It's an interesting book, the protagonist Alice was written in the most humanizing way possible, her exposure to political turmoil, colorism, classism, detachment from culture but yet an overbearing curiosity and fear when reconciling with her roots and ancestors. Her relationship with Edgar who's an adult was weird, triggering, uncomfortable to read about but also very much a reality in Haitian society. Overall I did enjoy this book, I just feel like it is missing something , nothing happens at the end which is fine , but I still feel like the story is missing something, maybe more depth, development, less about people in her entourage especially when it is not contributing anything to the story. Still an important book, I'd give this a second read.
