblical quotes and so is aimed at Christians. There are many anecdotal stories by the author. The first half I found long and difficult to focus on. It gives background into what nurture is and how it can be used in context. This section also has the most anecdotes. I didn't enjoy this part and it's unfair to say it wasn't well written it just didn't meet my needs at the time. The second half goes into more detail on how to be more nurturing and although I found it a long read I found this half easier to focus on. Altogether, I personally did not enjoy the read and it took a while to get through despite usually being a fast reader. It was not what I expected but I pushed through and read it all.
This was one of the first books by Lisa Bevere that I ever read, and some fifteen years on, its message and themes have stuck with me. It's a beautiful exploration of why the generations need one another and how we can each come alongside to mother and 'nurture' others in some way.
Really loved this book. The chapter on Mary and Elizabeth was great! Actually they were all great! I was afraid at first that this book was going in the direction of male bashing but it didn’t! And who better to write that part of women and men looking at the world differently than a happily married mom of boys. Seriously great info in here!
I made it 28 pages, then skimmed through the rest and found no reason to continue reading. Admittedly, there could be some value in this book. But any author that insists on calling me "daughter" and "beautiful one," over and over, cannot possibly expect to be taken seriously. Also, just because an author places Bible verses throughout the book, doesn't mean what she is saying is based on Biblical principles. Chapter 4 flat out tells you that she's displeased with how sisterhood is represented in the Bible, so handily, God tells her "The chapter of the daughters is being written right now. Tell My daughters to write their lives well." It's just too much.
Most of this book was simple material that probably isn't news to most people, but still a good reminder.
I really enjoyed Chapter 5 entitled "Be True"... the gist of it can be felt in the following quotes from that chapter: "Great, now you are a daughter of the light! now here is a list of rules, memorize them well." - "you have just been moved from the inward leading to outward conformity." ... " The dynamic of revealed or uncovered light happens only when we are true to ourselves and are led by our hearts, not by some list of rules."
I ran this course with our ladies life groups and what a journey! Women were released, encouraged and empowered to be who God created them to be. This book gives permission not only to be feminine, but to be uniquely individual. I love how this book values the generations and reminds us that we all matter, we all have something to offer. This book will feed your spirit and challenge you to nurture those around you.
I absolutely loved this book. It's just what I need right now. I think my female pastor realised as much when she loaned it to me! I think this author has a magnificent message for women everywhere, that we are to nurture and be nurtured, to empower others and be empowered by God. To seek out our spiritual sisters, mothers and daughters. This is the true spirit of feminism to me.
Most of the book was pretty fluffy. The last chapter really brought it home, though.
My favorite take-away: (on whether to be a mentor or a mother) Mentors tend to reproduce themselves, but mothers want more for their sons and daughters than they ever had themselves. (p. 118)
I love every book Lisa Bevere has ever written, and love hearing her speak even more. This book is basically about loving other women, learning how to nurture and be a mother, sister, daughter, grandmother and friend in the kingdom of God.
I read this book when it first came out and found it very well written. It has a powerful and empowering message for women of all generations that is much needed in our world today. I highly recommend it in fact I am going to read it again and possibly start a book study group.
Book given to women's leaders at church as a thank you.. At first, I didn't find this book to motivating, but some parts later in the book were useful to think about.
